Captain Beauford/Beau Toller had been in a Yankee prison during the war and vowed if he survived he would reunite with his brothers and change his life. But Beau had gotten three mysterious letters the first two he just destroyed but the third one he did read and it was signed C C. Beau had lost his nerve after nearly fifty runs as a blockade runner. His nemesis is Navy Commander Rives who had said he will kill Beau if he sees him again. C C needed Captain Toller to take here through the union blockade to get C C to her family. Who had sent her to England ten years earlier but now her family needed her,  C C is at a party and meets up with Beau and the go outside to talk. Then Beau thought he was being followed by two men when it turns out that they were after C C.  Beau wants to start a shipping business if he can come up with the money and C C offers to pay him several times the normal to run the blockade. So Beau agrees to try to run the blockade one last time.

I liked this story it had a lot in it: blade running, pretended insanity, stalking, PSTD, stalking, a strong woman, evil villains, role reversal, danger, suspense, humor, yellow fever, and so much more. This story had a good plot. You felt as though you were right there with Beau and C C . I loved the twists and turns for the characters as well as the story. I recommend.

We were gifted, yet again, by Victoria Hanlen with another marvelous read, The Trouble With Seduction, which is another fun addition to her already growing backlist. I became a fan of her writing the moment I started The Trouble With Misbehaving, an amazing story with plenty of actions and adventures, 2 beautifully connected people who come together through it all.

Now TTWS is loosely connected to TTWM. The Trouble With Misbehaving actually takes place a couple of years after The Trouble With Seduction. TTWM is the story of an American-born, now-exiled, heiress, Callista Collins and her journey to reach a Civil-war torn America to rescue her mother who was largely the reason why she was in exile to begin with. Beau has been a blockade runner and a few other shady things in his life even though he was born to nobility. But being the third son of an Earl, one then known as the “blacksheep” of the family, leaves you very little choices in life. At least for the era we’re talking about. He’d just been back to England after long years on the sea, experiencing many adventures, and some tragedies, when he meets Callista and is swept off his feet by her. Yes, by HER. Quite literally.

I simply love it when I discover a debut author gifted with enough wit and charm to make me fall in love with everything in a novel, be it the storyline or the characters. Victoria Hanlen’s The Trouble with Misbehaving falls right into that category. I’ll admit that I wanted to read this book for that gorgeous purple gown on the cover (LOL), however so glad I did since now I know the significance of that color in the story.

The Trouble with Misbehaving was everything I love in a romance novel; A strong, intelligent and independent minded h and a sexy, charming rogue of a H. An intriguing storyline with action and adventures alongside great chemistry between the H and the h, who were as wonderful together as they were on their own. Victoria Hanlen is not only an excellent storyteller, I also loved her writing style.
