Reading Habits

1. Do you have a certain place in your home for reading?

A.  Not really. Life has gotten so busy that I have simply stopped picking a single place or time for reading. I just try cramming as much of reading as I can in a day, which means I will read on the toilet, in bed, while commuting to and from work, in the time it takes my work PC to become unstuck etc.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

A. Since I received a few of these from Paperback Emporium, Notebookush, and Liberty Books, I have started using them. I am getting better at it not grabbing just anything and using it like a bookmark as I used to do before.

3. Can you  just stop reading or do you have to stop read after a chapter / certain number of pages?

A. No, that is a lie; I can stop whenever I want to. Not wanting to stop is something else altogether.

4. Do you eat or drink while read?

A. If I am reading on the Nook/Kobo, then there is a high possibility that I'd be munching on one thing or sipping on something else.

5. Multitasking: music or TV while reading?

A. Often but it mostly depends on the kind of book I am reading. If things are getting too complicated, then I don't want any distractions.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

A. Either or both. At the moment, this is what my Currently Reading shelf looks like:

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

A. Like I said, anywhere, everywhere!

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

A. I didn't even know when silent reading in the van to and from work turned into me silently mouthing the words. Put together so many people and they are bound to talk but I try picturing how silly I look to discourage myself.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

A. Both, if after repeated attempts, a book will fail to hold my interest.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

A. New, of course!

11. Do you write in your books?

A. Yes but I use a pencil. I'm not a complete monster, y'know?

Reading Habits

1. Do you have a certain place in your home for reading?  Couch.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper? ereader bookmark usually.  Otherwise with print books if I have bookmark handy will use it and if not a random piece of paper (usually shake out magazines for those loose cards).

3. Can you  just stop reading or do you have to stop read after a chapter / certain number of pages?  Huh?  Stop reading before a book is finished without some real life interruption by outside influences?

4. Do you eat or drink while read?  Yes, except sometimes in the really engrossing parts I freeze and do nothing but read.

5. Multitasking: music or TV while reading?  Multi-task.  Music or tv; sometimes computer work ongoing and reading while waiting for some long process to finish.

6. One book at a time or several at once?  Several.  Plus there's always something new that seems interesting, library waitlist priorities, lovely friends loaning something, etc.  Sometimes current book stalls and I put aside to try again later or something gets too intense where I need a break.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?  Everywhere.  Particularly airports and planes during business travels.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?  Silently (unless to kids).

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?  Never (unless checking to see if a familiar seeming book is one I already read).

10. Barking the spine or keeping it like new?  Mostly ebooks but on print books I try to keep like new.

11. Do you write in your books?  Nope, not even text/reference books.  I will use post-its and post-it flags to mark things.  If a tech/reference manual in a three ring binder printed only on one side of the page, I might use the blank backside for notes (more likely to open the rings and add notebook paper).  It's one reason I like ebooks -- the ability to highlight (particularly the B&N Nook Study features) and note without damaging.

Reading Habits

You wanted to know, so have fun :)

1. Do you have a certain place in your home for reading?

In general, I prefer my sofa or my bed, but basically, where there is light, I read.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Random piece of whatever is lying around.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop read after a chapter / certain number of pages?

I prefer finishing a chapter once I started it, but if necessary, any paragraph will do.

4. Do you eat or drink while read?

No food. Sometimes I have coffee or tea next to me, but when I read, I forget about it anyways.

5. Multitasking: music or TV while reading?

Absolute silence!

6. One book at a time or several at once?

Several. The pile always keeps on growing.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Everywhere.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

In my head. I just laugh out loud sometimes.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

No, come on. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

10. Barking the spine or keeping it like new?

My books have to be kept like new. Barking a book’s spine is like breaking my own.

11. Do you write in your books?

No way! Never. That’s what Post-its are for.

Reading Habit Q&A

So, I haven't gotten around to doing it until now but here it is... My Reading Habits Q&A... (I guess that makes me a joiner. I hope that doesn't make me a lemur. Because if you're jumping off a cliff I'm not following... I swear... Really.)

1. Do you have a certain place in your home for reading?

Anywhere I can go that's both quiet and comfortable when I have my nose buried in a book that isn't followed by an interruption or a question of: "watcha doin?"

I'm shaving a cat, what does it look like?

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Bookmarks, stickies, ribbons, ultra-thin book thongs... paper is bad for your books.

3. Can you  just stop reading or do you have to stop read after a chapter / certain number of pages?

I'm in it for the marathon. I hate having to set a book down. If the house is on fire I don't want to be bothered until I'm finished.

4. Do you eat or drink while read?

My books are often accompanied by coffee, carefully savored a safe distance from my slippery fingers.

5. Multitasking: music or TV while reading?

Depends on my mood at the time but I can manage both. However once I'm absorbed into a book I rarely notice anything outside of what's being played in my head.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

The insanity of my TBR pile requires multiple books being juggled and read at the same time.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Forget finding your keys, which book am I going to take? I don't leave the house without a book or my digital reader in my hand. Its not done.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

I read silently and to myself, sharing steam scenes in public from the erotic romance novels I often read would likely result in me being locked away.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

The only time I'm guilty of jumping is either when I'm bored, something is too repetitious or there's an issue I'm having with the author losing their focus.

10. Barking the spine or keeping it like new?

I generally like to keep my books like new if I can help it, unfortunately I tend to buy a lot of used books that have been... stretched to their limits.

11. Do you write in your books?

Are you insane?

And so concludes my Reading Habits Q&A

You can find BL's Q&A post as well as some of the other BL members answers here.
