Shiny!
Shiny! - Amy Lane

Now I know Amy Lane is supposed to be the queen of angst, although since I usually avoid angst like the plague, that could be a rumor. But I do know that she is also the queen of sweet, funny, fluffy and Shiny goodness.

Kenny and Will, it shouldn't work, but boy does it!
"But… but…,” Kenny sputtered, “I’m gay!” Will laughed and shook his head. “Yeah, but at least you’re not a witch,” he said and reached down to gather the rest of the weirdness from the road.”
They really understand each other! they enjoy the same things and they are so good for each other. I loved seeing their friendship and then more develop.
“For a moment Kenny considered being overwhelmed, but then he realized that not only did Will speak his language, he apparently lived in Kenny’s home country.”

It's told sort of backwards. We start at the end and find out how we get there.
“He was just such a nice man. Kenny did snarky—he got snarky. But Will was just so… so… sweet.”
“You’re… you’re like the friend I always wanted and never thought I could have!”

If you want a happy sweet book that will leave you with a smile on your face, then this might be the book for you! :)

A beautiful story
The Apothecary's Garden - Julie Bozza

I bought the paperback of this book and took it with me to all my appointments and read it while I was waiting, which took a bit, but honestly, this book deserves the slow approach. It deserves to be savored and enjoyed, like a good cup of tea. Not rushed through.
Like Butterfly Hunter this is a slow meandering, flowing like a small stream, no big action or wild emotions. Friendship and then love develops between two men who at least at first glance are very different.
Hilary is a very quiet and settled man. He's retired and lives alone and always has, no close friends or any family, and he's fine with that.
Tom is working on his thesis and with his excitement and dedication to Hilary's garden and the story of Thaddeus he easily wins Hilary over.
I believe Tom enriched and beautified Hilary's life as much as Hilary enriched and helped Tom find something he was looking for.
“But that was all right, for he knew that this precious gift of love was such a fragile thing. He must keep it safe for its own sake to allow it to thrive, like an exotic plant in its own little glasshouse – and more importantly than that he must protect Tom. Nothing ignoble must attach itself to this wonderful young man. Nothing must harm him in any way.”

There is over a 40 year age difference, which is a lot, not just in years, but in experience. Tom grew up in a much more accepting and open world than Hilary. And of course our life experiences make us who we are.
I really did love seeing them find something together. Having their own rituals and traditions. Their Thursday night date, their tea time. That's what makes it real.
“Oh Tom, I’ve never asked for anything more from life than contentment, and for most of my years I’ve had exactly that. I suppose it seemed too much and too late to start asking for happiness.”

This is a story for people who enjoy quiet and understated stories, strong emotions but not yelled out, they are all the more powerful for being whispered.

I had one or two things I was a little uncertain of, but it didn't diminish my enjoyment.

He does a lot more than Kiss Joan Collins...
Kissing Joan Collins (Valentine's Day 2012 from MLR Press) - Lex Valentine
I won this as an audiobook. And it finally got me to venture over to audible ( popping my audible cherry, so to speak).

I've had good and less than good ( sometimes downright awful experience with audiobooks) and this one was definitely good. The narrator was nice to listen to and I could tell who was who.

The story is a very sweet friends-to-lovers one. Logan has loved Chase since the first day he saw him at college, but Chase is perfect and Logan is sure he doesn't stand a chance. So he keeps his feelings well hidden and enjoys the close friendship they have.
Now, a decade later Chase is going to change the status quo and he picks a very interesting and sexy way of doing it.
This one really is sweet, very sweet, totally fluffy and great for a feel-good, no angst, lots of luv and sexy heels kind of read. ( or in my case hear)

No Fear In Love...really?
No Fear in Love - Jamie Craig

I think this short had a lot of potential, but at least for me, it was too short and had too much sex to really realize it.
Weston doesn't really fit in but God and his faith has always been there for him.
He's loved his best and only friend Mark for many years but thought there was never any future for them as more than friends. So he became an Anglican priest and is content, mostly.
Now Mark is here to see if he can change that. Is Mark worth throwing his whole life over?

“Nothing hurt when he woke up, surrounded by Mark’s warmth. Nothing hurt when they were children, playing together. Nothing hurt when they were sharing a pint and laughing over something stupid. Nothing hurt when they were just together.”

Uhg...
Accepting the Alpha (Great Lakes Wolves #1) - J.J. Black
This is what I get for being such a sucker for sales. *hangs head in shame*

I love shifter stories, I love fated mates, I don't mind GFY.
What I don't like it washy washy behavior that's inconsistent, I don't like asshats and stupidity and well.i also don't like this book's MC Kellan.
So...we have the über evil alpha father, the deranged stalker, the other deranged twink stalker, a best friend and beta set up for the next story, and a brother and another lone wolf for another book oh and a horrible conspiracy and obviously lots of crazy shifters..
But, back to this one...Kellan sees Eli in the bar...they talk for one minute and Eli ( who was straight until he walks in to that bar) leaves to get a drink. Kellan sees him hit on and just has to intervene and grab his mate within seconds they are making out on the dance floor.
*cue screw-ish twinks entrance*
Then it's like I'm not gonna force you to be my mate but then he sort of does...
Then the alpha wants his mate, his lover, his parter, but he has this need to be the dominant partner and keeps playing the * I'm that alpha, you have to do as I say*. Um yeah you're the alpha, but really pulling rank like that in the bedroom, or rather the office? Not cool. ( I don't think they actually made it in to the bedroom.)
annoyed the beejeeze out of me Eli is a huge beta and Keelan treats him like a little woman ( hint, the reason I switched from m/f to m/m was to get away from that annoying stereotype) Now, Eli does stand up for himself, but gives in anyway, and Keelan says yes whatever my mate wants but doesn't see the point of conceding that issue...but of course leaves him alone when the danger IS RIGHT THERE..um..huh?
I'm not even going to start in on the sex and dirty talk..I skimmed it as much as possible.
And then there was one scene I could have sworn was a telephone convo but he kept saying things about the look in the other guys eyes and stuff, so I wasn't sure, even when he said he's in a car and needs to drive there, I was still confused as to where he was, there or not there?
But it wasn't worth rereading to try and figure it out.

So, well, yeah, not for me.
