ARC REVIEW The Librarian's Vampire Assistant book 4 by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

The Librarian's Vampire Assistant, book #4

The Librarian's Vampire Assistant (The Librarian's Vampire Assistant #4)

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes a snarky Mystery with a side dish of Romance and two sprinkles of chaos, THE LIBRARIAN’S VAMPIRE ASSISTANT, Book Four. (Yep! These books are STANDALONES. But the more you read, the merrier!)

SHE’S MINE. BUT HAS SHE FORGOTTEN?

A crazy vampire has stolen my librarian. And if that’s not bad enough, it is my fault. Because I, too, am an ancient, deadly vampire, and it was my job to protect her. I failed.

Now, just as I have reason to hope I will get her back, the situation turns into the biggest mystery of my existence.

Apparently, this evil vampire has brainwashed her into thinking she belongs with him. I do not know how. I do not know why. But I will get to the bottom of this and win her back.

Because I am the motherf*!$%ing librarian’s vampire assistant, and she belongs to me. Or, at least she used to?

Well that just happened. It's a surprising turn of events for Michael that will have you yelling at your book. I kept repeating my MJP mantra "Nothing is as it seems", because really Mimi likes to screw with us that way and then blame it on the characters (I say in a tongue in cheek manner).
In all honesty Michael's dated almost humourless attitude is hysterical and he's so oblivious at times it makes his first person narration even better.
This is technically not a cliffhanger but it's also not a HEA, yet, it does leave a wide open ending for the next book, squeee! I loved this book it is my favorite out of the series so far. Mimi will have you laughing out loud and will have you cursing at Michael, Mr. Nice....Lula... well just about everyone; it's all in good fun and one hell of a story. I stayed up half the night reading it I couldn't put it down.

The Witch's Vampire (Mystery Springs Series)
The Witch's Vampire (Mystery Springs Series) - Jami Brumfield Jami Brumfield is one of my favorite authors. I read her previous books and I fell in love with them. “Lone Wolf Rising” and “Vampire Princess Rising”. The books are paranormal romance my favorite genre and absolutely amazing. “THE WITCH’S VAMPIRE” is her new release. I bought the book and started to read it the night before last night and I had to finish it.

The witch’s vampire exceeded my expectations. The plot is way more complicated, the characters are amazing and very likable, the roller coaster of the ups and downs breathtaking. I just can’t imagine now any books by Jami Brumfield without a hot!!! Hot!!! Hot!!! Vampire, that will take any woman’s breathe away, and make her fall completely and utterly in love with him.

I am absolutely stunned with this author’s level of imagination. Sophie Waters is the lead female character. She is witty, smart, unafraid and unselfish. She cares about others and their wellbeing before she worries about herself. A completely unselfish woman ur…witch. I love the stand she takes toward her sister Chelsea and her father Rafe Waters. But most of all I love her relationship, and the hot romance between Sophie and Gio. I am really hooked with Brumfield’s style of writing and I know that I will be reading every book of this author.

This is a book of romance, intensity, suspense, a touch of mythology and sizzling passion!!! between Sophie and Giovanni Mancuso. I would recommend this book to every person that loves Paranormal / Romance, suspense, thrill and ready to meet some very interesting unforgettable characters. Jami Brumfield this book is great!!! Can’t wait for your next release.

Spinoza for Hire: Two Vampire Mystery Novellas - J.R. Rain Ahh, what can I say. J.R. Rain knows how to tell a story and I found Spinoza's tales to be top notch and some of his best work, equal to his Vampire for Hire series. Spinoza is a tortured man with a painful past. Now he spends his time as a private investigator who specializes in finding missing people: mainly missing children.

In the first book we find out about Spinoza's past and his alcoholism which led him to where he is now. He's a truly tortured person, is extremely shy which isn't very helpful for social situations yet he pushes himself each day to do what he does best in order to make up for the wrongs he has committed. Spinoza is hired by the guardians of Veronica Fortune who also happens to have a tortured past. One day she showed up at the people who would become her guardians house covered in blood and scared. She never talks much about her past and she disappears for days at a time and they love her so never report her to the authorities for fear she'll leave. She disappeared almost a week ago but more importantly her guardians tell Spinoza that she is a vampire slayer and although he doesn't believe in vampires he doesn't think they're crazy either. The few friends of Veronica all give him the same story and while tracking her down and solving this mystery he runs into things that will forever change how he thinks about the world.

In book two a young teenager hires Spinoza (for two tacos) to help find the remains of his birth mom which disappeared from her casket. His birth mom left him a very sizable inheritence and he needs her corpse to prove he is her son through DNA. Mainly he just wants to find her body so it can be put back to rest where it belongs. The boy's father is no good and abusive, he lives with his aunt and Spinoza must dig deep to find out what happened to the woman's body. Once again he runs into things that go bump in the night and comes face to face with monsters along with his own personal demons.

These stories are great and J.R. Rain is just pure fun to read. Most of his short stories are close to 70 pages, sometimes longer or a bit shorter but this forumula works very well for him. Each story is self contained. Mr. Rain never leaves you at the edge of a cliff hanger. All of his stories wrap up nicely yet have an overall story arc through each book. If you haven't read The Vampire in the Iron Mask then I highly suggest doing so. It brings closure to the series and to Spinoza himself. J.R. Rain has quickly become one of my favorite authors and his books are one of my biggest "guilty pleasures" in life. I haven't read everything he's written but I'm working on it and so far I've enjoyed everything I have read, especially The Vampire for Hire series. I hope Veronica an Natassa will make a guest appearance there soon. I also cannot wait for their own series.

A Taste of the Nightlife - Sarah Zettel I think I just read my first cozyI probably would've liked it more, had I known it was a cozy.Plot wise....So the h, owns a restaurant with her famously irresponsible, and somewhat newly vampired  brother. Then they find a body, at their place of business....so the rest of the book is the h, trying to figure out how badly her brother screwed up as to lead to a dead body....all the while knowing she's going to have to sav him, since it's her fault he's all campy, and at the same time fighting off the advances of H 1 and H2....yeah, okay I never really got into this story.Ms zettel does a good job of making  it seem like  a lot is  happening , without a lot actually happening....like it will seem like a lots's going on, but if you think about it, it takes ages for anything to actuallY b accomplished. Then there's the reason the h feels like she has to save her brother....it's a secret for most of the book, but when it comes up...well, it's sorta lame....I'm sure if the description had been heavier, more guilt ridden/ angsty, i'd have bought it, but the way it's described is so freaking tame, it was sorta hard to take it seriously....and t had the added effect of making me like the h even less...Well, that's not quite true...it's not that I don't like the h, it's that I don't care....i dont care what happens to her restaurant, or any pf the myriad pf secondary characters that pop up through out the book, or about the ensuing vamp vs non vamp politics, .i dont care whoch H she chooses, i dont care the least little bit about what goes on in the next book.I'm not sure if it's because I didn't like the h's voice, there wasn't enough world building for me to truly get pulled Ito the world SZ is trying to create or that it's just that I was expecting a pnr- ish UF, and got a cozy instead. AndIt's not that this is badly written or anything,it's just that I didn't get sucked in, I didn't like anyone, and again, I just didn't care.... I never found that overarching  need to keep reading, keep going despite the chores and other real-world things I had to do...and I think that's what's most got me disappointed... Like what I'm guessing most readers want, I wanted to want to keep going, to find that driving need to put everything aside and just keep reading ...but pretty much the opposite happened...so much so that I'll  admit to staying up super late to finish this,  just so I didn't have  to start another day finding excuses not to finish this...so, for me this is a 2 star read.If you're a fan of cozies or want to try one, there's a good chance you'll like this, but it's not for me....and it may be a while before I give another one a try...though maybe going in knowing what I'll be getting ( and actually reading reviews!) will make all the difference! On a side note, years ago I read one of Ms Zettel's Camelot books...IMO it was a lot better( while still being super clean), it's not a cozy, but a historical, and definitely worth a chance :D

A Taste of the Nightlife - Sarah Zettel A great little paranormal mystery. Fun light and very intriguing. The characters are well written and smart. The book reminded me of Charlaine Harris's Harper Connelly series.mystery books.Brother and sister open a restaurant that serves the undead. One of them is a vampire and one a great chef. There is an incident that ends with a dead body on the floor of their restaurant and everything goes wrong from there. In steps one sexy Warlock and one very old equally sexy vampire to help solve this clustering mess that just keeps getting worse.I can't wait to read book 2.
