The Missing Girls - Linda O'Neal
The Missing Girls: A Shocking True Story of Abduction and Murder - Linda O'Neal,Rick Watson,Philip Tennyson
A friend and co-worker of mine lent me this book. I love true crime, and had not heard of this particular case before.
What a sad, tragic story about two girls murdered in Oregon. Unfortunately if it wasn't for a third teen being raped, the murderer wouldn't have been discovered. I cried a couple of times. As a mom, it was tough to read about. The abuse and savage murders were too much for me. The manipulation and head games disgusted me to my soul. I had to put the book aside so many times.
The writing felt like reading a news report at times. Not throughout, but enough to sometimes be a snooze fest. It was the only downside to reading it. It also added to me taking a bit to read it.
I love true crime though. Reading facts and real stories excite me like reading a horror novel. I'm sure I'm not alone either, so pick his one up.

Before I Go to Sleep
Before I Go to Sleep - S.J. Watson,Orlagh Cassidy

Every morning, Christine wakes up in an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar house shared with a man who tells her that he is her husband Ben. He tells her that she has amnesia because of an accident that happened 20 years before. It's a little bit like "What if 50 First Dates were a thriller?"

Christine gets a call from a man who identifies himself as Dr. Nash. He tells her where to find a journal she has been keeping. Maybe through the journal and interventions from Dr. Nash, she can regain lost memories and piece together what has happened to her.

I ripped through this book quickly, wanting to find out what happened. I quickly developed theories, some of which were correct--though there was a twist I did not see coming. Although I was thoroughly engaged, it did turn out the be the kind of plot where, once resolved, I thought, "But that would never happen!

And once it was over, I wished there were at least one more chapter.

Great Story and Characters
A Safe Place - Margaret Watson

Tough, tender-hearted Frankie Devereux doesn't have time to babysit a smooth-talking football player who's supposed to be doing community service at her after-school center for troubled teens. She's dealing with serious stuff – gang problems, a homeless pregnant girl and scraping together enough money to keep her center open. But when a dark secret from her past threatens Frankie and the existence of her program, Cal tries to step up and help. But with his career on the line, which will he choose? Football? Or Frankie and her vulnerable kids?

This was a really good story. Contemporaries and egotistical main characters are hit and miss for me but I really liked this one. The author did a great job with Cal (and of course Frankie). The overall story and underlying plot were well written. I highly recommend.

**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

Carol's Quest for Courage - JoAnn Sky
There's a Unicorn in the Garden - Katy Brown
Save the Arctic - Bethany Stahl
Nobody's Cats: How Little Black Kitty Came in from the Cold - Valerie Ingram,Alistair Schoff

The books in this round up are pretty good.

Nobody's Cats - good cat story about a community that takes care of stray cats.  Happy cat story.  Based on a true story.

There's A Unicorn in the Garden- yeah, yeah an instead of a.  Yet despite that, the story is nice and cute.  It is a good problem solving story.  And the art work was nice.

The Travelling Circus- spooky book.  If you have kids, you might want to read it first.  It is ideal for the Carnival square.  It was a good story.

Save the Arctic-  a bit preachy, but nice little story.

Carol's Quest for Courage- a nice story about a dog and a girl finding courage together.
