Of my favorite reads 2019, surprisingly few already were on my TBR at the beginning of the year, so the year was at least as much a year of "great new catches" as it was for catching up with my TBR.

A great summary of the background of (inter alia) the background of the Rwanda and Bosnia genocides, as well as a fascinating inside view of those conflicts from the POV of the U.N. in chapter 2, and ditto on Kosovo in chapter 3 -- great follow-up reading to Clea Koff's Bone Woman!

I move to square 23: The Cape-to-Cairo Railway -- read a book set in Africa or by an author from an African country.

Kofi Annan's Interventions: A Life in War and Peace is by an African (Ghanaian) author and covers U.N. peacekeeping missions all over the world, including in several African countries.
