How to act at Recess
First Grade Friends: Recess Mess (level 1) - Grace Maccarone,Betsy Lewin

This is a great book to teach the importance of learning to read. I would ask my students all the benefits of learning to read and write. We would then read the book and I would ask my students what they learned from the book about reading. They will know how important it is to read just for everyday living. My main goal is for my students to love reading and writing.

Dear Mr. Henshaw - Paul O. Zelinsky,Beverly Cleary

Grade level 5

Dear Mr. Henshaw is a great book to have the students read and write a report. The book has many examples of writing different types of letters (buisness letters and personal letters). The book also includes rhymes and pictures to keep the students' attention.

Danny and the Dinosaur Go to Camp - Syd Hoff

Grade level 1.8

This is a great tool to introduce sentence structure to young students. The real lesson with this book is the reading itself.

What Will Float? - Fred Biddulph,Jeanne Biddulph

Grade level 1

What Will Float? is a great introduction to science concepts for kids. It opens the door for students to ask questions and explain things to them through a non-fiction aspect. It also introduces important new vocabulary words.

Madeline (Picture Books) - Ludwig Bemelmans

Grade Level 3.8

Madeline is a great story to introduce young students to scary concepts, like having surgery or going to the hospital, through a fictional tale.
