Cannonball Book Club
Did you vote? The 2018 #CannonBookClub book selection polls have closed, and thankfully there was no Russian interference.   Join in on June 8-9, and  discuss  Octavia Butler's Kindred, one of the highest rated books in CBR history.

Just after Halloween, November 2-3, you can celebrate Cannonball Read's co-founder, Alabama Pink, and discuss "https://cannonballread.com/alabama-pink-book-reviews/">one of the books she reviewed in the very first Cannonball Read, Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson.

You've got 65 and 212 days respectively, so get your hands on these books and get reading. You don't have to be signed up for CBR10 for either of these, all are welcome.

Reading progress update: I've read 269 out of 346 pages.
Parable of the Sower - Octavia E. Butler

sigh. I love it--but it's a book that often makes me very sad, usually after a shock. I've gotten used to the fact that any character could be gone at any time, but Lauren's dream keeps me hopeful for some kind of optimistic ending...though there will be no paradise for these wandering souls. problem is: will I have to see Lauren fail? a great book, but tragic, at times.

Lauren seems to represent the best form of struggle--thoughtful, caring, persevering no matter what--a human could achieve, in a decaying future wasteland. I wonder what's going to happen to her.

Black History Month turned out to be quite an illuminating experience for me this year, as I took to reading some books that I felt celebrated it. and I also saw Black Panther and had a blast, like many. so, I'll close out the month with my second Octavia E. Butler novel, and hope for something special.
