Booknote: The Public Library
The Public Library: A Photographic Essay -

This is a beautiful book, and it is one that will likely go on my list of best reads for 2014. For librarians, especially public librarians, and for fans of libraries, this is a book that will warm the heart.

Click the link above to read the full review. As always, comments are welcomed. By the way, I think it is very appropriate that I borrowed this book from my local public library.

Booknote: Active Learning Techniques for Librarians: Practical Examples
Active Learning Techniques for Librarians: Practical Examples - Andrew Walsh,Padma Inala

There are some good practical things, including one or two items I jotted down to try out. There is also a good number of activities I have seen before, so experienced practitioners may not find much new here. Read my full review of this on my blog, The Itinerant Librarian. Just click the link to check it out.

Keeping up with Readers' Advisory in Horror
The Readers' Advisory Guide to Horror, 2nd Ed - Becky Siegel Spratford

As I wrote in my review, "this book was a serendipity find for me at the public library. I picked it up to get a refresher on the genre and help keep up my RA (readers' advisory for my non-librarian friends) skill set." The book is certainly made for librarians, especially public librarians who may do RA extensively, but I think horror readers may find use for it as well.

Booknote: Not Your Ordinary Librarian
Not Your Ordinary Librarian: Debunking the Popular Perceptions of Librarians - Ashanti White

I have posted my full review of this on my blog, The Itinerant Librarian. Feel free to click the link to check it out. This may be of interest to some librarians and some folks who study pop culture...maybe. I did not think it was much to write home about, but your mileage could vary.
