My rating: 4 of 5 stars
4.5 stars!
To All The Boys I've Loved Before tells the story of Lara Jean,a girl who doesn't openly admit her crushes, instead she writes them down, seals them and keeps them in a hatbox under her bed.But one day,a guy she used to like approaches her at school asking her about a letter he got from her.Lara Jean is confused and runs back home only to see no sign of her mother's teal hatbox and she realizes that all of her letters got sent out by someone and that all of the boys she has ever liked now know the truth, including her first kiss,a boy she met at church camp and even her sister's ex-boyfriend,Josh,and now,Lara Jean has to deal with the consequences
Warning:mild spoilers ahead,I think
THIS WAS SO CUTE
This was my first Jenny Han book and it did not dissapoint!
It was a very sweet,light,heart-warming read, but it wasn't just a love story like you would think from just the concept of the book. It also deals with family bonds and life experiences and it's just wonderful, okay
I really liked the character of Lara Jean and the way she developed throughout the whole book. She is very different than your usual protagonist and that's what made this contemporary stick out for me.Her bond with her sisters really touched me and I could relate, having a (twin)sister of my own. Some of the things she did were so awkward that you can't help but just be like: "Oh my god,Lara Jean"
I also really liked Peter, even though he seems like a douchey kind of guy,he really is not, there is so much more to him and it was interesting reading about his and Lara Jean's relationship.
Kitty was so adorable and fragile, yet so serious,straight-forward and tough at the same time. Her puppy obsession was the cutest
I'm not really sure how I feel about Margot,or Josh for that matter.Josh slightly annoyed me in a way at one part of the story, however,it's nothing comparing to some other characters(Genevieve.....)
I also kind of liked Chris, the way she doesn't care about what anybody thinks of her and just does whatever makes her happy
OH OH OH,THE HARRY POTTER REFERENCES,HOLY CRAP,I WAS SO HAPPY WHILE READING THAT CHAPTER
The only thing I didn't like is that the story was a bit predictable in some parts, but overall,it didn't ruin the experience for me.
I wouldn't say this is one of my top 5 favourite cotemporaries, but I still highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a cute,light,summer-ish read with adorable characters.
I'm so happy that this is a duology and the sequel's coming out this year because that ending would be annoying.Definitely will be picking it up!
