Discussion post for our Hogfather Buddy Read.

EVERYTHING STARTS SOMEWHERE, although many physicists disagree.

Ho, ho, ho... :)
And in the end, it all comes down to blood.

I also have to admit, that I regularly watch the movie they made based on this book
...There's a MOVIE?!? [runs off to check Amazon]

The movie is fantastic! And I miss Ian Richardson so much! I get a little sad every time the dedication to him shows up on screen when I run the dvd.
I'm watching that movie just as soon as I finish (and start!)

Hehe. Me, too! :D
Okay, just started. I'm reading this one out of order - it's the first book in the DEATH series that I've read. I get the sense that Susan and her backstory is from another book?

Yes, Susan first appears in Soul Music. I think all you need to know is that she's Death granddaughter because he adopted her mother when she was orphaned.

Mild spoilers for previous books:

(hide spoiler) Susan's mother later married Death's apprentice. And due to weird Discworld inheritance rules this means that Susan can do a little bit of what Death does and can actually step into his role if he steps out of it.(show spoiler)

Thanks for the clarification! And yeah, these do stand on their own, but understanding the backstory does add a little to the fun scene with the poker. Not just persykology then.

Ah - thanks for the reminder! I've read Mort, but it's been awhile ago. It all makes so much more sense now. :)

Maybe I should reread Hogfather again this year just so I can anticipate your questions...

Yes, you absolutely should. ;)

Thanks for the heads up. I was a little lost, still am lol!

Yeah, I have no idea what those gray cloaks are, but am confident that Pratchett will let us know when we need to. I love the idea that as soon as one of them starts referring to itself as an individual person, it pops out of existence. You can almost hear it thinking, oops, dammit.
This has me laughing and scratching my head in some spots. I wish I would have started reading his stuff sooner.

And yeah, the grey cloaks - oops. LOL
Need help?
