The Roll-Away Pumpkin - Junia Wonders,Daniela Volpari

A very cute story, similar to the The Gingerbread Man.

I absolutely loved the illustration style. The pictures were beautiful and very detailed.

I also enjoyed the creative thinking of the main character and her ability to turn a bad situation into something that benefited everyone.

My one teeny, tiny critique was the way the male characters are described by their profession (farmer, baker, butcher, milkman), while the woman at the end is described by her appearance ("a plump lady"). Who is she? A chef? A supervisor? We never find out. Her one quality is her plumpness.

Other than that, I enjoyed the story. A very cute children's book.

Bingo card additions
The Yellow Wallpaper - Charlotte Perkins Gilman,Dawn Harvey
Cujo - Stephen King,Simon & Schuster Audio,Lorna Raver
The Roll-Away Pumpkin - Junia Wonders,Daniela Volpari

I keep filling that bingo card a bit randomly..

The Yellow Wallpaper - Charlotte Perkins Gilman,Dawn Harvey

I came across a different narration of the yellow wallpaper and I loved it. The narrator's voice nailed the creepy factor and even though I knew the story I loved every minute of it. Here is my original review of the story.

Cujo - Stephen King,Lorna Raver,Simon & Schuster Audio

I first read Cujo when I was 13 or 14 I don't remember very well. What I do remember however was the nightmares that book gave me. I cannot look at a Saint Bernard dog and not get the chills. To this day it's one of the scariest books I have ever read and for the sake of the bingo I re-visited that book and purchased the audiobook. It's still scary but not as scary as I remember it. The narrator was rather good too, I must add.

This is a cute little story about a girl that chases her pumpkin with gorgeous illustrations!

Pumpkin Roll (Culinary Murder Mysteries Series #6)
Pumpkin Roll - Josi S. Kilpack I've thoroughly enjoyed the Sadie Hoffmiller culinary mysteries. I love that they're full of recipes, which I have tried and found delicious, by the way. I love that Sadie is a middle-aged woman who is full of life and doesn't let her age slow her down. I love that she's not a weak character. I love that she takes charge and doesn't back down when she shouldn't.

I really enjoyed the story on this one. It was fun to get out of Colorado once again and hit up Boston. I wondered how Sadie would do in a big city, and she rocked it, of course! There was danger, creepiness, good intentions, and mayhem. Oh Sadie. Only you can get into so much trouble in such a short time!

Anyone who enjoys culinary fiction will get a kick out of the Sadie books. They're fun and easy to get through. The recipes are fantastic and easy too. Go ahead, give this book a shot!

I'm giving it a 'Pick Me' rating for just keeping a good thing going.

Pumpkin Roll (Culinary Mysteries (Shadow Mountain))
Pumpkin Roll - Josi S. Kilpack Don't ask me how I have gone so long without reading one of Josi Kilpack's culinary mysteries, but I have obviously been missing out on all the fun. Pumpkin Roll is absolutely perfect for Fall and Halloween! Set in Jamaica Plain, a small township of Boston it is close to heart of the Salem Witch Trials. Things get spooky fast for Sadie and boyfriend Pete who are on vacation together while watching Pete's grandchildren. Between light bulbs exploding, strange faces in the window, night time visitors and the witch across the street who is always digging in her yard, Sadie is sure there's a mystery to be unraveled. In her nosy neighbor way she offers a plate of cookies to Mrs. Wapple and is determined to figure out why she's so strange. But danger lurks around the fence!

With mouthwatering recipes for cookies, whoopie pies, clam chowder and cinnamon twists, Pumpkin Roll is one you don't want to read while hungry! Sadie will have you itching to bake and trying to put together all the little clues behind this who done it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all readers as a must have before Halloween. The atmospheric creepy tone is topped off with lots of comfort foods for a perfect combination. Now that I've discovered The Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery Series I can't wait for Banana Split coming in Spring 2012. Thanks so much to Deseret Book for sending me Pumpkin Roll!
