Monday Mini Review – Born A Crime by Trevor Noah @Trevornoah
Born a Crime - Trevor Noah

I have been watching Trevor Noah on The Daily Show for some time now and when I saw he had a book out, I had to have it. I checked it out from the library and I was not disappointed.

Cover Design:  Greg Mollica

Publisher: Spiegil & Grau/Penguin Random House

Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Trevor Noah is a prime example that how you grow up is no excuse. He shows that you can be whatever you want to be. He is livingthe American Dream after growing up in Africa during Apartheid.

I couldn’t help but laugh at his childhood antics. I love that nothing crushed his personality, his ability to make fun of life. Him and his mother are an amazing pair. Their life was rich in love and experience.

“We had a very Tom and Jerry relationship, me and my mom. She was the strict disciplinarian, I was naughty as shit.”

His mom, Gotta love her. They laughed in the face of death. His mother is an amazing woman. Strong, stubborn, confident, determined. I love how she ‘worked the system and if you read these essays you will wonder if you could do the same.

I laughed with them, I was angry for them and I deeply respect their ability to rise above the horror they lived in.

You don’t want to miss these fabulous essays.

Giveaway & Review – Devil’s Fingers by Hunter Shea @huntershea1
The Devil's Fingers - Hunter Shea

The Devil’s Fingers
One Size Eats All #3
by Hunter Shea
Genre: Horror
.
MY REVIEW
.
Hunter Shea’s humor shines throw the blackness of the horror he created in Devil’s Fingers. They had gathered together to wish Seth’s dad bon voyage into the next world. Their teenage antics are fun…until…Autumn, miss know it all Autumn…I will  think twice about entering the woods, and will definitely stay away from any funny looking stuff! Hunter Shea loves to kill off his characters, so be careful who you get attached to because you don’t know who or if anyone will make it out alive. Cryptozoology at its finest.

Nuclear War & Space Pirates – The Heights of Perdition by C S Johnson @C_S_Johnson13
The Heights of Perdition: A Science Fiction Romance Series (The Divine Space Pirates Book 1) - C. S. Johnson,Jennifer Sell

The Heights of Perdition (The Divine Space Pirates, #1)

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

C S Johnson has created a world that was destroyed by a nuclear holocaust and it is easy to picture the devastation and the struggle of the people to survive.

The Heights of Perdition takes us from the Earth to Outer Space and back again.

It was easy to figure out where the story was going but I thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

The people of New Hope, which is formerly New York City, live underground. That alone is enough to creep me out. Above ground is desolate and barren. I do love that C S has saved one giant tree and Aeris sneaks out to spend time in it. She has an independent streak, so when it comes time for her to graduate and join the Military Academy, her lifelong dream, her father nixes that idea. She is crushed, but I too, think she is better suited doing something else. She has a green thumb and they are in dire need of someone with her skills.

I can’t imagine the life of the people Serious. No laughs. No fun. The leaders say jump, the people say, how hi. No free thinking allowed.

Exton Shepherd hijacked the Perdition because he felt he had no choice. It was his father’s invention and he was not about to let anyone misuse it. Him and his crew lived on the spaceship, but they still had to return to Earth for water. Their lives are full of all the things that make us human. All the emotions that entails. And theyare allowed to show them.

When the two come together, we know what’s going to happen. But, for me, that’s okay. Just because I know how the story goes, doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it. And I did.

All the things that make us human are exposed, the good and bad, the misuse of power, the demand to be obeyed, greed, and love and laughter.

The Heights of Perdition by C S Johnson is thought provoking and frightening. What would the world be like after nuclear war? C S Johnson gives us a glimpse of some possibilities. I would love to read more.

The only thing I hated was the cliffhanger…but the trilogy is complete and even comes in a boxed set. So…grab your copy now if you love science fiction or world ending stories.

One Sentence Review – Killer Ambition by Marcia Clark @thatmarciaclark
Killer Ambition (Rachel Knight Book 3) - Marcia Clark

My first thought when I hear Marcia Clark is the OJ Simpson trial, but Marcia is an author who leaves her mark through words too.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Little, Brown and Company.

Killer Ambition (Rachel Knight, #3)

Amazon  /  Audiobook  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

I have been enjoying the Rachel Night series, though I am confused about her relationship with Graden and impressed with her ability to be a lawyer, manipulating people and letting the facts talk for her where my mouth would be going ninety miles an hour with some swear words thrown in and because truth…justice…MY ASS!

Flesh - Laura Bickle

Flesh

Flesh by Laura Bickle

MY REVIEW
.

Laura Bickle’s Undead in Flesh are not your typical zombies. They are a unique blend.

These youngsters do not bite off more than they can chew in this sometimes funny tale of the Undead and they have an ability to go with the flow to save their town.

Great storytelling with plenty of fear and danger and a pace that makes for some spine tingling, hair raising reading of the horror kind.
