Archangel's Legion
Archangel's Legion - Nalini Singh

5 Fabulous Shiny Stars!!

Loved this story, and I REALLY like where the author is going with the series.

The writing, story, and characters where BRILLIANT!

I really enjoyed getting to know a little more about Aodhan, Illiam, and Naasir (even though I'm not quite sure what Naasir is).

Once again Raphael and Elana are passionate, charismatic, strong, stubborn, and PERFECT for one another.

Fans of the "Guild Hunter" series will not be disappointed!

Favorite Quotes:

"The Cascade happens and Neha calls fire and ice, Elena said into his mind at the same instant. Titus moves the earth, Astaad the sea, while creepy Lijuan brings the dead back to life. Meanwhile, my gorgeous archangel, not satisfied with, I don't know, shooting lightning bolts or something, actually taps into the energy of the planet and calls an army of bogeymen from the bottom of the ocean. Of course you do."
The dry commentary made him wonder how he'd ever walked through life without the wit and laughter of his hunter by his side. He could no longer imagine such a cold, remote existence, the idea of it spawning an immediate repudiation in his bloodstream.

His thumb caressing her cheekbone, his face close to her own. "You have never, and will never, weaken me. You make me a better man and a better leader than I would've ever been without you." He shook his head. "You said once that you couldn't do this without me. Well, I can't do this without you, Guild Hunter."

Archangel's Legion
Archangel's Legion - Nalini Singh *flails*

What I love so much about Raphael and Elena is that, unlike so many couples in romance, they communicate. Even when one of them wants to close up, the other never lets themselves be shut out.

I love the strength of their relationship – of course, they fight and then compromise and sometimes they get their ways, but all of it just makes it more real.

And I love what they have become, how they have become better, both individually and together. Especially Raphael, who would now rather reject power than become someone he doesn’t want to be (and I also liked his delightful new sense of humour).

Archangel's Legion also brought stunning battle scenes along with real consequences, and the story in general evoked so many emotions.

It was great to see five of the seven along with some other characters.

In the end, the story offers a surprising explanation for the title of the book, but I’m not saying anything more about it than that I liked it.

The book ends with a bit of a promising set-up for the continuation of the series but without a cliffhanger. And so I think this is good place for me to take a break, because I need it after binging through 6 books in 15 days (it was so good I just couldn’t stop reading, okay.)

I enjoy Nalini Singh’s writing and world’s she creates. I have to say I’m not falling in love with the Guild Hunter series like I did with her Psy-Changeling. Not sure why!! I am still very much enjoying theis series, but it’s not as die hard must read and own the books as I am with the Psy-Changeling.

Archangel’s Legion is book six in the Guild Hunter series. It returns us to our main and first couple Elena and Raphael. We get to see how their relationship is developing and the changes that are happening physically, emotionally, and in the world.

Elena is young, very young for an Angel and the first that the Angels know of that is a Made Angel. She is Consort to Raphael and a Guild Hunter. We go a little deeper into her psyche and the trauma that her father Jeffery instilled in her and get see how this affects her. We also see her taking on more responsibility – that many did not think or feel she would take on yet. She learns new things about being a Consort and starts to realizing that her life is just as dangers, if not more now, then it every was. Last she is coming to understand her place next to Raphael and in the world. Their is still much more for both of them to learn.

As for Raphael he undergoes very few changes in this installment.

We get to revisit with Raphael’s Seven and learn more about them, especially Aodhan. I really liked the inside look into Aodhan and can’t wait for his story. Archangel’s Legion had a nice mix of old and new characters. Their is lots of action, adventure, new alliances made, and a war coming. Things are changing and some big surprises are introduced to the reader, especially at the end.

The only thing that I didn’t care for was all the sex. I don’t mind reading about sex in romance books, but I felt it was too much. Almost every chapter had Elena and Raphael getting it on or ending with them in bed.

Archangel’s Legion was a satisfying read. It tackles Elena and Raphael’s greatest fears and shows how the characters are developing. The pace is quick, the action is relentless, and it prepares us for change in the world.

Rated: 3.5 Stars

Review: Archangel's Legion by Nalini Singh
Archangel's Legion - Nalini Singh

http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2015/08/review-archangels-legion-by-nalini-singh.html

Archangel’s Legion hits the ground running in a stunning show of worldbuilding that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. Nalini Singh is unquestioningly one of the best authors in the genre and her talent for creating unforgettable characters and intelligent plots is on full display in this sixth Guild Hunter novel.

At the heart of Archangel’s Legion are Elena and Raphael, and after two books that were focused on other couples, I’m glad we returned to them. The Archangel of New York and his Guild Hunter consort continue to grow as a couple throughout the story. Their relationship is rock-solid, but that doesn’t mean things are easy for them. They go through their ups and downs as new and even more dangerous challenges face them, testing their strength as a couple. The Cascade is in full effect and all the archangels are developing new powers. Alliances are being formed within the Cadre, which means Raphael and Elena must face a whole new level of terror. For angels are falling out of the sky, vampires are contracting a fatal disease, and Lijuan’s unborn are practically knocking on their door. The dangerous games the Cadre has been playing up until now are being cast aside in favor of all-out warfare, and if Elena, Raphael, and their allies don’t move fast or can’t strike hard enough, their territory will fall and everyone will pay the price. Bad news for our favorite characters, but it is great news for readers, for these developments make the story intricate and interesting. There are no slow moments; every page makes you want to keep moving forward until you reach the end.

Archangel’s Legion contains a number of twists and turns both in terms of the overarching storylines of the series and on a personal level. I won’t spoil what happens, because that would ruin the fun, but suffice it to say this is one of the strongest Guild Hunter installments to date. There’s power and emotion in Ms. Singh’s writing and Guild Hunter fans are in for one heck of a ride.

Archangel’s Legion is the sixth book in the Guild Hunter series, and it’s best if the books are read in order, starting with Angels’ Blood. Every story builds on the last andArchangel’s Legion opens the door for a good half dozen avenues to be explored in future books. I absolutely cannot wait to see where Ms. Singh takes our beloved angels, vampires, and humans next!

Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force.

Vampires are dying impossibly of disease.

Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York a ruin and Raphael’s Tower under siege by enemy archangels.

Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York…and on Raphael. Rivers of crimson and nightmares given flesh, the world will never again be the same…

In Archangel’s Legion, the love between Raphael and Elena became an epiphany! I knew there was love with them, but here, that love was just so strong and beautiful it made the story epic in a very different way.

My Archangel’s Legion review:

Between the undeniable love and respect between Elena and Raphael, and all the troubles bestowed upon them, Archangel’s Legion was a thrilling read from start to finish. Thrilling both because of the incredible chemistry between the main characters, and because of the fights they had to engage in on many different levels. The story is fast paced, and all my favorite characters from the Guild Hunter series – both those I love and those I love to hate – were present in one way or another.

I think one of the things I enjoyed the most in Archangel’s Legion was how deep and true the bond between Elena and Raphael proved to be! They are both fighters, and while Raphael has lived a very long time, he had partly lost his touch with his humanity and compassion before he met Elena. While some angels were persuaded Elena would be a weakness for Raphael, it rather seemed to me they were both able to strengthen each other. With their love, with their frank honesty, with their skills – they just complemented each other in every possible way.

The character development in Archangel’s Legion was amazing – both Raphael and Elena have come a long way since the time when they first met in Angel’s Blood – is nothing short of amazing! While they both have their specific personality intact, they have also been able to positively influence each other, and they have become much stronger thanks to the fact that they have always had the ability to trust each other, and be complete and pure with each other – even when they have to hide certain things from other characters surrounding them.

I could go on and on about my love for this couple, I almost wish the series would always feature Raphael and Elena as the main focus – even though all the other characters are extremely interesting as well. Their abilities both when it comes to love, fighting, being able to analyze a situation with all possibilities taken into account just make them so interesting and loveable! The overall story and the plot is so well executed I almost had to remind myself this is fiction at times.

Ms. Singh’s writing will probably never cease to amaze me, between the witty dialogues, the beautiful romantic (and oftentimes very sexy!) scenes between the main couple, the fighting, the strategizing, the love without boundaries is just so well done! Written in third person point of view, past tense, mostly from Elena’s point of view, the insight into other characters is never neglected, and the richness of the language and the descriptions that made me feel like I had wings, too, just contributed to making Archangel’s Legion a powerful and extremely satisfying read.

Some of my favorite Archangel’s Legion quotes:

“It will be done,” Raphael said with a cool arrogance that made her want to drag him back to bed.

He laughed, her dangerous lover who wore his strength as a second skin and had a face of such violent masculine beauty that she was stunned anew each time she realized he belonged to her.

You ever think maybe archangels should be challenged once in a while? she countered. That it’d take care of the whole arrogance issue?
Anyone may challenge me.

Arms wrapped around his neck, she kissed his temple. “I’m sorry I scared you.” It wasn’t the done thing for an archangel to admit fear, but he was hers, and she’d hurt him without meaning to; it was up to her to fix her mistake.

His wings shifted, but he didn’t extricate their bodies. “I didn’t know fear until you, Elena. Use the power wisely.”
