Echoes: Neo-Victorian Poetry
Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry - Janice T.

Echoes is a lovely collection of rhyming poems, elegant and witty. Most are wonderful, a few need editing (I found typos). I enjoyed this collection a lot and I plan to pick up her second volume, Echoes II: More Neo-Victorian Poetry, soon.

An excerpt from Mr Bleak’s Tomatoes

The land was thin, exhausted, bled,
Where Mr. Bleak’s tomatoes fed
On substances contrived to force
A hastening of Nature’s course.
Globes of sunlight, pipe-fed shower
‘Neath a vaulted plastic bower,
Lavished with a lethal spray
To keep all other life at bay.

Thus did Bleak’s tomatoes grow,
Mile upon mile and row by row.

FOGcon 2014!

EVENT: COME TO FOGcon 2014, where steampunk authors Emi Thompson of Clockwork Twist and Janice T of ECHOES will be, this Fri, Sat, and Sunday, in lovely Walnut Creek Marriott (CA), slinging books (and my Dark Victorians!) at SCIFI Fantasy and Speculative Fiction booklovers. Among the Guests of Honour will be the GHOST OF JAMES TIPTREE JR. I kid you not! Boo hoo, I shan't be there to get my picture taken with her spectre. :( THEREFORE, you must go and track her apparition down! :D And buy some books whilst you're at it! Have fun! http://fogcon.org/

From the site:

What is FOGcon?

Friends of the Genre (FOGcon) is a literary-themed San Francisco Bay Area SF/F con in the tradition of Wiscon. Each year we focus on a new theme in speculative fiction and invite Honored Guests ranging from writers to scientists to artists. We build community, exchange ideas, and share our love for the literature of imagination.

2014 bookmark design, 2x6, The Charm School side.
2014 bookmark design, 2x6, the Dark Victorian side.

A big thank you to new BookLikes followers! :) I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do!

Things:

I'm still setting up all things Charm School (am up to digital comic #4, need to work on new pages for Charm School Graphique Vol One--the 'ex-libris', title page, etc), and darn it, but the Dark Victorian short story has not been worked on for 4 days now. :(

I also remembered that March 7-9th is FOGcon: http://fogcon.org/

FOGcon is "Friends of the Genre", a literary science fiction/fantasy convention happening in the San Francisco Bay Area, and James Tiptree Jr is spectral guest of honour this year! :----(

"Why the long face, Elizabeth?" I'm glad you asked. I can't go! There's too much to do, and my gallivanting means nothing gets done (as proven by my events schedule of 2013). To miss out on the ghost of James Tiptree Jr makes me sad however. waaah! :-(

But my good friends and steampunk writers, Emily Thompson (Clockwork Twist series), and Janice T. (Echoes: Neo-Victorian Poetry), will be there and are kind enough to exhibit my books alongside theirs! Thank you, ladies! ^_^

I was so distracted by the ghost of James Tiptree Jr I forgot to say: I also recalled that I needed to make new promo freebies for FOGcon, especially with Charm School relaunching. Thus the 2x6 bookmark designs you see here. One bookmark, two franchises. ;) Everything seems legible and spelt correctly (I hope), and the batch order is now in.

More later, as there are several projects going---including the photoshoot for the new Dark Victorian covers (have I mentioned this already?). I will do a blog post about it.

all the best, ~eee ^v^

Waking - Emily Thompson
Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry - Janice T.
The Dark Victorian: Bones (Volume 2) - Elizabeth Watasin
The Dark Victorian: Risen Volume One - Elizabeth Watasin
Emi Thompson, Janice T, and myself, at APE 2013!
Our helpful APE event map!

"APE, the Alternative Press Expo, returns to the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco the weekend of October 12 and 13, 2013."

AND Clockwork Twist by Emi Thompson, The Dark Victorian series by (me!) Elizabeth Watasin, and ECHOES by Janice T., will be there!

At Table 218, in the Mezzanine! Come up, because we are offering STeampunk bundled specials and freebies. < < < !!!

Confession: I won't be there due to foot recovery. APE looks to be a very busy show (having grown over the years), and it does take lots of stamina and foot traveling and standing. So I must thank my table compatriots for putting my books out and slinging them at you! Please WELCOME Janice and Emi to their first Alternative Press Expo. :-0 And help them out by pointing peeps their way, because we've lots of steampunk and neo-Victorian offerings to share!

meanWHILE: The lovely Kate Danley will be at Big Orange Book Festival this Fri, Sat, and Sunday with her Maggie MacKay, Magical Tracker series and more!

My good friend and fellow indy comics creator Jimmie Robinson will be at New York Comic-Con, also this weekend, as well as friends Curls Studio! (do I know their table/booth locations? I've forgotten!!!).

I've more friends you can see at APE, like BAND (the Comic book!), whose table # I don't know yet, and Bruce Simon and Mary Fleener of underground and indy comics fame, whose table # I also don't know! (terribly efficient of me!).

Myself, I'll be home Writing. Why not, someone has to do it. :D

Suggested Reading: Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry
Echoes, Neo-Victorian Poetry - Janice T.

If you’re as tired of shallow and pretentious prose as I am, then take a taste of these good old-fashioned, solid, rhyming poems. This lovely little volume will add a touch of class to any library with nearly everything written in iambic pentameter!  And, most important of all, it was written by my mommy.

Janice T is an amazing modern poet who breaths new life into the classic style.  She loves to brag that she’s been writing poetry since she was 11!  The works in this book really have that fermented feeling to them, just like a lovely glass of well aged wine.  You may have also noticed, that one of her poems starts off Clockwork Twist : Waking…

While all of these poems are new and fresh, when I read her work I hear echoes of the great English romantic era poets. Each poem — from the inspiring pace ofTrain of Thought to the clever satire of Emery — is like taking a vacation from the hectic and hyper-trendy world we live in, to bask in an oasis of clarity and thoughtful repose.

Get the paperback or eBook on AmazonCreatspace, or Smathwords.

Give it a quick look at the Goodreads page too!
