The paranormal war that engulfed New Orleans seven years ago is over. But the battle for the city is just beginning . . .

Claire Connolly is a Sensitive, infected with magic when the Veil that divides humanity from the world beyond fell. Magic can easily consume and destroy a Sensitive, and if Claire’s secret is discovered she’ll be locked into the walled district of Devil’s Isle along with every other Paranormal left in the city.

Bounty hunter Liam Quinn discovered Claire’s secret, but refused to turn her in. Together they saved New Orleans from the resurgence of magic that nearly destroyed it. But now a dangerous cult is on the rise, and it will take both Claire and Liam—and magical allies within Devil’s Isle’s towering walls—to defeat the occult threat before magic corrupts them both...

The Sight is book two in the Devil’s Isle series by Chloe Neill. We’re in the middle of a war that gets dangerous fast.

This series does need to be read in order. Their is very little recap, and most of the world-building is laid out in book one, The Veil. Each book builds on the next getting us deeper into the magical and political world.

The Sight is tailored towards the political implications of two opposing sides. The start was a bit slow, which made it hard to get into the story, but around the halfway point things pick up and come to a head. Things then start to get very interesting with a few surprises and revelations along the way. It makes me curious especially after such an ending to see what will happen next. I didn’t expect that outcome.

We do get some forward progress with Claire and Liam’s romance. The sexual tension is strong between them, but even though they make progress, they also take a few steps back.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Sight.

Elder Races #6
Thea Harrison
Paranormal Romance
November 5th 2013

Two opponents must confront the cause of their obsessive fury in the latest Novel of the Elder Races…

As a harpy, Sentinel Aryal is accustomed to dealing with hate, but Sentinel Quentin Caeravorn manages to inspire in her a burning ire unlike anything she’s ever known. Aryal believes the new Sentinel to be a criminal, and vows to take him out as soon as the opportunity arises. But the harpy’s incessant wrath has pushed Quentin to the limit, and forces him to make a deadly vow of his own.

To put an end to the conflict, Dragos, Lord of the Wyr, sends them on a reconnaissance mission to the Elven land of Numenlaur. Forced to work together, Aryal and Quentin’s mutual antagonism escalates. Each fight draws forth more passion—culminating in an explosively sexual confrontation. But when their quest reveals real danger, Aryal and Quentin must resolve their differences in ways beyond the physical, before the entire Wyr is threatened.

I was not sure if I would like Aryal’s story. I hated her from the moment I meet her in Dragon Bound. She is such a bitch with a capital B and the way she treats Pia. Ahhh!

Wow, Thea changed my mind on her character with this novel.

Kinked blew me away! I loved the humor, action, adventure, and the massed up love/connection; between Quentin and Aryal. The main characters complement each other and it worked beautifully. I see Aryal in a new light now.

The Elder Races series is one of my favorite paranormal romance series and I highly recommend it for paranormal romance lovers.

Rated: 5 Kinked Stars

Some of my favorite quotes from Kinked:

– “Her life was one eternal rampage. Maybe it was time someone turned the tables on her and went after her with the same kind of relentlessness with which she went after the entire world.”
“And maybe it was past time that someone took that harpy down a peg or two, and showed her who was boss.”

– “As the panther found peace, the harpy stroked his hair and discovered tenderness.”

– “You really do poop sparkly rainbows.”

Review: The Beautiful Ashes (Broken Destiny #1) by Jeaniene Frost (DNF)
The Beautiful Ashes - Jeaniene Frost

The Beautiful Ashes

 Broken Destiny #1

Sometimes, falling in love really is the end of the world…

Ivy has always seen things that she cannot explain. Strange things. Otherworldly things. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is imprisoned in a realm beyond Ivy’s reach. The one person who can help her is the dangerously attractive rebel who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.

The fate Adrian has fought to escape is here – but he never expected the burning need he feels for Ivy. With destiny on one side and desire on the other, Adrian must help Ivy search for the powerful relic that can save her sister. Yet he knows what Ivy doesn’t: the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could destroy the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side, Adrian on the other, and nothing but ashes in between…

DNF The Beautiful Ashes at 57%.

The Beautiful Ashes is book one in the Broken Destiny series by Jeaniene Frost. It’s a Paranormal New Adult book. I’m a fan of (The Night Huntress Series and World). Those characters are funny, engaging, and memorable. Even if you hate them, you still love to hate them, and they also come alive in the writing. That being said this is not like that series.

Ivy and Adrain are not memorable, really non of the characters are in this book. They don’t come alive and they aren’t even all that likable. I couldn’t stand the back and forth, back and forth, blah blah that Ivy and Adrain did. I was over it the first time it began. I couldn’t decide if they where teenagers or young adults in their 20’s. I also couldn’t stand all the time Ivy spends on thinking how attractive Adrain is. It got annoying. The would and plot where semi-interesting, but the characters got in the way. As for the cover, it shows a couple on the front that are much older then the two leads in this book. It’s kinda deceiving.

I just couldn’t finish The Beautiful Ashes. I kept putting this book down and picking something else up to read, then coming back, and then repeating putting it down, coming back. I finally said that’s it.

The Beautiful Ashes was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

Review: Miss Taken (Raging Falls #1) by Milly Taiden {Tour} ~ Excerpt/Giveaway
Miss Taken - Milly Taiden

Miss Taken

(Raging Falls #1)

Published: January 5th 2016
Latin Goddess Press

Waking up in some strange man’s bed was never big girl Kira Ardan’s goal for the day. Neither was waking up naked. Wait, naked? Someone had a lot of explaining to do and soon.

Luke Lyen is at the height of his need. He wants a mate and he wants her now. Finding the woman meant to be his brings out the lust he’s been fighting for days. If only she weren’t so stubborn, he might be able to get her to understand she is his. Then they could move on with dirty, freaky loving.

The big lion is doing things with his tongue that makes Kira’s brain cells melt. It will take more than a little danger to get this curvy woman to let go of her firm beliefs. She’s not interested in being anyone’s MINE, but maybe he can convince her to be HIS.

Reader Note: This book is a work of fiction coming from the mind that brought you the Paranormal Dating Agency. There’s hot, sweaty, naughty sex, adult language, lots of violence and blood, a BBW heroine with a sassy attitude and a growly lion desperate for a mate. If this is not the kind of stuff you like to read, skip this book. However, if you’re a fan of all things naughty and humor, this is perfect for you. Enjoy!

“Are all your exes psychotic?” She raised her brows, folding her arms on her chest. “Was she crazy before or after you got with her?” She leaned back on the island getting a better view of his face. Lord, the man was fucking gorgeous. Not in the clean cut sort of way. He had the whole fuck rough, dirty, and make you sweat thing going. A deep scar was etched down his cheek into his day’s old beard growth. She licked her lips and glanced down his massive frame. “Sex can make women insane.” Luke raked his gaze down her body with an amount of possession she’d never seen in any man’s eyes. “You found clothes.”

She glanced down at herself. Fuck. She was naked under the thin shirt. Her nipples decided to make themselves known by hardening into small points. Good thing she had her arms crossed. She jerked her gaze up to his face. She wouldn’t be swayed by dark and sexy looks. No way. She was pissed. “You stripped me?” He nodded, turning away from her to march out of the kitchen into the living area. “Excuse me!” She ground her teeth. “Did it ever occur to you that it was wrong to get someone you don’t know, who was passed out, naked?” He stopped and faced her so fast, she limped back. “No. All I thought was the fact you were hurt,” he stated, an angry bite in his voice. “I could have left you out there to die. Instead, I brought you here and ensured you were warm and I wrapped your ankle.” He glanced down at her foot. “You shouldn’t be walking around.” “I need my phone.” He leaned forward, bringing his eyes level with hers. “Use mine.” She swayed on her one foot. He grabbed her by the arms and lifted her in his arms. “Put me down. I can walk,” she said while curling her arms around his neck. Goodness. This close up he was killing her brain cells. “I don’t need a barbarian lugging me around like I’m a sack of potatoes.” He stopped and glanced at her lips. The look he gave her was so hot, warmth caressed her face from his gaze. “I’ve never met a female who compared herself to a sack of potatoes,” he said, hugging her body tighter to his. “You’re much softer than them. And,” he sniffed, a soft growl sounding from his lips, “you smell much better, too.”

~ 3.5 Miss Taken Stars ~

Miss Taken is book one in the Raging Falls series by Milly Taiden. We are treated to a sexy hero and sassy heroine with a bit of suspense, which made this a delightful read.

This story does have similar aspects as others that MT has written. It’s short, sweet, and fun. It’s an insta-love/attraction story, so things move fast, but MT always makes the insta feel real and believable. That is one thing I enjoy about MT. Some authors can make the insta work and others not so much.

The characters as always have great banter and chemistry together. We are introduced to a whole new set of characters, which is always enjoyable. Kira is a strong women who is biding her time in getting what is her’s back. Wow, her brother and dad where both pieces of work. Those stipulations her father made. Harsh! Luke, is a sexy as sin shifter. What is not to enjoy?

The only thing that bothered me was Kira and the loss of her glasses. I did not get why no one noticed, even her mate, that Kira had to squinting just to make out features on people. For her to not have glasses, to do some of the things she did outside when bad things where happening was a little hard to get, and also hard to believe her mate would not notice this difference. Since I have glasses it’s easy for me to understand the plight of not having them. It’s not that big a deal, but it did bug me.

All around Miss Taken was a delicious read and I look forward to more in the Raging Falls series.
