Netherworld
Netherworld - Kathryn Le Veque Sir Keller de Poyer has been rewarded lands and a title in Wales for his meritorious service...this also comes with a women he must marry. Keller is a older man about 41 years and he has been award with women after being promised to a widow whose husband shows back up. Keller was attached to the widow children and has never gotten over the hurt of that deception. So when he meets his 'new' wife Chrystobel he is quickly attracted to her but is slow to trust her. After just some hours there at the house/property he finds that the father is slow to come out of hiding, his future wife has a bruise on her face, the brother is abusive in his words to others. When Keller confronts the brother with Keller taking over and to set him strait on his abusive behavior, the brother attracts Chrystobel. We find out that the family is scared and abuse by the brother and has threaten to kill them if Chrystobel does not killer her new husband. Chrystobel decided to tell her new husband of all the things that her brother has done and wants done in hopes he can save them. Keller has started to have his hard heart chipped away by Chrystobel and her young sister. This was a really great read! I loved it! It does have some more violence then some books, and it does have less sexual content but it does have a lot of emotional feelings and overcoming mental obstetrical. Keller really turned out to be a gentle giant.

Review: Netherworld
Netherworld - K.N. Lee

Koa is a young woman that's a hybrid, meaning she can survive off of a mixture of blood and food. Koa struggles to be around people and keep her inner vampire in check, which makes kicking demon arse the perfect job for her. Did I mention she wields a sword? Yes, it's very cool. The fight scenes are pretty awesome. Besides her job, she enjoys spending time with her cursed mother (bummer right?), watching movies, and crushing on her angelic boss. Up until now Koa has been able to stay off the radar of many baddies but that's all changing now that she's the target of several demons attentions.

Halston is Koas boss, best friend, and protector. It's up to him to keep not only Koa safe and inline but also to protect all of his other agents and the innocent people of Earth. Halston is pretty angelic, in my opinion, even the way he looks pretty much pegs him as one, so it's not surprising Koa has a thing for the blue eyed blond.

I really enjoyed this story because I was constantly trying to figure out what was going to happen next, but was always surprised when things took a left turn. The book wasn't as predictable as I've come to expect from books geared towards teens, which was nice. It's just a cool story with evil vampires, good vampires, demons, rampaging angels with a cutesy light love story on the side.

I think this is great for older teens and adults who dig this sorta stuff. Koa is a likable heroine that you can easily cheer on and snicker at as the story progresses. There is swearing and such with battle scenes, but it's not bad at all or overdone. Typical teen stuff.

Netherworld
Netherworld - Lisa Morton The book is set in the 19th century with a huge dose of the paranormal. Diana is a young woman who has been encouraged to have ideals unlike her peers in terms of religion, but yet is staunchly critical of anything that smacks of the paranormal. She meets her husband, William who, prior to engaging her, shows her a gateway to hell which quickly changes her mind. William is called away to a trap which spins Diana on a new quest. Closing all the gates to hell.

The book is filled with worldly descriptions which is both interesting but slows the book down considerably. There were times when the description seemed to go on, but I was ready for what would happen next. It did help at times when you really wanted to get a feel of things, but when it was more of the mundane parts of the book, I just wanted to move a bit quicker.

The other parts I did have trouble with was the mix of 19th century with present times. At times Diana behaved much more boldly that would have been allowed in that time. She seemed to be able to behave with men in a way that I don't believe would be acceptable then but would be chaste now. There were also parts where Yi-Kin, her side-kick, would experience a lot of prejudice. While this made sense, but he still seemed to have found a freedom I'm not sure would exist with Diana being seen as a recent widow. He is also a bit stereotypical of what you might think of as a asian sidekick.

Still with the problems I had it was an interesting ride with Diana figuring out how to close the portals. I especially enjoyed Mina, her cat, who seemed to be a bit wiser than your average feline. I give this book 3 stars. You will have to ignore some of the inconsistencies in the era and her behavior, but if you just want to have fun with a paranormal mash up of religion, faeries, and mythology you might enjoy your time here.
