THE BIG NAP by Bruce Hale
The Big Nap: A Chet Gecko Mystery - Bruce Hale
Zombies seem to be taking over the school and Chet must find out who is responsible.

This is one where knowing 1940's film noir and jazz works best.  Chet's puns are a hoot!  What pictures they put in my mind.  I love his sidekicks--Natalie and Waldo.  All I can say is thank heavens for them both.  Chet has to stop thinking he can do it alone.  Also this tale gives a timely warning all (adults and kids) should heed.  Can't wait to read the next one.

THE MYSTERY OF MR. NICE by Bruce Hale
The Mystery of Mr. Nice: A Chet Gecko Mystery - Bruce Hale
Chet Gecko is a private eye who is in grade school.  He's been sent to the principal's office but comes out without receiving a punishment.  Who is that guy?  He's sure it's not the real Mr. Zero.  What is going on?

Chet is a hoot.  He sounds like a 1940's Sam Spade or Philip Marlowe.  I chuckled at his puns which are creative.  He solves the mystery but he needs help which is how he gets his Girl Friday, Natalie, who usually has to point him in the right direction.  He also gets a little help from some friends at school and makes a new friend.

I like the cleverness of this series.  I look forward to reading more.

THE CHAMELEON WORE CHARTRUESE by Bruce Hale
The Chameleon Wore Chartreuse: A Chet Gecko Mystery - Bruce Hale
Set-up for the Chet Gecko Mystery series has Chet taking on a case at school where the little brother of a girl he likes is missing.  The doll does not give Chet all the info she has and he has to do a little detective work.  He gets a sidekick he didn't want with Natalie but it is a good thing she's there.  She's got the brains.

I enjoyed this book.  The world building is good.  It reminded me of a 1940's Film Noir movie.  I liked Chet's thought process.  He needs Natalie but eventually figures it out.  I loved the humor and cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
