An awkward meet cute that involves a bar, a beard, a dying houseplant, and a drunk cousin is just the start of the fun in A Moment of Madness. Brooklyn Skye’s second Boston Alibi story is both hot and humorous, which made it a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Sailor is a former drug addict who has worked hard to get clean and put her life back together. As a teenager, she turned her back on her father, and now that he’s gone she’s looking for redemption by trying to make his bar a success. Sailor’s past made her a rather unique heroine and I liked and admired her for her strength and determination to make amends and be a better person. She’s a funny, caring woman who’s a bit goofy and a lot of fun to read about. When she walks into the Alibi, ready to make an offer on the bar, she’s stunned to learn that the current owner is her previous night’s one-night stand. She and Ryan hit it off from the start (even with the aforementioned pitiful plant and drunk cousin in the way), but Ryan doesn’t trust the woman who turned her back on the man who was like a father to him. Their mutual attraction (and the fact that the bar is short-staffed) means that Ryan can’t ignore her, no matter how much he may want to. Ryan is gruff, but he can also be sexy and interesting. He definitely has trust issues when it comes to Sailor, but when the two of them are on the same page they make an excellent pair, both in bed and out.

Where A Moment of Madness falters is the climax of the story. The dreaded “big misunderstanding” comes into play (a personal pet peeve which may not bother other readers) and it takes the shine off of Ryan. There was also a dropped thread, which was minor but bugged me a bit. Even with these quibbles, I thought Ryan and Sailor’s story was fun and I liked it enough that I will definitely pick up the first Boston Alibi book, A Moment of Weakness.

Laurel opened her mouth, but before she could get anything out, Micah said, “How about I show you where you’ll be sleeping,” and walked out of the kitchen, gesturing for her to follow.

 

Silently, she trailed him, her suitcase bumping along the carpeted hallway. With each step, she catalogued what she knew of him so far.

 

Right foot. Raising six-year-old alone.

 

Left foot. Has taken some precautions in keeping Shaelynn safe, but might need some help with that.

 

Right foot. His backside is really, really nice to look at.

 

Left foot. I wonder if those muscles under his back pockets feel as hard as they look—

 

“It’s only a two-bedroom apartment,” he said, suddenly coming to a stop. The movement was too fast, and by the time her brain caught up, she was already slamming into the back of him. Right against the butt she’d been staring at.

 

Oh my god.

 

He twirled fast and clamped his huge hand around the top of her arm to steady her, those brown eyes ticking from her eyes to her forehead to her ears, mouth, over her shoulder, then back to her eyes. The force of his stare triggered a nervous giggle from her lips.

 

“I’m so sorry,” she said, forcing her gaze to stay with his even though the intensity was making her a little dizzy. “I didn’t expect you to stop right there.”

 

“We’re at the end of the hallway,” he said, unamused. Right. But… She pointed to where the carpet dead ended. “I couldn’t see because of your…”

 

Butt. Not a chance she’d admit that.

 

Your entire ginormous body blocking my view. Yeah, not that either.

 

“Because of…um, you,” she said, swallowing down what she hoped was all of her embarrassment.

Brooklyn Skye’s Bone Deep is a story about a young man, Krister, who is haunted by what his father did during his job. All his family and friends have moved on with their lives or at least made changes, but unfortunately Krister can’t. In fact he’s skipping college classes, quitting his job, and moping around to get by. Krister is never been able to forgive for what happened because he can’t just switched off what his father did. It doesn’t help when all of  sudden someone keeps leaving him cryptic messages, and he knows it has to be someone that lost a loved one during his father’s train accident at work. He’s determined more than ever to figure out who it is and try to help himself and the person get closure.

In the mean time, he ends up meeting a girl that he can’t seem forget. She’s always at the train station with a poncho on waiting for the train, but she never gets on for some reason. The minute he finally has the guts to approach her, she blows him off until much later. When these two finally do decide to talk neither one will be able to resist each other. In fact both of them are helping each other, but in different ways. Cambria has no idea who Krister is and when she does find out she may never want to speak with him again.

Bone Deep is a story about two people grieving in two different ways. Krister who is dealing with what his father did, and Cambria who is trying to help her brother and getting over what happened to her mom. Bone Deep dives into the issue of telling someone you love the truth that may end up hurting them in the long run. Krister is going through that the minute he finds out who Cambria is really. Bone Deep is a typical New Adult romance book with his angst and romance, but in the mince of it, it’s the storyline that will engage readers. You’ll want to figure out who’s behind the cryptic messages and also want to know if Krister and Cambria will get some kind of peace and happiness.

Krister may have gotten on my nerves with the secret he kept from Cambria, but there is a reason why he didn’t want to tell her. He was waiting for the right time, but he did take too long. (stubborn young man) Cambria was stronger than she was willing to believe because she was trying to make amends to what happened a year ago. She was trying to be the stronger one, especially when it came to her brother. She needed to meet Krister to help her along. Krister also helped her with bucket list that she created, which was a plus.

***The best part of Bone Deep was the ending because of how everything came back together. =)

This is the first book I’ve read from Brooklyn Skye and I definitely look forward to reading more books from her very soon. I give this book 4 full moons and recommend it to readers out there that enjoy the New Adult genre.
