not quite as good as Gabriel or A Deadly Sin
Harlot - Tracie Podger Harlot - Tracie Podger
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book. This book, Harlot, is written to be read alongside Gabriel, and A Deadly Sin. You don't NEED to have read those books to follow this one, though, as this is a standalone. Those two books were stunning, mind blowing 5 star reads. This one?? Not so much. Oh don't get me wrong, its still a bloody good read, it just doesn't have that.....that......SOMETHING that the other two books have and I cannot figure out why and ya'll know how that stresses me so! Its told only from Charlotte's point view, in keeping with Gabriel. Maybe it was this, or maybe it was Charlotte herself, at 19, that didn't work for me, I don't know what it is it that's missing! Charlotte is thrown into a life of prostitution by her cousin who is appointed guardian when her gran dies. Said guardian walks with some very unsavoury characters who are part of the cult that Gabriel and Mich are fighting, although the cult seems to be evolving, rapidly away for the Divine Child theory and into all the things available to underworld bosses: drugs, prostitution, trafficking and the like. Someone she liked was killed, and he turns out to be quite the opposite of his public image. There is a huge supporting cast who take Charlotte in when she runs, and that melds seamlessly into Gabriel and Mich's tales. I loved those ladies! Loved how they each had their own tale to tell, but they don't tell it, just hint at it, and you have to fill the gaps yourself. Lord only knows what they have all suffered at the hands of the cult and its leaders. Beau helps Charlotte too, even though she looks so much like his lost love. Charlotte has, as much as she can, a happy ending, but her life will never be all hearts and flowers. I wonder though, will Beau ever be happy? Like, really and truly happy? Will he have a book all to himself?? That would be awesome! I needed to get into his head here, and I didn't. I've no idea where Ms Podger is taking this group of books, because they aren't really a series, I really don't but I so need to follow them! Maybe it's because Gabriel and A Deadly Sin blew me away so much, and I'm reading this so close after them, I don't know *insert wailing sound for trying to figure out why I didn't love it!* A solid four star read **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

oh.my.freaking.god!!
A Deadly Sin - Tracie Podger
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Again, jumping straight in. And again, struggling to word what I need to say, so bare with me, ok?? Also, I'm writing this review on the back of writing the review for Gabriel. So if I repeat myself, I'm sorry.

This book is told from two people's point of view, both in the first. Mich, as the main character, tells what's going on, but also we get the bad guy. And boy is he bad! I love getting the bad guys, but this one is just a little too creepy for me. Or I thought so, til he told me more, about what he was doing and more importantly WHY. Yes, it is not an easy thing to read, but you understand him more, as time goes on. Not sure if understand him is the right phase though, cos that makes me one sick puppy if I can understand WHY he does what he does! But do you follow?? Things make more sense as to the why, when his past begins to reveal itself.

I loved the seamless melding of Gabriel's story into this one. LOVED how it all started to come together. LOVED how much I did not see coming at me, not at all.

I read this almost back to back to Gabriel. While I didn't think you NEED to read Gabriel first, if you like thriller, especially ones with some very twisted minds, some very deep rooted beliefs, you should read Gabriel first. I would, really I would. Especially as Gabriel plays a much bigger part in the next book.

While looking forward to it isn't quite the right word, I hope to read the next one, A Deadly Mission. I want to see just how far Mich and Gabriel will go to rid the world of this group of people who have destroyed so many lives.

A very VERY different read to my usual romances, but crime/thriller was my go-to, (that and some good old horror!) pre-kindle days and I really did enjoy getting back to my roots.

Staying up way past your bedtime, full of a cold, it can only get...

so bloody good!!
Gabriel - Tracie Podger

Jumping straight in!

Oh.
My.
Freaking.
God!!!!
I just...I...Oh this is so hard to write!

*deep breath, you can do this! Its only a review!**

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this book, other than it was a thriller, but I didn't expect this!

It's told entirely (here you go, you know what I'm gonna say, right??) from Gabriel's point of view, in the first person, and I freaking LOVED IT!! (HA!!) This book is just so bloody good!

Gabriel's wife was killed while his daughter was in the bathroom. The case went cold and Gabriel and his daughter, Taylor, are left hanging. But then things start happening, weird, odd things, people turning up, shoving folders at him. And as the story unfolds, Gabriel realises how little he knew of his wife's background.

Without giving anything away, Gabriel opens a can of freaking big ass snakes, let alone worms, and the level of betrayal is so high, I did NOT see that coming.

Gabriel gets his revenge, some closure but assured, he will always be looking over his shoulder.

Totally blew me away.

First I've read of Podger, I have A Deadly Sin to read next. I'm told they are kind of linked, but we'll see how.

REVIEW BY DEBBIE - Gabriel and A Deadly Sin by Tracie Podger
Gabriel - Tracie Podger
A Deadly Sin - Tracie Podger

There are some f**ked up people in the world, unfortunately, the worst kind ended up destroying my life.

My wife had been murdered and I made it my mission to find out why and by whom.
But when the ‘why’ and the ‘whom’ invaded my small town, my house, my life, and turned it upside down, it brought more death and devastation.

When you don’t know your enemy it’s hard to know who to trust. I had the greatest religion on earth on one side and a mad man on the other. I was stuck in the middle.

My name is Gabriel. I had a perfect life, a perfect wife, and now I am fighting for justice.

A dark, epic thriller for readers over the age of 18.

★ Release Day & Review ☆ A Virtual Affair By Tracie Podger

27393622

3KH

A Virtual Affair is probably the most difficult book I've ever had to review. At first, I wasn't even sure I would finish it, but I'm certainly glad I did. In the end, it was worth pushing just a little more until the story picked up.

We start at a very confusing place - a woman (Jayne) looking out at the waves crashing along the shore. She sounds pensive and a little deflated, but we really don't know why. Immediately after, we are thrown into a coffee shop where we learn that Jayne is married to a coward of a man. A cheater. A man who treats her worse than garbage. Her best friend, Carla, convinces her to go on holiday, but before that happens, we muddle through her low self-esteem and debate about whether or not the marriage should continue for a little while.

On holiday, Jayne meets Stefan. The low self-esteem is certainly present in this situation, and though her husband has been cheating for years, Jayne feels guilty for her attraction to Stefan. But, despite her reservations, they begin an email friendship that, over time, begins to turn into something more. At this point, life begins to unravel for Jayne. Literally. And it is about here that the story starts to pick up, where the author starts to seem more comfortable with her story and the way she's telling it.

There are some highs. Some sexy moments. And a lot of real, real lows from that point on. I found myself wondering if things would ever be okay for Jayne and then, just when I think they might be, the rug is pulled out from under her. The journey to healing is long and slow (as it always is), and Jayne ends up writing about everything and turning it into a book. But all of it is still missing something very important, and there are parts that will never be the same again.....How does it all end? You'll have to read it yourself to find out!

About my rating:

I could tell how personal this book really was for Tracie Podger, and there are parts that definitely reflect that. Yet there are others that felt....a little excessive. Like, there were literally entire chapters that I just kind of skimmed over because, even if there were snippets of important details, some of the story seemed to run in a loop - sometimes because the same concept was repeated, and other times because I had already deduced what the author wrote on my own. So, essentially, just a lot of over-explaining.

That said, I have to give the author serious props for tackling some really big, deep issues. Infidelity, emotional abuse, death of a loved one, depression....these are not easy topics to write about, and it takes a lot of courage to do so. At times, I felt like maybe the author had distanced herself from those topics (possibly because it really is hard to actually live through some of those emotions as you write about them), but there were a lot of sections that I, myself, wanted to just curl up in a ball and cry over. They just felt that raw, that real.

All in all, I decided to give A Virtual Affiar three heels because it really just fell right in the middle for me, and Tracie Podger is still an author that I would be willing to give another try. If you'd like to check it out and read it yourself, you can pick it up here:
