Good Girl Gone, Seekers Mystery, Sam Berretti
Good Girl Gone (Seekers Mystery Book 2) ... Good Girl Gone (Seekers Mystery Book 2) - Sam Berretti

I received this mystery for free and I voluntarily choose to review it. I've given it a 4.5* rating. This mystery had a lot in it. It had a little romance, a lot of action, some humor. and adventure. It was very hard to put down, just wanted to know what happened next. Because of the sex and the violence, it is not suitable for the under 18 readers. I really like Doris, the heroine in the story. Between her ex military training and her brain, she ends up getting the job done. I really enjoyed this series so far.

In Good Spirits
In Good Spirits (Violetta Graves Mystery Book 1) - Michele Bardsley

Violetta is a bit of a deadbeat. She's 30, with no savings or job. This novella opens with Violetta in small claims court being sued by her ex. Much happens and she is accused of murder. Luckily, this wraps up, no cliffhanger. I wanted more. I enjoyed her snarky humor.
I needed to laugh and this did it. "Men have sweaty balls. It's like acid that eats away at the fragile fabric."

A Good Man Gone by A.W. Hartoin; A Mercy Watts Mystery
A Good Man Gone: A Mercy Watts Mystery - A.W. Hartoin

Love, love, love Mercy Watts!  I can't wait to read the next 5 books of this series!  This book was laugh out loud hilarious!

"Well, if it isn't Mercy Watts."

It’s summer in St. Louis and Mercy Watts is on vacation from her parents. The great detective and his nosy wife are on a cruise and Mercy thinks she’s off the hook for doing any investigating for them. But when a family friend has a fatal heart attack, Dad has one of his famous feelings and orders Mercy to look into it. Mercy's a nurse, not a detective but she’s her father’s daughter and just can't help herself from doing a little detective work of her own instead of leaving it to her cousin. Soon Gavin’s death leads to a more grisly one, the death of a bride on her wedding day. Can the two be connected? Was Gavin murdered? Now Mercy can’t stop. You do for family. That’s all there is to it.

"I've heard about... You know you look just like... Marilyn Monroe," he said.
"Mercy Watts," I said, "How are you today?"
"Fine, fine. I guess you hear that a lot."
"Occasionally." Also known as every freaking day.

The mystery intrigued me, the characters were funny, quirky and believable, and I loved that Mercy Watts and her mother look just like Marilyn Monroe (only natural blondes with real boobs).  The story-line about their Marilyn Monroe likeness was just a mysterious and adds to a fun plot-line to the book.

A Good-Looking Corpse: A Tom Tanner Mystery - Jeff Klima

#AGOOD-LOOKINGCORPSE  AVAILABLE 7/26/16  4 STARS!   This was such an entertaining book. It read kind of like an old time crime novel, but it was present day. The main character, Tom, was a clean up guy. He cleaned up the grisly scenes after a death, no matter the cause.

Somehow he gets involved with this rather morbid and grotesque film producer (he saves famous skulls) who wants to be his friend and who wants to do a movie about him and his life. I'm sitting there reading this book and thinking "what a horrible, dull, boring movie that would be". Then I find out there are other, not so legal, motives involved. Meanwhile, Tom has pissed off a street gang that wants him dead. So Tom is spending most of his time looking everywhere he goes for some kind of a trap.

This was a really good book with lots of humor thrown into the story. He comes up with some pretty funny ways to try and get the bad guys. Of course, there are the serious moments as well.

I really enjoyed reading this book and would read more by this author. I liked the writing style and the character development. Definitely recommendable.

Thanks Random House and Net Galley for the free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.

Powerful Dialogue and Description in a Solid Mystery
When Good Men Die: A Sam Dawson Mystery - Steven W. Horn

When Good Men Die joins others in a mystery series begun in The Pumpkin Eater, and while prior familiarity with the character of Sam Dawson is recommended, it's not a necessity to quickly absorb the unusual investigative skills of Sam, a photographer by trade.

The first thing to note here is that Horn injects a wry comic sense into some of his interactions: a satisfyingly different way of bringing characters and plots to life.

By peppering these moments throughout the story, characters come to life and readers receive both vivid descriptions and fun interludes to mitigate the tension of the investigation that immerses Sam in another conundrum.

Another device that sets When Good Men Die apart from other genre reads is the fact that it excels in blending dialogue with description, with maximum impact: readers thus achieve a level of depth, understanding, and involvement that make for a truly exquisite read as they follow Sam into danger and back again. As readers come to not just read but to care about Sam, Annie, and the events that threaten to immerse them, they will receive a different crime saga that questions impulse, intention, and the intersection between violence and aggression.

Changes are in the works for Sam; the nature of which is revealed in the course of a rollicking good read recommended for genre mystery readers and newcomers to the format alike. There's nothing 'formula' about this work: believable and surprisingly fun protagonists and dark moments juxtaposed with a dash of light humor make for an involving story many a novel reader will find satisfyingly filled with depth and vision: elements too often lacking in many mystery genre stories.
