Echoes: Neo-Victorian Poetry
Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry - Janice T.

Echoes is a lovely collection of rhyming poems, elegant and witty. Most are wonderful, a few need editing (I found typos). I enjoyed this collection a lot and I plan to pick up her second volume, Echoes II: More Neo-Victorian Poetry, soon.

An excerpt from Mr Bleak’s Tomatoes

The land was thin, exhausted, bled,
Where Mr. Bleak’s tomatoes fed
On substances contrived to force
A hastening of Nature’s course.
Globes of sunlight, pipe-fed shower
‘Neath a vaulted plastic bower,
Lavished with a lethal spray
To keep all other life at bay.

Thus did Bleak’s tomatoes grow,
Mile upon mile and row by row.

Suggested Reading: Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry
Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry - Janice T.

If you’re as tired of shallow and pretentious prose as I am, then take a taste of these good old-fashioned, solid, rhyming poems. This lovely little volume will add a touch of class to any library with nearly everything written in iambic pentameter!  And, most important of all, it was written by my mommy.

Janice T is an amazing modern poet who breaths new life into the classic style.  She loves to brag that she’s been writing poetry since she was 11!  The works in this book really have that fermented feeling to them, just like a lovely glass of well aged wine.  You may have also noticed, that one of her poems starts off Clockwork Twist : Waking…

While all of these poems are new and fresh, when I read her work I hear echoes of the great English romantic era poets. Each poem — from the inspiring pace ofTrain of Thought to the clever satire of Emery — is like taking a vacation from the hectic and hyper-trendy world we live in, to bask in an oasis of clarity and thoughtful repose.

Get the paperback or eBook on AmazonCreatspace, or Smathwords.

Give it a quick look at the Goodreads page too!

Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry - Janice T.,Emily Thompson

A few weeks ago, I reviewed "Echoes," a poetry chapbook by Janice T.  I specifically mentioned one of her poems, "1739," as it *appeared* to be about the Rooswijk shipwreck.  I use the word "appeared," because Janice wrote to me and said she'd never heard of it!  Since then, she's done some research and found out just how uncanny a coincidence it was.  Enjoy her blog post: Who is my muse? A Blog post by Janice T.

Evocative "Echoes"
Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry - Janice T.,Emily Thompson

"Echoes" is the first poetry chapbook I've read in a long while.  I had the great pleasure of meeting the poet/author, Janice T., during Clockwork Alchemy 2013.

"Echoes" is an interesting take on poetry; Janice T. uses varying rhyme schemes and styles to tell stories.

Three pieces in the collection really stood out for me.  "Fox" evoked images of a little fennec, lost in the desert and trying to get home.  "1739" is the story of the Rooswijk shipwreck, discovered off the southeast coast of England by an amateur diver in 2004.  There were no known survivors of the event, and Janice T. describes the sailors' fright beautifully.  The third stand-out piece also evoked a shipwreck:  "Drowned Ship of Prey" made me think of the Andrea Gail.

Overall, it's a very good collection.  There are a few editorial issues here and there, but otherwise quite delightful.
