ARC REVIEW How to Blackmail a Highlander by Michelle McLean

How to Blackmail a HighlanderThe MacGregor Lairds #3, This was a fun read and although I missed the first two books I was able to jump into this one no problem. Lady Alice is ready to fulfill  her duty and get married and have babies what Alice doesn't want is to marry the discusting old geezer who, if the rumor is believed, murdered his last three wives for not producing an heir. Alice's best friend, Elizabet was in a similar situation and managed to avoid it by running away with a Scottish highwayman, Laird John MacGregor, who was banished from England. When Alice finally gets word that her friend is safe she does the only thing she can think of to get out of her situation, she blackmails the messenger.

Philip MacGregor isn't any ordinary messenger he's a cousin, best friend, and the right hand man to the notorious Highland Highwayman. With their robbing days behind them mainly because the banishment and John's marriage to Elizabet, they have set up in Scotland. Phillip can still travel from England to Scotland no problem so when asked to deliver a message to Alice he has no problem doing so until she blackmails him into taking her with him, try as he may he can't get rid of her. Cue the travel hijinx.

The attraction is there from the beginning but the connection between the two of them grows stronger the more time they spend together and the more they argue. Philip loves to argue with Alice and loves that she's a challenge and no push over he just wishes she would stop and think about what's she doing first, she has the tendency to act first, think later.  Alice is so use to getting her own way that when the consequences of her action finally catch up she realizes it's exactly what Philip warned her would happen but Philip doesn't say I told you so, no, at that point he loves her too much to do that. Alice and Philip don't seem like a match made in heaven but in this case it's opposites attract.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. Some of the stuff they argue over is so funny. The writing was great the narrative swept me away to Scotland, it has a good story and wonderful characters you really sympathize with. It was a first time reading this author and I look forward to reading more.

Undercover with the Earl by Robyn DeHart 99 cents
Undercover with the Earl (Entangled Scandalous) - Robyn DeHart

To capture the most eligible bachelor in London...

London, 1838
The handsome Earl of Somersby may just be the most eligible bachelor in London, but has no interest in a wife. As a member of the Brotherhood, Bennett Haile is far more vested in his undercover duties for the crown and protecting the Queen from would-be assassins. For now he has the perfect tool with which to lure out the villains-a young woman with an uncanny likeness to the queen.

The spirited Evelyn Marrington is about to live out every country girl's dream-becoming royalty overnight. Under the tutelage of the arrogant Earl of Somersby, she'll have to fool the entire court that she is, in fact, the queen. But as danger threatens from every side, Bennett realizes that his lovely little protegé isn't just placing her life in his hands... She's stealing his heart.

The Love Match (Entangled Scandalous)
The Love Match (Entangled Scandalous) - Lily Maxton This couple was so different it was hard to picture them as a couple. William is a ladies man and Olivia is a timid flower that has yet to bloom. My favorite part of a romance is when the couples do not fit the mold of the normal. That is what makes them more interesting is because there are always surprises thrown in. This story reminds me of the saying: Outer beauty may fade but inner beauty will always remain. The Love Match by Lily Maxton is an awesome match for that quote.

Undercover with the Earl (Brotherhood of the Sword #1) by Robyn DeHart - Blog Tour, Review & ‪Giveaway‬
Undercover with the Earl (Entangled Scandalous) - Robyn DeHart
I really liked both Evelyn and Bennett. They both think that they are not looking for marriage. Evelyn because she doesn't think she is attractive or desirable, and Bennett because he doesn't believe in love or that he is lovable. As they work together to keep the Queen's secret, they help each other believe in a different future than what they had planned for themselves. My only complaints are that the story was too short to fully develop the covert mission and there was no resolution to the mystery behind who was behind the attacks. I'm hoping that the reason behind it is that storyline continues into the following books in the series. Overall and enjoyable read.

I received an ARC via NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.

The Mistake by Lily Maxton
The Mistake (Entangled Scandalous) - Lily Maxton

This was one of the more interesting historical story lines I've read. Julia is a mistress - a fairly famous one. But she's found herself in a rough place with a man that is not very nice. He ships her off, pregnant and a little worried, to his country estate. She hopes to find some quiet and time to think - but instead she runs into her childhood sweetheart. Uh oh! Here's where she should have been open and honest, but she neglects to tell the whole truth instead - shame on her.

Adam is a gardener - a really good one! It was fun to see our hero not part of the aristocracy, but instead, a regular guy with a job, bills, and all that jazz. He's shocked to see Julia, and things are quite tense between the two of them.

While, Julia never really grew on me, the story was developed very nicely. No great sudden bursts through the plot or into love and a relationship. It was a gradual re-development of feelings and attractions. It was a romance brought on by some sweet reminiscing and with the help of Adam's nieces. They were just adorable.

Long and short - the plot was great - Adam was great - wish I'd liked Julia a more.

*This book was received in exchange for an honest review*
