Another omnivore here who likes history in fiction or nonfiction, contemporaneous or looking back. Some of my favorites are Graves again, Gore Vidal's historical novels, and Thomas Flanagan's Irish trilogy.

I like several different genres, but historical fiction and non-fiction are among my favorites. I am particularly drawn to the time frames of 1840 to 1960ish, worldwide. I also enjoy well written alternate history, where there is a clear departure yet it remains true to the attitudes of that historical time-frame.

I love historical fiction but read quite a bit of everything. No much into science fiction or fantasy. Definitely think vampires have been over-covered as shapeshifters, werewolves and zombies. Also wandered over from goodreads.

It's like there's been a deluge of paranormal X Y and Z, mostly done badly.

My name is Jim Musgrave, and I write Historical Mysteries, for the most part, although my use of historical research actually applies to most of my work--no matter the genre--it's that important. I live in San Diego with my wife, Ellen, and we're both retired English profs (don't be scared; I won't correct your grammar).

I was recently pleased by seeing the first novel in my Det. Pat O'Malley Steampunk Mystery Series, Forevermore, awarded First Place in the Historical Mystery Category at the Chanticleer Book Awards. Forevermore was also a Finalist in the eBook Fiction Category at the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, so I suppose there are judge who appreciate a good historical mystery!
