Our Gippsland Giants aren't at all Dune-worthy, I promise. As Stewart mentions in her book, they are actually extraordinarily fragile and often die very soon after being exposed to the air, so they are rarely seen (just heard, lol). And while they are 3 meters long (the Gippsland ones) they are very skinny.
That Digaster that gets as thick as a garden hose gives me pause though... but that's New South Wales. ;-)
@Person of Interest; As far as I understand things, they are very appreciated in Gippsland and don't cause any problems. I don't know that anyone has ever really seen much in the way of their tunnels; Gippsland is pastureland more than agriculture so not a lot of digging, I suppose. They keep themselves to themselves. :D
