The year is 2069. Sixteen-year-old Derry and her brother live in perpetual fear of capture. They survive underground on a post-apocalyptic earth overrun by gangs and clones, and hunted overhead by mysterious hoverships. When her brother goes missing, Derry’s only hope of finding him is to strike a deal with a group of cutthroat subversives. Desperate to save her only sibling, she leads a daring raid to uncover the secrets behind the Sweepers’ hoverships, but she soon finds out the world she knows is a lie.

So it wasn't bad, it wasn't great. I felt like I read it before but most YA dystopian books are nearly interchangeable these days.

Cut and paste most of the basics change a few minor details and you basically have the same story with the same character traits and plot lines.

I think Immurement stands a better chance with someone who isn't burned out on these kind of reads.

But as for me I think I might have gotten a little too much of the YA teen angst love angle involving a young heroine who is supposed to be a lot braver and stronger than she actually is who is willing to sacrifice what should be important for a more than obvious compulsive obsession with a boy.

Until next time book lovers...

Girl of Stone
Girl of Stone - Norma Hinkens Girl of Stone - Norma Hinkens Trattora, Velkan, Ayma and Phin have stolen a stealth fighter and are on their way to rescue their parents on the planet of Mhakerta. They are not in the air long before their ship is attacked and they have to land on another planet for repairs on their ship but they find more on the planet than they anticipated and getting away could get them into a whole lot of trouble.

When they do finally reach the planet of Mhakerta they find more there than they were anticipating there as well. They find out that their parents are being held at the NeuroOne processing plant where Preeminence is still extracting the intellect of civilians and without their permission. Trattora, Velkan, Ayma and Phin must come up with a plan to get their parents and everyone else out before it is too late. What the Preeminence is doing to all those people is wrong in so many ways.

Trattora is a young girl with so much on her shoulder and a lot of people counting on her. Trattora is always worrying if she is making the right decisions. She has a great big heart and doesn’t want to hurt anyone or put them in danger. But like everyone else she is learning along the way. But she has some great friends and people that have her back and will stick with her until the end.

I have loved following along with Trattora and her friends on their journey to finding their parents. I really, really, really love the world that Norma has built for Girl of Fire and Girl of Stone. I love the spaceships/stealth fighters and flying through space going where no one has gone before kind of thing and I can’t wait to read more of Trattora, Ayma, Phin, Velken and follow them along on their new adventures.

If you love reading science fiction, dystopian books then you are going to love Girl of Stone but I would suggest that you read Girl of Fire first. Both are filled with so many twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more and when you pick up Girl of Stone plan on being there awhile as you will not want to put it down.

Girl of Fire
Girl of Fire - Norma Hinkens Girl of Fire - Norma Hinkens Trattora lives on the planet Cwelt with her adoptive parents; the chieftain and his wife. Trattora was adopted from traders’ years ago. Although she has always loved and cared very much for her adoptive parents she has always wanted to know who her birth parents were and where she came from. Trattora is the next in line to be leader after her father as chieftain of Cwelt but she has always wanted to have her own ship so that she could travel the universe and explore other planets.

One day a trader ship comes for a visit on Cwelt and is hoping to make a big discovery on the planet that would make them rich. Trattora and her best friend play host to the traders while they are snooping around their planet. Trattora in hopes of one day owning her own ship like the traders and thinks that if the traders find what they are looking for then her dreams may come true.

But before her dreams or the traders are fulfilled Cwelt is attacked which sends all of Trattora’s people in hiding. Trattora and her friend don’t have time to make it to their hiding place so they hop on board the trader’s ship to escape and hope to return one day to save her people.

Trattora’s dreams are finally coming true in a way she is getting to travel on a ship but just not the way she planned. But Trattora is a tough girl and makes the best of the situation that she is dealt. Now Trattora’s plans are to get her own ship, travel around the universe, rescue the people on Cwelt, and find out who her birth parents were but not necessarily in that order.

I will have to say that I have truly loved traveling from planet to planet with Trattora and all her friends. I felt as if I was visiting old friends again myself like Spock and Captain Kirk and flying around on the Enterprise. I enjoyed reading about all the different technology and learning all the words but I would like to have had a list or index to refer to on occasion to help keep my mind refreshed on what their meanings were.

If you like reading science fiction or traveling around the universe or like old shows like Star Trek then I think you are going to love Girl of Fire and its new trilogy The Expulsion Project I know I am. I can’t wait to read more about The Expulsion Project.

Judgement: The Undergrounders Series Book Three (A Young Adult Post-apocalyptic Science Fiction Thriller)
Judgement: The Undergrounders Series Book Three (A Young Adult Post-apocalyptic Science Fiction Thriller) - Norma Hinkens In Judgement Derry and her friends are back and have finally saved everyone from the Sweepers. They have put Craniopolis out of operation and have stopped the Sweepers from extracting people. They are now all living happily and safe in Shoshane City with the riders, the Undergrounders, the clones and everyone else. Well they believe they are safe until they intercept a message that was meant for Craniopolis. They find out that Craniopolis is not the only place that is creating clones. They learn that they may be other places out there like Craniopolis that is experimenting on people. Derry is now very determined to stop the other outposts before they learn that Craniopolis has been put out of commission and they send more Sweepers their way.

While Derry is getting everyone ready for battle she has a lot more problems on the home front that has her upset but there isn’t much she can do about it but just let it be for the moment. Not only does she have to worry about the Sweepers but she also has to deal with the rogues as well. She thought that maybe she and the rogues were even but she soon learns that with rogues that is not the case. Most of them are only out for number one and will kill if that is what it takes to be number one but they are also some good folks that are rogues and they are also some that just like to play fair. The latter may be just what has saved Derry’s butt on occasion.

Is Derry ready for another fight? Are her and her friends capable of fighting so close on the tail end of their last fight with the Sweepers? Well if they want to live then they had better be. Because once they arrive the sweeping will start all up again if they can’t stop them for good this time or so they hope.

The Sweepers won’t know what has hit them when they meet up with Derry for the first time. Derry is a very strong and willed person for someone so young. She is also a very smart person. But she was taught by the best, Big Ed, an Undergrounder like herself. Yeah ole’ Big Ed finds a campion and maybe a little love like Derry and Sven, Owen and Nikki and like some others too. Yeah even clones can fall in love.

I have really and truly loved following Derry, Jerome, Rummy, Sven, Owen, The Ghost and others on their journeys to stop the Sweepers. I have enjoyed learning of their lives as Undergrounders and the traveled along with them on their stay in the city of Shoshane. I love the world that the Norma Hinkens has created for The Undergrounders. It is unlike anything I have read before. I would definitely recommend The Undergrounders Series to anyone who loves a good story. It will leave you wanting more. I would suggest that you start with the first book in the series Immurement and then go on to the next one Embattlement and then Judgement. Yeah you would need to read them in order so that you will know what is going and you want be confused about anything. The Undergrounders is one of those series you would like to see on the big screen.
