Symbols in Dreams: What Do they Reveal About Yourself?

dreams

Have you ever thought about dreaming process in a detailed manner? If not, then it is better to understand because dreams have a huge role to play in developing our minds to a certain level. This is a matter of fact that indicates every person on earth does experience a phenomenon of dreaming for 90 minutes to 2 hours in the night. Therefore, being a human being you must be aware of the importance of symbols in dreams.

Meaning of Dreams

According to the definition which was given by the father of Psychology Sigmund Freud, dreams can be easily differentiated into two main parts: one is manifest content and other islatent content.

  • Manifest Content

After awaking from a dream, the thoughts and feelings which you remember and can easily describe in your own words to others as and when required are what Freud calls manifest content. This is the content of the dream which is actually censored and as a result the meaning of the dream is changed. During these situations, people do not disclose the actual content of their dreams in front of others.

  • Latent Content

This kind of dream content is the actual one and it is based on reality as well. Therefore, this cannot be explained or interpreted as it will remain the same.

What the Position You Sleep in Can Say about Your Relationship

What the Position You Sleep in Can Say about Your Relationship

sleep

Psychologists found out that the position in which married couples sleep can tell a lot about their relationship and personality traits.

The new study has also provided important information about the preferences of extroverts and creative people.

Professor Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire conducted a large-scale study, during which he managed to interview more than 1,000 people.

The scientist was primarily interested in the question of how the position in which couples prefer to spend the night can reveal things about the features of their personality and relationship.

According to the psychologist, the “back to back” position is the most common among married couples, since 42% of all respondents said it was their favorite sleeping position.

In second place in popularity there was the “in one direction” position with 31 percent. And only 4% of all couples claimed to sleep facing each other.

Approximately 12% of all respondents said they slept in close proximity to each other, while 2% preferred to keep a distance not less than one meter.

“The most important factor pointing to the harmonious relationship is touching each other during sleep. 94% of all couples who said they had body contact are very happy in the relationship. At the same time, among couples who avoid body contact during sleep only 68% are satisfied with their love status quo,” said the professor.

Also the results of the survey showed that the further the partners are from each other during sleep, the less satisfied they are with their relationship. About 86% of all the happy couples said they spend the night close to each other, and about 66% prefer to keep a distance of more than one meter.

Another interesting finding was about extroverted people who seem to prefer to cuddle up to their loved ones when sleeping. At the same time, creative people tend to sleep on their left hand side of the bed.

Top 5 Weirdest Mental Disorders Ever

Top 5 Weirdest Mental Disorders Ever

disorders

1. Walking corpse syndrome

People suffering from this syndrome (also known as Cotard’s syndrome) are sure that they are dead, are putrefying or have lost a part of the body or an internal organ. In severe cases, a patient may believe that he does not exist! Walking corpse syndrome usually is the result of a traumatic brain injury or mental disorder.

2. Pica eating disorder

This is a very unusual and rare mental disorder that is expressed in the appetite of a patient for soil, coal, paper and other non-edible things. It is unclear what is the cause of this disease, but there is a hypothesis that it may be provoked by an unbalanced diet, which leads to a lack of minerals in the body. The fact that the disorder is most common in pregnant women and children from poor regions confirms this assumption.

3. Foreign accent syndrome

It is a specific speech disorder that manifests itself in a sudden change of intonation and pronunciation. It seems that the sufferer begins to speak with a foreign accent. The disorder is usually the result of a severe brain injury and is manifested within 1-2 years after the injury. Only a few patients of the approximately 60 cases reported since 1941 managed to recover.

4. Alien hand syndrome

Victims of this mental disorder think that they have lost control of their hands. In severe cases, patients engaged with their hands in a real battle, when they tried to strangle their owners in sleep. This syndrome, like most others, is caused by damage to the brain. The symptoms are treatable.

5. Exploding head syndrome

Those suffering from this disorder periodically hear loud sounds of an explosion, which seem to come straight out of their heads. The explosions usually begin 1-2 hours after falling asleep. There is no physical pain, but for obvious reasons patients feel intense fear and anxiety after such attacks. At the moment the exact cause of the disorder remains unknown, but it is often associated with overwork and stress, and the symptoms often disappear by themselves, without any treatment.
