Where the Wild Things Are
Where The Wild Things Are - Maurice Sendak

This story is about a boy that is sent to bed without his dinner for acting like a "wild thing". He falls asleep soon after and his imagination begins to run wild. His room starts off by being transformed into a forest and then he finds a boat and sets sail for quite some time. He eventually finds himself in a land inhabited by wild things, where he eventually becomes king. He begins to miss his mother and understand that being in charge is not as easy as he thinks. One way that I would use this in my classroom would be by reading a loud and have the students come up with synonyms for the word terrible. I would also have students write captions for the pictures that did not have any with them.

Bridge to Terabithia
Bridge to Terabithia - Katherine Paterson

Bridge to Terabithia is a great novel that tells a story about two lonely children that feel like outsiders create a magical forest kingdom with their imaginations. This novel tells a story about great friendship and the loss of it. The real life conflicts that the characters experience throughout this novel make you love them all the more. I would use this novel in my classroom to not only teach life lessons but also practice with segmenting of events.

Morrigan by Laura DeLuca
Morrigan - Laura DeLuca

Morrigan is a young adult who has always kept her magical powers of telekinetics and an ability to control fire a secret. Having been abandoned at birth and moved from countless foster homes her only companions are a set of cats. Much to her surpise she one day comes face to face with a mysterious knight who has appeared in many of her dreams and discovers a magical world that she is destined to save from evil.  Descended from a line of magical witches she must rescue her mother, the queen and her grandmother from an evil witch who seeks to destroy them. Morrigan joins the knight on this perilous journey in hopes of not only conquering evil but to find love and acceptance at last.

This story takes you on an amazing quest and in a magical world where anything can happen. I felt transported to a medieval village and much like in a fairytale it completely captured my heart. Morrigan is a typical teen who has lead a very untypical life and you feel for her instantly.  She is truly seeking love and friendship.  When she meets her knight I couldn't help but want her to find it at last.  Not all is what it seems and there were many suprises that were yet to discover. This book certainly stood out for me in the vast ocean of paranormal/fantasy young adult books and encourage anyone who likes these genres to read this. You will not be disappointed.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

My thoughts

Let me start off by saying that I love this cover to this debut novel.Ada Adams is a new author to me and I have to say that I really loved the first and second book.

The story involves vampires and humans coexisting together. In this story the vampires are known to the humans some in favor of there existence and other who are not.

All and all this was great story.Dawn who is a young vampire warrior and also the daughter of the President of all vampires is sent on a mission to trained 4 young teenage vampires to become the new protectors of the town they live in.For Dawn she been sheltered and protected all her life.Dawn has now been given a mission and for the first time able to spread her wings.

I loved the idea of Dawn training a bunch of misfits to be great warriors. The characters had all different personalities total opposites of each other making them a great cast of characters. Some where moody and dark others quiet and shy and another nerdy. You had to love the reaction to Dawn coming in contact with each and everyone of her new recruits .Remember she has been training with hardened warrior her whole life and now she takes one look at this sad group thinking her mission is hopeless from the very beginning. Her reaction to meeting each and everyone was priceless.

For me I have to have a favorite character but, this time it was really hard to choose. But, in the end I am choosing Sebastian.Razor his brother would be my second choice.Sebastian was a young vampire with a tragic past making him a bit dark and moody but, on the other hand very protective and loving individual at the same time.He had many sides to him that made him so interesting to read about.Sebastian a tall dark and handsome vampire that is surrounded with mystery who wouldn't fall head over heels for him ?

I just loved the story it had so much going for it.Love and romance budding for several couple intrigue and danger. The forging of 6 new friendships.I felt by the end of the story that they formed a loving family of there own.I enjoyed seeing each and every character grow into there own making them feel cherished and special and prideful and even more confident individuals.

The story had tons of intrigue going on where we learn about each and everyone's past some even connecting with the future and the danger that surrounds them all now.For some many secrets were uncovered in Dawn's past leaving the girl in limbo and truly hurt.I found her character at first to be a little annoying but, when her past secrets are starting to reveal themselves you understand her character much more and understand why she acts they way she does but, little by little she opens up and unwinds and bit making her more of a likeable/loveable character.

I loved it and recommend it to all whether young are old. This is a Young Adult Fantasy Romance.New Debut novel for Ada Adams and I have to say that she did a very good job for her first novel. So looking forward to the rest of the series. We are giving this newest story 5 stars!

My Thoughts

The prologue grabs your attention right from the start, and right away my heart ached for sweet little Avaretta “Ava”. I love a book that grabs you right away and holds you all the way through to the end. Then of course you realize the dishes are still waiting, the laundry hasn't inished drying and oh yeah the family is waiting for dinner – LOL.

Of course what would a book be without a cutie in it and Troy Drake oh my he is all that and a brownie with vanilla ice cream too. Mmmm yeah!!!!! Oh and then there is the snobby girls, I mean you really can’t have a young adult book without those because school just isn’t school without the girls who think they are better then everyone else – enter Jenna Ross. Boy did I want to give her a swift kick or two, maybe stick my foot out as she walks by in the lunch room, let her fall face first into her tray of lunch room spaghetti. LOL

And of course you have to throw in the best friend, one who knows your deepest, darkest secret, one they would take to their grave. Yep that is Brea – and love the name too. :)

You know how you try real hard not to do something. Not to bend to everyone’s wishes or demands. That “One time wont matter” mentality. That is how Ava is when it comes to her special abilities. Very special abilities. She knows she has powers but she doesn’t know to what extent and what she really is, but she does soon find out. But try as she might it always manages to find a way out. Some of the incidences she just has no clue how they happen. I can’t even imagine what she was thinking when these things would happen but it sure did make for some fun and interesting reading.

Oh I almost forgot about the mysterious man, what I wouldn’t give for some strong, dark, handsome man to pin me against a wall and brush his lips against mine – LOL :) :) And he keeps Ava on her toes and guessing who he is.

Ava and her mother are not on good terms. At a very early age her mother leaves Ava with her aunt, she doesn’t want to deal with her daughters abilities, even goes so far as to try and convincer her daughter they are not real. Leaving Ava feeling unwanted and unloved by her mother. Which later comes back on both of them.

I have always loved books about the elements, nature, the powers they hold. Good versus evil that pull to be normal instead of different yet the overwhelming urge to follow ones destiny. This book has all of that along with real life tragedies, battles, love and so much more.

I did want to say the ending was so not what I was expecting, Ava has a big change happen, an epic battle, secrets revealed and more it was fast very fast but very good – but oh the ending left me craving to let the dishes stay dirty, the laundry to stay wet and the family to grumble about being starved and get right into book 2 but alas I took care of my mommy duties. Now onto the next book.
