**Spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned**

This was an intensely insane book. It was filled with such tension and apprehension that you’re filled with pins and needles all throughout the book. You knew it was inevitable and everything was going to be crumbling down with Nat’s plan but the question was how and when. 

You have to admit, despite everything Nat’s plan was just so well thought out all for one thing - relying on a drug dealer. Of all kinds of people, she relies on one that could (and did) ultimately turned tail and pretty much ruined the entire plan. That was the biggest flaw of the entire thing and you have to wonder if she didn’t rely on him, would the whole thing have worked out?

You have to admire her smarts for pulling this off. Her character is excellent and she’s fiercely protective of her family as a unit (understandably so) it’s almost scary to underestimate her as Will seems to have done (and is still doing.) And it’s so hard to like Will in fact he’s so unlikable you don’t understand why Nat just picks up her things and leaves. Aside from also nearly ruining Nat’s plan he’s pretty much a spineless nitwit and doesn’t contribute much to anything. Nat should have kicked him to the curb a long time ago (or when she found out about his stupidities)

The plot itself was so well done it was hard to stop reading. It pretty much grabs you from cover to cover. It’s seamless with no interruptions, it can get frustrating because of some of their actions, but it’s such a good read. The ending, although everything did come to a close, makes you want to be extra careful of Nat.

I enjoyed reading this one and it’s definitely recommended.

The plot idea behind this book is good. It's really interesting, but as it is used in this book, it doesn't quite work. Possible spoilers, though I will try to keep it non-spoilerish.

The book opens with a couple on a first date, talking about how, since they are smart, they could get away with killing someone. Then we jump to years later where said couple -Will and Nat (short for Natalie) are married with a young son and the marriage might not be doing well. Nat is a bit too anal and Will might be having an affair.

And then Nat finds out that her son has been molested. Since she is a defense attorney, she knows what children go though when questioned, so she decides to kill the pedophile. But Will has to step in at the last minute to clean up the mess.


And that's part of the problem - if I am suppose to believable that Will is willing to back his wife up, I have to buy that he has some type of feeling for her. And I just don't buy it. The reader is shown a first date and then a marriage that is a degree of trouble. There is no in between. There is mention of happy times, but since we don't really see them working as a couple, it's hard to fully buy Will not caving.


Nat too is a problem, mostly because she seems too judgmental and superior to those women around her. In fairness, this could be a comment on suburban women who have one rule for themselves and another for everyone else. But you don't even feel intense dislike for her. Unlikable characters are fine, but you should feel something.

Finally, there is too much repetition. The author tells you the same thing more than once, and most times it sounds like an info dump.

Vigilante justice and the perfect murder. Except it's not so perfect. What the blurb doesn't give away on the who and why of this one is answered pretty quickly, so there's no suspense on that angle. The suspense here lays in whether or not Will and Nat will get away with it. On an emotional level, any parent can understand and even empathize with this couple's actions - the need to protect our children from harm and the anger and despair when we can't. So, while that part certainly tugs at the heartstrings, I still couldn't find anything likable about this couple other than their love for their son. Natalie is almost robotic as she goes through the motions of life. She's cold and calculating with everyone except Charlie. Will is the more human of the pair, but he's also weak to the point of being spineless. This story does have its moments. There are some truly brilliant scenes, including some that had me on the edge of my seat. The problem is that they are too far and few between. What should've been a steadily rising tension is stilted with too much lag time in the story. We do get a couple of interesting twists, and I did want to see how it came together. So, in the end, there were things I liked and things I didn't, leaving me somewhere in the middle on this one. 

Kat Grant is an artsy socialite. Alice Campbell is a struggling suburbanite. But these two women are best friends. So when Kat's husband, Howard, falls to his death from the second floor balcony of their mansion, Alice will be there for her. Howard wasn't a nice person. He was abusive, he was arrogant, a drunk, and according to police he was a murder victim. But Alice can't get a hold of Kat - no calls, no texts, and her wealthy family will not let Alice near their daughter.

This book kept me up into the early hours of the morning when I was already exhausted. That's a sign of a good book! Kat and Alice were real. They were interesting and frustrating. These two have lots of layers. We go back and forth from present day to three years ago when Alice and Kat first met. Great writing. Suspenseful. I did figure out a big part early on, which I'm no good at doing, so I don't know if that's why I felt underwhelmed with the ending or if there was a bit much going on or maybe it's a combination of both. But overall this was a compelling read that I wish I had've read sooner!

On their first date Natalie and Will, both law students, joked that they could plan the perfect murder together. After fifteen years of marriage, one son together, and a principal who has molested that son they will find out if they were right about getting away with murder. As a defense attorney Natalie does not want her son to go through the trauma of a trial. So she decides to take care of the problem with the help of her unwilling husband.

I love the cover. At first I wasn't sure about this book because it kind of reminded me of The Murder Game by Catherine McKenzie which was excellent, so this one didn't stand a chance. I was wrong on so many levels. I couldn't get enough of this story. I had to know what was going to happen. Could they really get away with it?! It was so suspenseful! I liked Natalie. I liked how their family seemed normal - both parents loved their kid and would do anything for him, after many years of marriage Natalie and Will weren't as close as they used to be, good people making bad choices. Did I mention the suspense? Constantly worrying if today would be the day they'd be thrown in jail. So good. Margot Hunt's "Best Friends Forever" has been on my TBR list forever. I definitely won't be putting that one off any longer!
