Parting Shot - Mary Calmes

Wait a minute, this isn't about Jory & Sam? Jeez, I need to read blurbs. This was a bit of an overlay from the last book and Sam Kage made a cameo appearance, but it was all about the pairing of billionaire Aaron Sutter and homicide detective Duncan Stiel. There was insta love and eyebrow waggles and it was ok. Personally Aaron would drive me nuts, but Duncan seems to hold his own and knows when to give in. So good pairing.

a bit odd... but me likey
Naked - Todd Young

Well done Mr. Young, well done.   It starts with Leigh, who has an exhibitionist streak in him.  He makes plans for a bike ride & skinny dip outing, and decides to wear a training suit sized for a 12 year old.   The suit is super tight, and stretched out so much that it's virtually see-through, and Leigh is into the idea.  In fact, he subtly cruises guys at the 7-11 he is into it so much.  The suit becomes a character.   And something happens to this inanimate character, and things then get very interesting. And creepy.  And sexy in a fucked up sort of way.

License to Date [Susan Hatler]
License to Date - Susan Hatler

I think this book is longer then the others in the series.  Maybe it's just longer then the last few books.

There's a big reveal about Paul (who isn't really who he says he is).  I figured out who he was long before we get to that point, and I won't spoil too much by saying who he is.  He never lies to her, just omits things.

I really loved these two together and was surprised at the reminder that it's only been a week.  The book starts during the weekend and ends that Friday, with an epilogue set two months after the end of the book.

I could have done without the whole coincidence that his name just happens to be Paul.  I get that some names are popular, but poor Kaitlin didn't need the added confusion of that. I expected her ex Paul to show up at some point and confuse people even more.

Land Hold [L.K. Stewart]
Land Hold - L.K. Stewart

[Some Spoilers]
I expected most of this book to be with Eric, James and Tess already on the land that they won during the Land Grab, but they spend very little time on their plot before the war starts.  The end was a bit sudden and I'll admit to being a little disappointed at all of the war setup ending with a neurotoxin.  I liked the start of this book a lot more than the start of the first one, but the ending, while a good end in itself wasn't really want I expected.  Maybe the author didn't want anyone to ask for a sequel?  There was a lot of build up about the pirate soldiers and it's kind of a let down that ended without any real drama. Not that I really wanted anyone to die, but I expected at least some fighting. I feel a little harsh, but the "war" really starts a few chapters before the end and there wasn't really enough time for any drama.  I wish it had been longer, and I don't think I've ever said that before.

Oh well, Tess Eric and James get their happy endings and no one really dies so it all works out.  They do get their land and that was the main thing, I think.

Reading progress update: I've read 53%.
Land Hold - L.K. Stewart

This one jumps straight into the action and I've had no trouble getting into it so far.  I think part of that is that this is the second book and the first one suffered from first book syndrome.  I already know who most of the people are and the world isn't so strange anymore.  I expected it to start after they got to their plot of land, although why I thought that I have no idea.  The way it is makes a lot more sense, but I really expected the drama to be protecting their land from others who wanted it.  I think there will be some of that too, but I'm half done and they haven't even gotten there yet.  They are back on the island and getting ready to go, however.
