ARC REVIEW My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid
My Darling Duke (Sinful Wallflowers, #1)Sinful Wallflowers #1, The Sinful Wallflowers are a group of young ladies on the cusp of becoming "old maids" and they have decided that they are finally going to do something wicked and truly sinful before becoming unmarriageable. First up we have Katherine Danvers, the daughter of a Viscount who five years previously died and left an annual stipend for the family but with a stingy heir the money is running low and since this is going to be her fourth season with no prospects she must do something drastic to help her sisters and her mother even if it means sacrificing her own future. After sending a letter to the gossip columnist stating she is to marry a reclusive Duke who hasn't been seen in almost ten years has made Kitty Danvers the talk of the ton but more importantly it opened certain doors for her and her marriageable sisters.

Even after ten years Alexander Master, Duke of Thornton, is still considered one of the most eligible bachelors but he doesn't concern himself with matters of the ton. After the terrible accident that left him scarred and at times wheelchair bound he has given up any thought to such things and given up hope of ever marrying. Alex never paid attention to the rumors about him until suddenly he has a fiancee, he isn't concerned with it at first but the more he reads the fascinated he becomes and he decides that a trip to London is warranted.
Alex isn't even angry and when he meets Kitty for the first time he knows he needs more. Letting her carry on with the lie and understanding why she did it were easy but he wanted something in return from her time away from London without a chaperone until his fascination with her wanes. Reluctantly she agrees and arranges with her mother to be out in the country taking care of a sick aunt. Her time in Scotland with Alex, his sister and his cousin was eye opening; their feelings grew and soon it was love but Alex is a hard one and his stubbornness might be the end of it.

Overall, it was a great story I'm having a hard time trying to decide 4 or 5 stars. It was wonderfully written and the characters were all well done. I have a feeling the second book is going to run parallel with this one. I really like the Beauty and the Beast similarities, it is kind of a retelling and a nicely done one too. I look forward to the rest of the series.

My Darling Duke (Sinful Wallflowers #1) - Stacy Reid

Lindsey left behind some large shoes to fill and Reid is well on her way to proving herself up for the challenge. My Darling Duke transforms the way we look at romance. Katherine and Alexander capture attention with their larger than life personalities and fiery spirits. Emotions give way to an inspiring journey of hope that will leave any heart hauntingly breathless.

The Bluestocking (Wicked Wallflowers #4) - Christi Caldwell

I looked forward to this one ever since the “Mad Marquess” made his first appearance. I’m glade Gertrude got her happily-ever-after and that Stephen found his real father and got to keep his adoptive family as well. The story was enjoyable and entertaining. The passion good and the pace steady. It isn’t my favorite in the series, but I wasn’t bored with it and I enjoyed watching the characters grow and forgive and heal. Overall good story and strong characters.

The Governess (Wicked Wallflowers #3) - Christi Caldwell

Oh, I so looked forward to Broderick’s story and that it was with Regina, a woman he never truly saw till it was almost too late, made it priceless and perfect and so romantic.  I loved their relationship, their story, their highs and lows, and everything about the story.  Broderick has tried to marry his sisters off since book one, in the misguided guise of finding them protection, though they believe (and he let them believe) it is to earn him a connection to the ton. Now, it is his turn, though it does start off with him trying to marry Gertrude off to someone in the ton, he quickly comes to realize, thanks to Regina, that he can't ruin his sister's chance at finding real happiness. I loved the story, start to finish; the only native was I wish there had been an epilogue.  I wanted more from them. :-)  Great story and I can’t wait till Gertrude’s story next.

The Rogue Is Back in Town (The Wayward Wallflowers #3) by Anna Bennett
The Rogue Is Back in Town - Anna Bennett

First of all, look at that pretty cover! Yes, I know, I’m shallow and I like pretty covers and that cover is so pretty and purple and it’s just so O-M-G! So pretty that even though I read an ARC of this book I had to buy the print book because yes, pretty cover!

Moving on, Sam is known by everyone as a womanizer and a rake. His brother is done with him and is ready to disown him unless he does one thing for him: remove Miss Juliet Lacey, one of the Wilting Wallflowers, and his uncle Alistair from one of his properties.

Sam was a really fun character. He was a rake alright but a the same time he was endearing and oh, so sweet. He knew it was time to stop living a life of debauchery if he wanted to repair the rift between his brother and him, whom he clearly cared for more than money itself. When he met Julie, it seemed he was not going to miss the chance to behave roguishly but he quickly realized Julie was no wilting wallflower and he would have to change tactics if he was going to convince her to leave.
I have a thing for stories with feuds between siblings. I think it’s one of the saddest things that can happen in real life and if an author can make me feel such sadness through the pages I just feel like “yes, this is how it should feel like!”

I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end, and although at times I rolled my eyes at the naivete of Julie, I also found myself remembering she was the youngest of the trio and had never had to deal with any huge problematic issues in her life. She was just a girl trying to find her place in a world that had only recently accepted her and her sisters and only because her sisters had married well. In the end she found her HEA in the least expected man in the least expected way and I think they were perfect for each other.

***I received this book at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.***
