I Want To Be Friends With the BFG
The BFG - Roald Dahl,Quentin Blake

I LOVE Roald Dahl's, The BFG. Otherwise known as: the Big Friendly Giant. This was the first chapter book I truly enjoyed as I child, and I am currently reading my worn and tattered childhood copy aloud to my son every night. He always begs for me to read one more chapter, reminding me of the same love I had of the story growing up. The BFG centers around a young girl named Sofie, who is scooped up by the giant out of her bed one night. Terrified, because she believes the giant is going to eat her, she soon learns that the BFG is different from normal giants. He is friendly and caring and doesn't eat "human beans" at all. The BFG is full of humor and his silly, jumbled form of language will make any child laugh.

The BFG opens the doors for many lessons and activities including:

  • A lesson on character traits, both physical and inner
  • A discussion about the BFG's gobblefunk glossary, prompting students to create some made-up words of their own
  • Have students create a dream jar like the ones described in the book
  • Have students write about their dream(s)

Charlotte's Web
Charlotte's Web - Garth Williams,E.B. White,Kate DiCamillo

Charlotte's Web is a classical children's book. It is a staple for beginner chapter reads. This book is about a little girl, a pig, and his spider. It is a story of life, death, and moving on. Everyone is working to save Wilbur and they succeed. I would use this in my classroom as a chapter book study.

It's a cute kids book!

OMG…Am I a Witch is a cute chapter book about a girl who accidentally turns her brother into a dog. She didn’t mean to do it and she is not really sure how she did it. She fines a book of spells online and recites a spell at her brother one day on the school bus when he was bothering her and then poof he is a little dog.

April, keeps thinking to herself, am I a witch. She can make things happen with her mind. Her friend Grace who is trying to help her knows about a new girl who is from New Orleans and her grandmother is a witch doctor. So they invite her over to help them try and reverse the spell. All the while they are also trying to hid her brother, Austin. April had to do some really weird things to help change her brother back, things that will make young readers probably giggle or go eww gross.

I would recommend this book for anyone with young girls who love to read.
