Lisa Kleypas is one of my very favorites, too!
Hi all, I see a familiar face or two here. I mainly read historicals, either romance or the more serious Sharon Penman kind of books.
Hi, all! I'm Linda Hilton, yeah, really I am. ☺ I've been reading historicals since, um, about 1960, which means I'm really really old. I also like high fantasy (Tolkien, Morris, Jordan, etc.) and I enjoy mysteries, too, but historical romance is my first love. Too many favorites to narrow it down, but among the top of the list would have to be Frank Yerby's "The Saracen Blade"; M.M. Kaye's "The Far Pavilions"; Candace Camp's "The Rainbow Season" and "Bitterleaf"; Judy Cuevas' "Black Silk." Those are the books I go back to over and over and over and am never disappointed.
Well I am thinking that I need to pick up some Lisa Kleypas. Seems she is everyone's favorite!
Teresa here from Oklahoma, currently. First got started a long time ago, with Gothic Romance, and loved Georgette Heyer, Victoria Holt and Norah Lofts. I also really liked the books by Shellabarger, The Captain from Castile and The Prince of Foxes, although they were more of the swashbuckling type. These days, I prefer my romance "lite" and witty, and if you give me time travel too then I'm in heaven. -- love Diana Gabaldon's series.

Kleypas is good, but I find she can be really hit or miss. For example, I love the Hathaway series, have re-read it at least twice, but could not stand the Wallflowers books--but a lot of people love the Wallflowers and the Hathaways, not so much. It's probably a testament to Kleypas's versatility as an author that her books are not all cookie-cutter formulaic, but as a reader, be forewarned that not everything she writes may appeal to you, and if you don't like what you read first, try something else before you write her off.

There was a book in each series of those series that I didn't like, but I loved both series.
Actually it would probably be more accurate to say there was a character in The Wallflower series that I didn't like in her book and I wasn't crazy about the last Hathaway book. But boy, when Kleypas gets it right, she really gets it right. (Cam!)

Oh, Cam. And Kev Merripen. *sigh.* I don't know what you mean by a Wallflower character in the last Hathaway book. I know Cam showed up in the Wallflower's Devil in Winter, and honestly I thought it was kind of racist and offensive that they kept referring to him as "Boy" in DiW even though he as already in his mid-twenties.

No, I meant there was a character in the Wallflower series that I didn't like in her book, That would be Lillian. I didn't really care for her at all.
I remember Cam in the Wallflower book. He was swoon-worthy even then. I'm glad he got into the Hathaway series!
