5 Star Siege
Sergeant's Christmas Siege - Megan Crane

She’s a straight-arrow, by-the-rules Alaskan State trooper so Kate Holiday’s objective when it comes to investigating a local band of secretive commandos in remote Grizzly Harbor is clear – disband Alaska Force and arrest them, but she didn’t count on the diabolical temptation of Templeton Cross. He’s always been good at keeping his game face on and his emotions hidden, but working with Kate brings memories of losses, Templeton prefers to keep locked up tight. With pressure mounting and Christmas drawing closer, it’s a given that someone is going to get hurt.

This ‘Alaska Force’ romance is a slow burn romance that requires a lot of hard work as both parties are determined not to give in to their emotions, the electrical chemistry or the heat building up between them, but it seems the more they fight it, the harder they will fall. These strong, vibrant characters captures hearts and provides a delightfully entertaining courtship that makes readers chuckle. Lots of emotions – not matter how much the hero and heroine try to keep them locked down – flow the pages as Templeton and Kate try to uncover who is behind some mysterious incidents that surround the Alaska Force.

The plot is fast paced and full exciting events and snaky commentary that builds thrilling suspense and adrenaline pumping excitement through the story which keeps readers on the edge of their seat from beginning to end. Some ‘What the… twists and turns keeps readers guessing and a hero that spends his time trying to convince his careful, wary trooper that there is more to the holidays makes readers hold on tight to this intense, satisfying and entertaining holiday read.

book blurb

The Sergeant

“You’re the only one I want to control. The only one whose submission I want, need, and crave with every part of me, every second of every day.”

– Sergeant Logan Pierce

Sergeant Logan Pierce: Head of Houston’s elite SWAT team. He leads his squad with cool efficiency, taking down rough criminals while keeping his team safe. But behind closed doors he sets a darker part of himself free. He’s a Dominant in the world of Bondage and Domination. As a Dom, he’s controlled many submissives, but never had one for his own. That’s because there’s only one man he wants: Corporal Clay Foster.

Corporal Clay Foster: Highly trained SWAT officer. He’s always the first one to face the dangerous situations of their job. Over the years he’d noticed his Sergeant’s secretly admiring glances and suspected his attraction. One night, with one kiss, he’s proven correct. Clay dives headlong into the rough passion of BDSM that Logan introduces him to. He submits to Logan’s control, accepting the sweet shackles that bind him to his Sergeant. But secrets, both his and Logan’s, force him to leave the newfound safety of his Dom’s arms.

Logan refuses to let go of what he’s wanted for so long, Clay as his own, proudly wearing his collar. Clay wants to be his. He knows it and Clay knows it too. Can Logan safely guide Clay through the obstacles that separate them until he can claim his submissive once more?

The Sergeant is Book One in the Cuffs, Collars, and Love series. If you love romance that is epic, emotional and erotic, you’ll want to give this series a read!
excerpt
Two weeks had passed since Clay walked out of Logan’s office in a rage. They’d continued to work together, managing to do so well. They kept to their word this time and put their personal stuff on hold while at work. Except for tonight. Tonight was different.

The team had taken one of the large unmarked SUVs for this operation. On the ride back, Clay was seated next to Logan. Without meaning to, Clay looked over and made eye contact with Logan. Once he had, he found it difficult to look away. They ignored the conversations of the others in the vehicle with them as they gazed at each other, while the two feet separating them felt like nothing. Logan’s eyes dropped to his mouth. Out of habit, Clay bit his lip. Logan’s eyes flashed back to his. Even in the semi-darkness of the truck, Clay could see that there was heat in that gaze. Hot sexual heat. Clay didn’t have to be a mind reader to tell what Logan was thinking. He was thinking of touches and kisses and bodies coming together. Clay’s breathing shallowed, his skin prickled with anticipation. He saw a muscle tense in Logan’s jaw and realized he was holding himself back. Clay cursed under his breath and turned to stare out the window for the rest of the ride.

That was stupid of him. He knew Logan would take what had just happened as encouragement. And he was right. Inside the station, Logan casually stood outside his office door, talking to their team members as they passed. But when Clay came abreast of him, Logan’s hand closed over his wrist before he could pass. Clay stopped and turned. He pulled his arm out of Logan’s hold, both for appearances sake and because he couldn’t take Logan touching him, holding him in his firm grip. It made him think of other times … of Logan holding him down, restraining him while he--

Clay forced himself to put that out of his head.

The Detective's Pleasure

“You’ll kneel for me without me having to tell you to. And when you do, you’ll feel so much better. Trust me.”

- Detective Sam Roberts

Officer Ryan Bennett: Ambitious and smart, Ryan Bennett is a young officer on Houston’s police force. He’s pursuing his dream of being promoted to the city’s elite SWAT team with a single mindedness that won’t accept any outcome but success. But that isn’t his only dream. Ryan wants more than a coveted position on SWAT. He wants to be owned by a strong Dominant. To give himself up to a Dom who will make him shudder with pleasure beneath a firm yet loving hand. Unfortunately, Ryan has had nothing but failure in that part of his life. Now, he’s hidden that dream away from everyone, including himself. And he refuses to let anyone close enough to see what he truly desires, and who he truly is.

Detective Sam Roberts: Cool and calm, Detective Sam Roberts is good at reading people, during the day as a detective and at night as a Dom. He easily sees past the hard layer of arrogance surrounding Officer Ryan Bennett to the hurt submissive hiding beneath. He wants to help Ryan, even though the stubborn young man resists him. But Sam isn’t one to back down from a challenge. He’s determined to help Ryan embrace the soft, giving nature of his submissive side. Using both a gentle hand and the sting of the whip, he’ll work to coax Ryan’s submission free. But what will Sam do if he’s successful? Let Ryan go as promised? Or give the young officer the very thing he’s wanted for so long?
Ryan blinked. “Did I do something wrong?”

Sam sat on the bed near Ryan's head. “No, you didn't. That felt good and I'd love to feel more of it.”

Ryan frowned in confusion. “Then why'd you pull away?”

“Because you're not ready for this.”

Heat rushed through him, but now, it was from anger, rather than arousal. “What the fuck, Roberts? I'm not here to play games!”

Sam gently stroked a hand up his arm. “Neither am I.”

He jerked away from Sam’s touch as much as the ropes would allow. “Then why do you keep playing them?”

“You think I'm playing games because you're impatient and you don't want to listen to what your Dominant is telling you.”

“Damn right, I'm impatient, Roberts! I told you I wanted to play.”

Ryan’s eyes widened as Sam moved with surprising speed. He climbed back on the bed to straddle his waist, squeezing his sides with his thighs. A sharply pained cry was startled from him as Sam pinched his already abused nipples between tightly clenched fingers. He was about to demand that Sam let him go, but the other man spoke first.

“First of all, I told you to stop calling me Roberts. You will call me Sam or Sir. I don't ever want to hear my last name out of your mouth again, do you understand?”

Ryan’s face was hot with anger, his eyes burning with tears he refused to shed, but he nodded.

“Good.” Sam eased up on the pinch he had on Ryan's nipples. “Second. You are the submissive. You don't tell me what you want to do unless I ask. I decide what we do. And if I decide that what we need is to sit next to each other and talk, or for you to be tied up while I ask you questions, then that's what we'll do.” He increased the pressure again, making Ryan’s torso jerk up at the sting. “You'll get my cock in your mouth or in your ass when I decide you're ready for it. Not when you demand it. Is that understood?”

Ryan’s answer was a yes whispered through clenched teeth. Sam released his grip to rub his palms softly over the abused skin.

“I'm going to untie you and you'll stay here with me for a few minutes.”

His jaw clenched hard to hold back all the curses he wanted to spew, Ryan waited silently while Sam untied the ropes. Once he was free, he sat up, rubbing his wrists. “How long do I have to sit here?”

Sam smirked. “At least until your erection has gone down.”

Another flush crawled up Ryan's neck at that comment, but he didn't respond. Sam rejoined him on the bed. He put an arm around his shoulders and pulled him up against him. Ryan sat there stiffly, refusing to give Sam the satisfaction of relaxing against him. Sam persisted, however, caressing his arm in long, slow strokes, occasionally moving up to rub the back of his neck or slide a hand into his hair. Eventually, he pressed a kiss to his temple.

“You can go now if you'd like.”

Ryan hesitated for a moment before he moved to get off the bed. Unsure what to say, he kept his eyes fixed on the floor as he pulled on his clothes. But he could feel Sam’s eyes on him the whole time. When he was dressed, he finally looked at Sam again. He sat there on the bed, his dark hair rumpled, chest and feet bare, jeans still unzipped. He looked nice and relaxed, which irritated Ryan even more than he already was. He didn’t bother to keep that irritation out of his voice as he asked a question before leaving.

“Let me guess. I'm supposed to abstain from masturbation until you give me permission?”

Sam shook his head. “Nope. You can jerk off all you want. But you won’t be getting any orgasms from me until you give me what I'm looking for.”

Cruel Mercy (Detective Sergeant McAvoy) - David Mark

This is the third book by David Mark that I have read. I went back and checked some of my past reviews and I found one thing in common. He likes to start off his books coming out of left field. You start reading and you have absolutely no idea what in the heck you are reading about. This I can truthfully say. Because this is the third book and the third time this has happened. Ha!

So, I will alert you that you should read the first part, put it in a file in the back of your mind, because it will be explained to you later on in the book. Then there will be a little light bulb over your head and you will say Aha, that's what that was.

At first I was like, what in the heck is this Pentinent dude or thing - that will be explained.

I think DS McAvoy is one of the most bumbling detectives out there. He's so big that every one is scared of him. Little do they know, he's probably just as scared. There are some pretty good laughs in this one. It's also pretty gory, creepy, full of mobsters, lots of killing, boxers, perverts, and weirdos. It will definitely keep you on your toes trying to figure out what happened to the three boxers that came to the U.S. from Ireland. One of which is related to McAvoy's wife and is the reason he is there, looking for him.

Poor McAvoy does end up in the wrong places at the wrong time sometimes as well as those boxers. This was a great book and I am glad that I got the chance to read it.

Thanks to Penguin Group for approving my request and to Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.

The Sergeant's Apprentice
The Sergeant's Apprentice - Christopher ... The Sergeant's Apprentice - Christopher G. Nuttall This is another great book in the Schooled in Magic series of books. Emily is back in her own time in the Allied Lands yet for most of the book it is another change of scenery for Emily. As the book blurb states the Nameless World goes to war and, of course, Emily is on the front lines. I rarely give a 10 out of 10 star rating and it is almost unheard of that I give it to two books in the same series straight after one another but, although I think I liked Paste Tense just a tad better, this book definitely deserves a 10 out of 10 rating.

Emily and Sergeant Miles travels to a free city on the edge of the Allied Lands where the necromancer has chosen to attack. Unfortunately for Emily she not only has to fight the necromancer and his horde of Orcs and twisted humans but also the usual political bickering and stupidity among the aristocrats, old traditions and a traitor amidst their ranks. It always surprises me how many people are willing to put their greed and their own twisted desires ahead of the well being and even existence of their own society…in books as well as in real life.

The book is, as usual, well written with great characters, a good plot with lots of suspension as well as plenty of action. Although the main cause of Emily’s, and the Allied Lands’, predicament is the necromancer, they take quite a beating from the treacherous acts of the traitor in their midst. Luckily he gets what he deserves in the end, or rather a few chapters before the end. The end? Well the book more or less ends with a spectacular showdown between Emily, some of her friends, and the necromancer (or should I say the necromancers, you have to read the book to see what I mean).

This was a great read for me and I could put the book down only with great difficulty. I can hardly wait to see where Emily’s adventures leads us next.
