Pretty Lost Dolls ~ Ker Dukey & K. Webster
Pretty Lost Dolls - K. Webster,Ker Dukey
Pretty Lost Dolls picks up right where Pretty Stolen Dolls left off; with the help of Macy, Jade finds herself back in her cell. But this time Jade isn’t the scared little girl she once was… She is a detective, trained, ruthless, and she was getting out alive once and for all.

Benny doesn't have little Jade.
He has Detective Jade Phillips.
The department's most ruthless cop.
A b*tch.
A rumored dike.
A f*cking nightmare.

I still feel aghast at myself for rating a book with Ker Dukey 4 stars (Pretty Stolen Dolls) but the first installment lost my interest because I didn’t quite connect with Jade. This installment still kind of went that way- BUT Benny’s backstory and Macy’s unraveling took the plot and action through the roof! This is what I’m talking about! Whoa! *this was intense*

Jade, as a character, I still find wishy-washy- and it was hard for me to empathize with her point of view. She is not a compassionate person in my opinion. With Benny showing vulnerability I would have expected her to feel some sort of Stockholm syndrome towards him but nope- she was almost robotic. I must escape. I hate him.

Okay, now onto the plot- did I say it was intense? OMG I could not put this down. This was darker, grittier, and more captivating than the first book. There wasn’t a dull moment- just nonstop twists, revelations, and action. We finally learn more about Benny and how he came to be- which is dark and f’ed up in itself. And Macy- she takes creepy doll to a new level. Wanna play a game?

Dirty Little Doll,
You are invited to a tea party.
Dress pretty and don't be late!
XOXO,
Broken Little Doll

Now. I know this can’t be the end. With the Empathy series we got some novellas. To make this convenient I have provided the authors with a list of novellas I would like:
• Macy’s point of view
• The future novella with a character introduced at the end
• Benny’s full story
• A Bethany’s point of view

Please. Please. Don’t make me beg!

5 stars hands down xx

Pretty Stolen Dolls ~ Ker Dukey & K. Webster
Pretty Stolen Dolls - Ker Dukey,K. Webster

It is an anxious, sometimes a dangerous thing to be a doll. Dolls cannot choose; they can only be chosen; they cannot 'do'; they can only be done by. ~ Rumer Godden

Sisters Jade and Macy Phillips disappeared without a trace as preteens. Where most girls were discovering make-up and reading Teen Vogue, the Phillips sisters lived in the basement dungeon of a demented man named Benjamin or “Benny.” Benny loved to dress his dolls up in frilly dresses and use them for his sadistic games but when one doll escapes he will do anything to get her back…

8 years after escaping Jade cannot get over what happened to her in Benny’s basement. She is determined to find her sister and bring justice where it’s due. As a successful detective she has been waiting for a lead for years- never giving up. When Benny comes back to haunt her she enters a powerful cat and mouse game.

Such a pretty little doll...

A quarter of the way through Jade reminded me a lot of Mariska Hargitay- she was determined, self-assured, and on top of every new lead or case that came in resembling hers. A woman with a mission and no time for silly emotions. Towards the end however I felt Jade’s character becoming more and more unlikable to me- she became whiny, careless, and seemed to lose any sense of professionalism that drew me into her character in the beginning. *sigh* Maybe it’s just me…

Overall, the plot was amazing and something entirely new to me. I loved the mix of suspense, SVU –esque mystery, and the whole creepy concept of the dolls. ACKK they’re so creepy!

The end had a major twist and revelation which I wish would have maybe happened sooner- my interest dipped for a while during the middle. I did have to go back and re-read several passages to understand what happened but I was definitely surprised! Now I have to get my hands on book two to find out what happens next!

REVIEW: The Fall Up by Aly Martinez
The Fall Up - Aly Martinez

♥ ♥ ♥ 3 STARS ♥ ♥ ♥

I must be in a funk or something. I am so upset that I didn't love this one as much as everyone else did. I really liked the start of this. Loved the banter between Sam and Levee. I even really liked their sexual chemistry. But, for some reason, I started to slowly lose interest and I have no freaking idea why. I loved Aly Martinez's On The Ropes series, but this one just didn't completely do it for me. I guess I just couldn't connect with the characters or story maybe, even though I did like them. The story was okay, but I just didn't feel it emotionally like I would have liked considering what it was about. I don't know what happened. I liked the book, but I unfortunately did not love it. I hope I will love Henry's book better.

Wasn't a bad read, but it wasn't a great one either, at least to me. The story line itself was pretty unique. I enjoyed it in the beginning and thought it was very interesting, but the middle to near the end just dragged on way too much for me that it was hard to keep interest. I also didn't care for the way he treated her sometimes. But the flashbacks were awesome. I loved those and all those sweet moments were really great.

The steam was really hot, but I did think there was a bit too much of it. I know..."how could there possibly be such a thing?", well there is. It seemed like there were doing too much of that instead of figuring out solutions or finding answers.

The ending itself was pretty good until the freaking cliffhanger happened. I might have to read the next book to find out what exactly it is she found out. I'm really curious about it.

Break Me Down by Roni Loren
Break Me Down - Roni Loren

'He couldn't give her what she most wanted, couldn't be the kind of sub she could have by her side at the Ranch, but maybe he could at least give her this. His body was hers to use however she wanted tonight.'

Sam has never really gotten over Gibson after all this time. She has tried, but the heart wants what it wants. Sam knows Gibson because he trained her on how to be a domme. Sam never expected herself to fall for him during those training sessions. When Gibson found out he quickly put an end to it all. He will never be what Sam craves, a submissive.

'Her grin was wicked as she raised her arm to wield the belt, her fierce beauty absolute. And he knew he was fucking done.
He agreed to a week.
He may not survive it.
But he'd die with a smile on his face.'

Time goes by when they finally see each other again. Gibson shows up with mutual friends at the bar Sam works at. He still tried to avoid her despite the need he feels when he is near her. Sam feels the same way. When Sam gets attacked, she is shaken by the event, and runs off for some solitude. Gibson finds out and goes after her. He knows the last thing she needs is to be alone, so he is determined to stay by her side until he is sure she is okay. What ends up happening is an arrangement. He can stay if he will be hers for one week, where he will submit to her.

This was the first book I have read where the dominant in this bdsm relationship is a woman. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it, but I'm glad to say that I really enjoyed it. Sam was a likable character and she did really great for herself despite her horrible upbringing in foster care. I also really liked Gibson and he was a great character despite also having a not so great childhood. However, it did affect him in not wanting to be a submissive. I loved how he cared about Sam and that he would do something that made him uncomfortable and unsure just to make sure she was okay. His feelings for her ran deep and it showed, except for when he was didn't want to accept how he was. I liked the dynamic and the chemistry between them. It was all kinds of hot, and not once did Gibson seem emasculated by being submissive.

"See how beautifully intense you are in submission. Seeing you like that makes me want to thank the universe that you exist, that there's someone else who gets it. It makes me want to parade you around the Ranch and show you off because of how fucking lucky I'd be to have a man like you."

This is a novella, so, their story did begin before the book began, but it actually worked. I almost didn't even need to see any scenes of them in the past. Even though it was a short read I was able to connect with them. It was very well developed and you could feel the relationship between them grow. It never felt like I was reading a novella. The sex scenes were definitely hot but not for everyone. There was talk about rape fantasies and such that may make it difficult for some to enjoy. There were some emotional parts in this one so it wasn't all just sex, and a bit of angst that kept things interesting. Overall, I found this to be a really great read.
