(Throughout most of the book, Mina referred to Rhys as Trahaearn. The bits from Rhys's perspective referred to him as Rhys, and Trahaearn is awkward to type, so I have chosen to call him Rhys in this review.)This book confused me too much for me to say that I loved it without reservations, but I did...
This book rocks my socks.Action. Adventure. Mystery. Humor. Romance. Sexytimes. Fiercely determined and protective hero. Smart, loyal and courageous heroine. Wonderful secondary characters. NIFTY GADGETS.Seriously, this book has it all. This was my first steampunk read, and I loved it for all of the ...
3 1/2 stars... Enjoyed this book and the "steampunk" world this story was set. Started a little slow for me with the world building, but the storyline was unique enough and kept my attention. I found the main characters attraction and communication with each other a little awkward at times, but stil...
4.5 stars I really liked this book, definitely an interesting steam-punk novel with pirates, kraken, metalmen, the works. The romance wasn't the best in the world, but I actually liked that it was slow to develop because it felt more realistic. I loved Mina and thought the Iron Duke was interestin...
As is often the case with Steampunk novels, most of the technical details/explanations went right over my head. Barring that tiny flaw in my gray matter though, The Iron Duke is one of my favorite reads this year. Can't wait book #2!
Well this review is going to be all over the place because I have so many thoughts on the book. This was my first foray into steampunk and I had no idea what to expect when I first picked up the book. Thanks to Sharon I knew to look at Brook's website to get an idea of what it was before just divi...
4.75/5 AI thought this book was a really fun, engaging adventure. Meljean Brook is an author I've enjoyed in the past and her solid story telling, world building really came through in this book. Like most of the steampunk books I've read, you kind of get disoriented while figuring out the worl...
Wow! From the strong, intelligent heroine & dark, ruthless hero, through swashbuckling adventures and an evil conspiracy, right up to the incredibly tender ending which had me in tears, this isn't just the perfect alternate history or the perfect steampunk romance - this is the perfect novel.
I loved the world that was created and the underlying mystery that the two main characters went on adventure to solve. I would view it as more fantasy than romance though...as I found, while the romance aspect was good, I was more drawn by the steampunk and fantasy elements.
