Reading progress update: DNF on page 60
The Unseeing - Anna Mazzola

I was pondering for a couple of days now, whether or not I should DNF this book. But since I don´t get a lot of enjoyment out of this novel, I´m just doing it.

My specific problem with this book is a plot related one. A couple of years ago I read Hannah Kent´s "Burial Rites", a historical fiction novel, in which a woman is sentenced to death and a man is trying to get her off of death row. He does so by trying to ferret out her secrets, which the woman won´t disclose, and to find out what really has happened in that one fateful night. And I really enjoyed this book.

This book, however, is a variation of this plot. As was Margaret Atwood´s Alias Grace, which was a DNF for me as well because of the exact same reason.

It seems like this plot works for me in exactly one book and after that I´m just not interested anymore in these kind of stories.

DNF on page 60.

Dirty Martini (The Happy Hour Series, #3) by Kristen Hope Mazzola
Dirty Martini (The Happy Hour #3) - Kristen Hope Mazzola

The Happy Hour series feels like a new beginning. I've read Mazzola in the past and although she writes powerful stories, her heroes tend to be darker and her heroines a tad bit needy. Dirty Martini let's the lighter side of love shine through. Mazzola proves she has a sense of humor. Sawyer and Trace have a laugh track right to my heart and take full advantage. Weaved within the laughter are important themes. Stories of friendship, empowerment and acceptance. Wisdom, heart and humor collide to storm their way into a heart.

Gin & Tonic: A Romantic Comedy Standalone (The Happy Hour Series Book 2) by Kristen Hope Mazzola
Gin & Tonic (The Happy Hour #2) - Kristen Hope Mazzola

Harper is a confident woman. When it comes to her professional life, she takes no prisoners. Personally, she lacks the confidence to take risks with her heart. Mazzola finds humor in what could be realistically heartbreaking. Gin & Tonic is smartly written, irresistibly witty look into one woman's road to finding her voice. Harper is at her most relatable when she's struggling with insecurities. We've all been there and found our footing in the end. Sweetly charming.

The right people at the wrong time, could stumble into love. Or is it the other way around? Could the wrong people at the right time take a chance on forever? Offsides takes a series of unfortunate events and turns them into proof positive that true love does exist. Ari and Logan are in no way a perfect match, but their hearts think they are. From heated to heartwarming, Mazzola turns instant fire into captivating reading.
