Blog Tour # 1 - LIFE ON LOAN

Title: Life On Loan
Author: Adrianne James
Genre: New Adult
Published: February 14, 2013
Publisher: Booktrope

When seventeen year old Paige Daniels can no longer ignore the pangs of hunger, a dumpster is often her only source of nourishment. Paige has never had the opportunity to be a typical teenager. From the time she was thirteen, life has been lived on the streets. She steals what she needs to survive, but never without a silent apology and a promise to pay for whatever she took when she has the chance. Paige finds herself with a new partner, twenty year old Noah, and her life changes in more ways than she ever thought possible. After waking up to the first snow fall of the year, Paige and Noah attempt to steal a blanket but end up taking more than they ever had before. Will Paige and Noah just give up what they have come to know? Or will they do anything to keep the life they have begun to live?

Author Bio: Growing up, Adrianne couldn’t get her hands on enough books to satisfy her need for the make believe. If she finished a novel and didn’t have a new one ready and waiting for her, she began to create her own tales of magic and wonder. Now, as an adult, books still make up majority of her free time, and now her tales get written down to be shared with the world. During the day, Adrianne uses her camera to capture life’s stories for clients of all ages and at night, after her two children are tucked in bed; she devotes herself to her written work. Adrianne is living the life she always wanted, surrounded by art and beauty, the written word and a loving family. As a New Adult Paranormal (and sometimes contemporary) author, Adrianne James writes strong women, powerful magic, and love that lasts a lifetime.

The Enlightening
The Enlightening - Adrianne James This book picks up the story where The Tempering left off. It was a really enjoyable read but the book is in serious need of proofreading. Lack of proofreading was an issue with the first installment of this series and I assumed the issue would be corrected by book 2. Quick example of this is the use of the word dinner when the author meant diner. If this could be ignored then the story flowed nicely. Overall 3.5 rating.

Review: The Billionaire and the Barfly by Adrianne James
The Billionaire & The Barfly - Adrianne James

Aubrey Vincent wants what every twenty something does; her career to take off, to be able to move out of her parents home and start a life of her own. What makes her different from most women, especially in this genre, is she doesn't want a boyfriend. She loves sex, lets get that straight, but she is more than happy with one night stands with whoever peaks her interests for the time being. That is until Henry Maximus comes into the picture and everything she thought she wanted in her personal life seems to be turned upside down.

Henry is fan-girls dream. Hot, smart, geeky and oozing sex appeal, I immediately loved him. However, what really solidified him into the book boyfriend hall of fame is that he wasn't trying to get Aubrey into bed but he wanted her to love him....Seriously??? Awwwwww. I loved that the guy character was what you would normally see in a female character in this genre. Plus Aubrey herself seemed like the type to be a great friend and I would love to hang out with. The two of them together make this super executive type couple that truly turn on the heat with each other. I loved that he started to break down her walls and change how she felt about men. That is quite the characteristic in a romance lead.

I did feel like his perspective was missing from all of the this. It is told completely in Aubrey's POV and I really just wanted to get into his head throughout and really find out what he was thinking while chasing her. I did appreciate the fact that Aubrey's character was fully defined and we got to know her from A to Z, which I think is why the author chose to tell the story from her head and not both. I can respect that. The story was great, the romance seemed organic and the book left me wanting more. All of that would make me recommend this book to anyone!

The Enlightening (Mackenzie Duncan #2) by Adrianne James
The Enlightening (The Mackenzie Duncan Series) - Adrianne James

The Enlightening picks up right on the heels of where The Tempering ended. Mackenzie is on the run with Geoff and Liam (the perfect love triangle). Now normally I'm not a huge fan of the triangle - but in this case all parties know what is going on - no one is hiding their feelings for each other, so it didn't really bother me. While this is one of the driving points it is not the only one. The main purpose of their journey is to find a place where they can live peacefully, and warn every pack they come across about Margaret's plans.

Sometimes their plan works well and other times it lands them in heaps of trouble. I like how Adrianne James balanced the good packs against the bad packs, and even within each pack themselves at times. Each one had their own little min-society with its own rules and guidelines and traditions. As the trio pack hops, a lot is revealed and I can't give away too much of the story. They run into old friends and people they thought lost with several very touching reuinions.

All three characters grow and change - both mentally and in their werewolf abilities. I don't think a single one left the story the same person as when the entered. I found this book to be much more of an adventure than book one which seemed to be more story and world building. It does end in a bit of a cliffhanger - I was really super pissed at one of the guys - you'll know exactly who I mean once you read it.
