Off the Rails - Jill Sorenson Off the Rails - Jill Sorenson
Nadine's 3 star rating

Off the Rails is the second book in the Border Patrol Series by Jill Sorenson, and in my opinion you really should read the first book Caught in the Act that way you have the backstory of how Ian and Maria met and what happened while they were together before the beginning of this book....which I unfortunately hadn't. That being said I was able to follow along without a problem but I think having the back story would have given me more as far as the characters relationship and the chemistry between them.

Most of this book took place while riding on "La Bestia" which is a freight train that travels along the coast of Mexico from its southernmost border with Guatemala north to the United States boarder. It was risky and things don't go as easy as either one had hoped it would.

Off the Rails by Jill Sorenson

Maria had entered the US illegally and somehow got tangled up with the Mexican cartel which is how Ian get re-connected with her. Ian is an undercover ICE agent on the trail of a criminal that Maria has ties with and he's hoping that she will lead him to the man in question. Though neither of them can deny the connection they once had and the chemistry that hasn't faltered in the four years they have been apart, he is there to do a job and that is his main focus.

I liked the chemistry between Maria and Ian and again I think I would have felt more connected to them if I had read the first book, that being said I do plan on going back and reading Caught in the Act at some point in the not to distant future.

May-December Romance
Soul Deep: An I-Team After Hours Novella (Volume 2) - Pamela Clare

I almost forgot how much I enjoyed this series, I really need to get back to it and not wait another two years to do it.

Nadine's 4 star rating

If you read Skin Deep then you know Jack, he is Nate's father, and if you've read Striking Distance then you should remember Janet FBI Special Agent Killeen and the fact that Jack threw her off his property while she was helping with the investigation of Laura Nilsson's kidnapping. To say that their encounter this time around was different would be a mild statement.

Soul Deep (I-Team, #6.5) by Pamela Clare

Janet was driving to a resort for some much needed R&R when her car swerves off the road and becomes stuck in the snow, thankfully she is prepared because it takes almost 24 hours before Jack West finds her....she plowed into a fence on the Cimarron Ranch which is the West Family's Ranch. Jack was much friendlier this time around, maybe it was the circumstances in which they met or maybe it was the fact that she was a damsel in distress, either way it was nice to see that he would treat her with respect and care especially after she had been through with being shot.

Soul Deep (I-Team, #6.5) by Pamela Clare

I loved Jack and Janet together and their 18 year age difference didn't factor into anything, it was mentioned a couple of times but it wasn't harped on, but what I loved most was the fact that Jack didn't treat Janet any different because she now needed a cane to assist her in walking he let her do things on her own and only lent a helping hand when she asked for it. I also enjoyed that Nate, Megan, and Emily were in this book and we were able to catch up with the couple and see what changes were happening with them.

This wasn't entirely a love story in fact a major part of the story was about someone shooting Jack's prized stallion right there on the ranch. YIKES! Janet was able to help out in an unofficial capacity with the investigation and she never stepped on any toes she was mindful that this was not her ranch or even her investigation but it was great seeing her back doing a bit of what she loved before she was shot nearly a year earlier.

Texas Bounty Series Book #1
Take Me Deeper: A Texas Bounty Novel - Jackie Ashenden
Take Me Deeper (Texas Bounty, #1) by Jackie Ashenden

Take Me Deeper is the first book in a new series by Jackie Ashenden called Texas Bounty and as you can guess by the name of the series it is about Bounty hunters....and holy hell is it hot!

Zane is back in Texas to help his brothers (Quinn and Rush) run the family business "Lone Star Bounty" but he is only staying for one month and then he is heading back to the Army and his Special Forces team. Quinn makes Zane promise to complete this one job before he can even begin to start thinking of leaving...but Zane had no idea that this one job would change his life.

Iris is on the run after her good-for-nothing ex-boyfriend got her involved with transporting drugs for the cartel and she was arrested. Now Iris is looking over her shoulders for the cartel and the police, and neither can find her because one will kill her and the other will lock her up until she testifies.

When Zane finally catches up with Iris things really start to get interesting!
Take Me Deeper (Texas Bounty, #1) by Jackie AshendenI enjoyed the chemistry between Zane an Iris and I was a bit skeptical on how things would work out between them, I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised with the ending of their story.

I look forward to reading more of this series but I have to be honest that I cannot wait for Quinn's story! I really hope it plays out the way I'm hoping it does. ;)

Excerpt

Phoenix slams the door shut behind her and immediately turns around and barges toward me just so he can lock me in his arms and twirl me around.

“Yes! Viva Las Vegas, baby!” I yell, grinning like mad.

“You happy, princess?” he asks as he lowers me to the ground again, still holding me close.

“I love it …” I muse. “It’s exactly what I wanted. How I pictured us together.”

The lopsided smile on his face makes me lick my lips, and he grabs my chin and inches closer.

“C’mere, sweet cheeks.” He smashes his lips onto mine with full fervor, not sparing even a second to breathe. Every time he kisses me, I feel like I can live forever, and now that we have this house, the home of my dreams, together … it just feels like I can finally live my happy forever after.

“It’s a big home,” I murmur as our lips unlock.

“Maybe we should have a housewarming party,” he says, wriggling his eyebrows.

“Housewarming?” I frown. “We don’t have any f … Oh …” Finally, I get what he means.

He grins, and his tongue dips out to lick his lips as he growls. “Oh, yes, princess. Time to get the chains out.”

He kisses my chin and runs his tongue all the way down my neck, and I moan softly from his touch.

“Where do you want it, princess?” he whispers against my skin. “We can do it everywhere … in the kitchen. On the table. On the stairs. Or maybe against the wall.” He picks me up below the hips and pushes me up against the wall.

“We have all the time in the world,” I say. “Why not everywhere?”

“Good thinking.” He grins.

“Not a lot of furniture to use for fucking, though,” I add. “It’s still so empty.”

“We’ll go shopping tomorrow,” he growls, pressing his lips between my breasts.

“I don’t mean just that. I mean … this house … it has so many rooms. What will we do with them?”

“You wanna worry about that now?” he growls as he rips down his zipper. “While I’m on the verge of fucking your pussy raw?”

“I wanna know what you’re thinking,” I reply. “What we’re gonna do now that we finally have a place to call home.”

“What do you mean?” he says, stalling in the middle of pulling down his pants.

“I don’t know. I mean it’s an awfully big home to fill up with just the two of us.”

He tilts his head back, his eyebrows drawing together. “What are you saying, princess? Are you seriously thinking …”

“What?” I shrug.

“No …” Phoenix shakes his head.

“You don’t want …”

“Us? A baby?” He laughs, and with the face he’s making, he has me laughing too. “Stop making silly jokes, princess. You know we aren’t cut out for that shit. Next thing you know, someone’s calling us Mommy and Daddy. I’m not that old.”

Closing my eyes, I shake my head. “You’re right. I don’t even know why I thought of it.” Probably because people always say you should start a family before you can be happy. But who am I kidding? Me, a mother? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

“We’re together … on our own … and no one’s gonna tear us apart. I’d say that’s reason enough to celebrate.” He grins against my lips and his hands suddenly grip my hips, jerking down my pants. “Now … where were we?”

The best Mafia Romance that I have read in a very, very long time
Nico: A Mafia Romance (Ruin & Revenge) - Sarah Castille

This has to be the best Mafia Romance that I have read in a very, very long time. The way this story was written pulled me in and made me feel as if I was part of the famiglia.

Nico (Ruin & Revenge, #1) by Sarah Castille

Nico Toscani watched as his unarmed father was killed in cold blood and vowed to avenge his death, fast forward ten years and this is where the story starts. Mia Cordano is the daughter of Don Cordano, the person that Nico want's dead for murdering his father, Mia is anything but the typical Mafia Princess. Mia owns her own business, goes against everything her father says, and it a total goth girl...no Chanel or Prada dresses for her she is into black, lace, chains, and Doc Martens are her choice of shoes.

Nico (Ruin & Revenge, #1) by Sarah Castille

There is so much going on in this story that it was easy to be pulled into the underbelly of the Las Vegas Mafia. We have rival families at war, trying to broker a truce by an arraigned marriage, being infiltrated by undercover agents, and oh so much more. But the true heart of the story is Nico and Mia, two people that shouldn't have anything to do with one another but yet can't stay away.

Nico (Ruin & Revenge, #1) by Sarah Castille

I loved "Mr. Mob Boss" Nico, he was a complex man but at the root of it all he was deeply loyal and devastatingly charming. He wanted to remain true to old school Mafia and didn't want anything to do with drug, sex trafficking, or anything else the new school of Mafia was into. Mia is a strong female character, she has been through a LOT but she still remains true to herself despite all of the crap she gets from her father.

Nico (Ruin & Revenge, #1) by Sarah Castille

There were so many twists and turns in this story, some I was able to figure out pretty early on but others came out of no where and shocked me, but there was one thing that I needed more of and I am hoping these two people pop up somewhere in the series so we know what happens with them. I cannot say enough good things about this book and I am thrilled that it's a series and I cannot wait for Luca! If you enjoy a good Mafia romance this is the book you want to read, you will not be disappointed!
