Book Tour Review that I am Involved with.
Echo Campaign - Taylor Brooke

ECHO Campaign
Taylor Brooke
(Isolation #2)
Published by: Limitless Publishing
Publication date: November 1st 2016
Genres: Post-Apocalyptic, Science Fiction, Young Adult

Brooklyn Harper’s worst nightmare has become her reality. She has been captured by Isolation…

Trapped in a white-walled labyrinth by Juneau Malloy, Brooklyn is faced with the horrors of Isolation’s finest training yet. The skills she learned as an Omen Operative in Camp Number Eleven are put to the test in the form of brutal assessments of her strength, skills, and fortitude. Confused and disheartened, Brooklyn and the group of renegade Omens prepare for whatever trials Isolation has in store for them.

Juneau has caged her once again, but Brooklyn is far from broken…

When Brooklyn finds out her best friend Gabriel is alive, she goes on a violent rampage in search of her, but instead earns herself a stint in solitary confinement. Juneau attempts to tame Brooklyn through grueling exercises before offering her one radical choice. Brooklyn must hand over her freedom in order to spare her friends. She’ll become a showpiece Juneau will auction off to the highest bidder for her skills in assassination, defense, and combat.

There must be a way out, and the renegade Omens have to find it…

Brooklyn has no intention of becoming Juneau’s latest achievement. During a mind-warping training simulation, Brooklyn uncovers Isolation’s greatest secret and their darkest mistake. Juneau Malloy has created something far more sinister than the Omens, and it’s ready to eat the world alive.

As the battle with Isolation intensifies, Brooklyn is faced with her most dangerous choice yet…

Save her friends—or save humanity.

Wow if you read the first book in this series and thought things were crazy in that one, you haven't seen what crazy really is. My favorite characters have to be Brooklyn, Porter, and Gabriel. What happens in this book, really makes me wish the third book was in my greedy little hands right this freaking minute.

The ending and what happens with the whole team is freaking nuts, but one hell of a ride. It ends with one freaking nail bitting cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see what happens next. What one of the bad guys wants to do is freaking insane, and I sure didn't see it coming that's for sure. I would definitely recommend this book for individuals that want to go on one freaking crazy and awesome adventure.

I asked to be part of this book tour, and this review is my honest opinion on how I felt about this very interesting book.

Author Bio:

Taylor Brooke is the author of the sci-fi adventure trilogy The Isolation Series. She started out as a freelance makeup artist, and quickly discovered her love of elves, zombies, mermaids, kaiju, and monsters of all kinds. After receiving eight professional certifications in special effects makeup, working on countless projects, and fleshing out a multitude of fantastical creatures, she turned her imagination back to her one true love — books. Taylor has had a knack for writing since she was a little girl, and received recognition for her skills throughout grade school and junior college. When she’s not nestled in a blanket typing away on her laptop, she can be found haunting the local bookstore with a cup of steaming hot tea in her hands, scanning the shelves for new reads, or hiking one of the many mountains that surround her home in Oregon.

Book Review: ECHO Campaign (Isolation #2) By Taylor Brooke
Echo Campaign - Taylor Brooke

* An eARC was provided by the author in exchange of an honest review.

This was a very enjoyable read and the next book seems like it'll pack a punch. That's probably my expectations speaking, but with the way it ended I can't help but speculate. I'll only know if that's a good thing or bad thing when I get my hands on the next book in this series.

I adore Brooklyn as a character. She's the right amount of protective mother hen and badass. It seemed she was much more emotional this time around and I can't say I disliked it. It made her more human when compared to the rest of the gang.

All the side characters were very involved in this novel and I applaud the author for that. Though I did find myself getting lost in character names and physical appearances a few times. I will confess that I don't necessarily like jumping around in different character point of views, but I can admit that it did work for this story. Without all the jumping around half the story would be a mystery and there would be no point to it all.

The plot twists that happened in this novel were very strategically planned out and I loved every second of it. One of the twists that threw me for a loop was the one involving Porter. I still don't know what to think and I can't help but feel that I'm missing something.

My Favorite Quotes:

"Danger's been my middle name for the last two years."

"Time is a social construct. We don't get to decide what happens, but sometimes we get to decide when."

"Better is a strong word, but I'm getting there."

Title: The Crimson Campaign

Series: Powder Mage

Author: Brian McClellan

Rating: 4 of 5 Stars

Genre: Fantasy

Pages: 628

Format: Kindle digital edition

Synopsis: Spoilers Ahead

Tamas is trapped behind enemy lines and must make his way back, all the while dodging the enemy and not knowing of Taniel is alive or not.

Adramat is desperately trying to find his missing wife and son. In the process, he uncovers an elite academy graduate who is wreaking havoc in Adopest. He must rescue one of the former Cabal, the only one powerful enough to face the graduate.

Taniel is on the front lines. But there is a traitor among the generals and that traitor wants Taniel dead. And Kresimir isn't dead.

And now he's not only pissed, but he's probably insane from the bullet in his head.

Good times for everyone.

My Thoughts:

While I enjoyed the first book, it has taken me over 2 years to work up the "oomph" to actually go through the trouble to borrow the next 2. This is flintlock fantasy, and as such, it is grim, dirty and violent. And just like the first book, it is excellently written.

I have to admit, I had a hard time dealing with the 3 different viewpoints of men all having lots of T's, D's and A's in their name. I found myself having to concentrate to make sure I knew who I was reading about.

I'd like to say more, but honestly, the same apathy that I felt after the first book is still in place. I liked the story, the writing was good, but it just didn't do it for me. I suspect that I'll feel the same about the next and final book, no matter how good it is.
