Review: Obsidio, Illuminae Files 3
Obsidio - Jay Kristoff,Amie Kaufman

I very much enjoyed this as the end of the trilogy.  We were met with more characters, crazy shenanigans, and a self-aware A.I. that was bonkers, but not really.  This finished out the story very well.  I don't think I have it in me to write a more articulate review.  Just know I liked this very, very much.

Obsidio (The Illuminae Files) - Jay Kristoff,Amie Kaufman

This ending to the series was unfortunately less strong than the other two books for me. I still liked it, but... it didn't strike me as much. Probably because it was harder to get invested in the new characters, after getting to know the previous ones, as they were spread thin throughout the story? While I liked Asha, I just didn't care about Rhys. At all. I cared much more about AIDAN, the murderous, unstable, evolving-yet-at-the-same-time-devolving AI, so that's telling. (But who am I kidding? AIDAN was creepy AF, of course, that was the point, but he also made an excellent villain you can't get rid of because you also need its help, and... I'm sorry to say, but its decisions aren't even illogical, and even though the characters were all shocked at them, they were decisions someone had to make at some point. In a way, AIDAN allowed them to keep their hands somewhat clean, and no one even noticed it.)

Special mention for AIDAN, as evidenced above, and also for Pauchok. When it came to the human characters, Ella was definitely my favourite. I am torn between wishing she had had her romance part as well (as in, it felt that 'romance was only for the main-main characters', which relegates her to the rank of secondary character when in fact she should've been a main one), and glad that she doesn't need to be in a relationship to shine.

I'm also a bit disappointed at the couples and at certain death scenes. The first one because I'd have enjoyed seeing more diversity in the couples, or no couple for a change (like, not necessarily involving a romantic relationship—friendship is a good thing, too). The second because... well, let's say it didn't go as far as it should have.

Still an enjoyable story for me, but weaker than the first two instalments (which I had loved).

“Live a life worth dying for.”

This series went out with a bang! I loved Illuminae, I really liked Gemina, but Obsidio was amazing. All of the original characters are back and play a huge role. We get some new characters, one of which is Kady Grant's cousin, Asha. The action is non stop. The stakes are extremely high. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I highly recommend this series to anyone wanting something a little different. The formatting is unique. The artwork is fun. It has just the right amount of romance and enough shocking moments to make me consider flinging the books across the room on multiple occasions. Thankfully I didn't, I would really hate to ruin that cover art. I'm sad to see this series come to an end, but it was an incredible journey!

Another Fabulous Audiobook Production
Obsidio - Jay Kristoff,Amie Kaufman

4.5 Holy Smokes that was good.
You must read books 1-2 before this one. No spoiler review.
Mesmerizing audiobook read by a full cast with an extensive sound track-amazing. The story was filled with unexpected twists, heartbreak and exhilaration. I felt tired after finishing, like I just went through the trauma with them.
I love this author she develops her characters so completely. I think about them after putting the book down, hope for them, cheer them on, feel the void when one dies. At one point a character died, a selfless death, I teared up while earlier I was inner screaming for their death.
The ending was left with a voice from the past. Could there be another book ? I think so maybe a spin off ? I'd like to see more of this voice's character.
