Break Me Down by Roni Loren
Break Me Down - Roni Loren

♥ ♥ ♥ 3.75 STARS ♥ ♥ ♥

'He couldn't give her what she most wanted, couldn't be the kind of sub she could have by her side at the Ranch, but maybe he could at least give her this. His body was hers to use however she wanted tonight.'

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Sam has never really gotten over Gibson after all this time. She has tried, but the heart wants what it wants. Sam knows Gibson because he trained her on how to be a domme. Sam never expected herself to fall for him during those training sessions. When Gibson found out he quickly put an end to it all. He will never be what Sam craves, a submissive.

'Her grin was wicked as she raised her arm to wield the belt, her fierce beauty absolute. And he knew he was fucking done.
He agreed to a week.
He may not survive it.
But he'd die with a smile on his face.'

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

Time goes by when they finally see each other again. Gibson shows up with mutual friends at the bar Sam works at. He still tried to avoid her despite the need he feels when he is near her. Sam feels the same way. When Sam gets attacked, she is shaken by the event, and runs off for some solitude. Gibson finds out and goes after her. He knows the last thing she needs is to be alone, so he is determined to stay by her side until he is sure she is okay. What ends up happening is an arrangement. He can stay if he will be hers for one week, where he will submit to her.

This was the first book I have read where the dominant in this bdsm relationship is a woman. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it, but I'm glad to say that I really enjoyed it. Sam was a likable character and she did really great for herself despite her horrible upbringing in foster care. I also really liked Gibson and he was a great character despite also having a not so great childhood. However, it did affect him in not wanting to be a submissive. I loved how he cared about Sam and that he would do something that made him uncomfortable and unsure just to make sure she was okay. His feelings for her ran deep and it showed, except for when he was didn't want to accept how he was. I liked the dynamic and the chemistry between them. It was all kinds of hot, and not once did Gibson seem emasculated by being submissive.

"See how beautifully intense you are in submission. Seeing you like that makes me want to thank the universe that you exist, that there's someone else who gets it. It makes me want to parade you around the Ranch and show you off because of how fucking lucky I'd be to have a man like you."

This is a novella, so, their story did begin before the book began, but it actually worked. I almost didn't even need to see any scenes of them in the past. Even though it was a short read I was able to connect with them. It was very well developed and you could feel the relationship between them grow. It never felt like I was reading a novella. The sex scenes were definitely hot but not for everyone. There was talk about rape fantasies and such that may make it difficult for some to enjoy. There were some emotional parts in this one so it wasn't all just sex, and a bit of angst that kept things interesting. Overall, I found this to be a really great read.

You're It: A TAG Novella by Shari J. Ryan
You're It (A Tag Novella) - Shari J. Ryan

♥ ♥ ♥ 3.5 STARS ♥ ♥ ♥

If you have already read TAG, then you are already familiar with Cali and Tango. This book takes place four years after the last book ended. Everything seems to be going well for them. Thanks to the injection Tango had, his health seems to be very good as well. Suddenly someone wants their daughter Tyler for testing, to see if the injection Tango took had any affect on her when she was conceived. There is no way Cali and Tango will let anything be done to their daughter. They will fight whoever they have to to protect her.

“Know everyone. Trust no one,” he warns me.

“Except me,” Tango pipes in. “She promised to trust me.”

“You she can trust, son. You're the only man I will ever trust too. You are the exception. You're it.”

Cali and Tango are total bad-ass parents. I loved them in the first book and enjoyed the connection that they shared. In this book, you still get that connection. The sexual chemistry between them was pretty hot. It was great seeing how parenthood changed them a bit. They no longer only had to care for themselves but for their daughter, too. It was cool having Tango's friend Jag come in to help them out. I really liked him. My only complaint would be that I would have liked some more action scenes and that it would have been a little longer. Other than that, it was great catching up with Cali and Tango again.

“You were my best friend for a reason. I loved you way before we ever touched each other. And I thought that was enough, had accepted that it's all we could ever be. But then when things changed, I got a taste of how much more might be there, and I was a goddamned goner.”

Hunter is going to get married very soon a woman he cares about, but doesn't love. As the date of their nuptials is quickly approaching, Hunter starts to feel trapped. When his fiancée sees his reaction, she suggests he take a trip to a spa in Dallas to relieve the stress. She also suggests that since he still has no best man, that he should look up his college best friend Devon, and see if he can do it. The last person he needed to see was Devon, but when he arrived in Dallas that seemed to be the only thing he wanted to do. Devon is no longer the purple streaked gay boy from his fraternity, he is now doing well as a restaurant owner. Devon never thought he would ever see Hunter again, and never did he think he would be asked to be part of Hunter's wedding. There is so much unresolved tension between them. This inevitably makes them think of all they went through together in college.

“We've waited long enough. I'm all yours---however you want me.”

This was my first book from this author, and from this novella, it was not bad at all. For it being a short read, I was so happy that I was still able to connect with both of the characters. I really appreciated the fact that we got flashbacks of their frat days so that we could see how their friendship began, and how it turned into so much more. I loved Devon, and how he didn't care what anyone thought of him as he was openly gay. Hunter did make me more frustrated by some of his decisions. But I did understand that he must have been really confused, since he had never felt anything for any man until Devon. I very much loved the growing chemistry between them that made the steam oh, so wonderfully hot.

'Hunter wouldn't let go again.
He'd found his home.
He was free.'

Overall, I thought it was a really great novella. I am definitely going to be checking out more books from this author. I enjoyed this steamy little read, and I enjoyed the characters. The only thing I can say I didn't like too much, was how quickly Devon and Hunter seemed to make up in the present. I also would have liked a bit more of them in the present to see how it all worked out for them. But, I was happy for their ending. I just didn't want it to end. Definitely a good read and one I would recommend you give a try.

Review: Angel Fallen by Jennifer Leighton
Angel Fallen - Jennifer Leighton

♥♥♥ 3 STARS ♥♥♥

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

'He longed to touch her as he'd seen her lovers do, and to somehow mark her as his so no other man would ever touch her again. They were selfish thoughts, and he knew he should feel guilty for having them, but he didn't.'

Jessie gets the shock of her life when she finds out the truth and sees Garon in the flesh.

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

“It's real, Jessie. Do you feel that? That's my heart beating. It beats for you, beloved. I am real.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

This was good steamy quick read. I really enjoyed the fallen angel aspect of this story, something I have liked from other books in the past. I really liked Garon and the lengths he went to protect Jessie, the woman he loves. One thing I wasn't too fond of was that their story had begun before this book started. So there was no real build up in the relationship, something I would have wanted to see. Because of that, I couldn't completely feel a connection between them on an emotional level. However, there was a great sexual chemistry between the characters. The steam in this book was crazy hot, as an erotica book should be. I very much liked how those scenes were written. I thought it was very interesting reading how Garon tried to adjust to human life.

Overall, I thought it was a good debut erotic novel. I may have needed more story to it, but the steam was definitely high.

It was then I discovered the worst horror of all – my kindle was dead.

“Nooooo!!!!!!” I screamed. “This can’t be happening. Oh, shit, Shane, I’ve got nothing to read. We have to get out of here!”

Shane lay next to me and wrapped me in his arms. “You can live one night without your kindle.”

Does this bastard know me at all? “I can’t Shane, I really can’t.”

Loved this short little Halloween read. I had missed Shane and Mason's crazy banter. And of course I enjoyed all the antics, which had me giggling out loud. I did now expect Twyla to be in this little story, but once she showed up, I laughed hard. I truly enjoyed all the creepy and steamy scenes in this book. It was a wonderful Halloween short. I am hoping that this is not the end of Shane and Mason, and that one day we will get more of them. *fingers crossed*
