Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up
Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up - Derek Charm,Jeremy Whitley,Sean E. Williams

I read another book in this series last year: Super Secret Crisis War. And since the Powerpuff Girls always were my favourite Cartoon Network series, I was glad to see they made a sequel.

I enjoyed this story even more (I always like the nostalgic feeling I get from reading it, it's a trip down memory lane for me) but the story in this one was more coherent and there was a better explanation for there being different universes with different drawing styles. All the favourite characters make their appearances but the focus lays on the Powerpuff Girls and Dexter and his sister.

I would like to read more of their joint adventures!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Powerpuff Girls: Super Smash-Up - Derek Charm,Jeremy Whitley,Sean E. Williams

Received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

This was a great and fun book, and it is kind of a sequel to the Super Secret Crisis War. You can read them separately, but you might be confused as to how the girls know Dexter, and what happened that he granted them a tour through his laboratory (something he doesn't do for just everyone).

Most of the book took place in Townsville, but you can also find the girls on their quest to find DeeDee in the Cow & Chicken world, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends world, Courage the Cowardly Dog world and various others, there are also other worlds that we don't visit, but which we do see pop up. While the story seems a bit random at times, it is all connected to one thing: DeeDee's rampage and that thanks to her the Dimensions are shifting. Though the later part also focusses on something different, which was nice. I was thinking it would end when they found DeeDee, but there is a little twist (well... twist? I think most can see it coming) at the end. Really appreciated, especially considering this story mostly took place in Townsville.

Most of the book was a big nostalgia trip, however I never really cared about Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and I don't know anything about that camp (not sure what the name was) world. But for most I was delighted to see old characters come to life again. Only on the one hand, I was delighted to see all these worlds, but on the other hand, I would have liked to see Bravo or the Eds.
My favourite world? Courage! I loved that cartoon (even though it was highly weird) and I was happy to see Courage being Courage again. Scared about everything (and with good reason) as always.

The story was really fun and I was just cheering for the girls (and Dexter and the Professor) to find DeeDee. It was hilarious to see everyone's reaction to the girls, especially since they fly/float and generally people don't just do that.

The art is really colourful and fun, and it really captures the characters as I know them. I don't know the illustrators (most sites just seem to list Various), but they did a great job.

I do hope we will get another book in this "series", since I just love all the cross-overs that are happening in this series. Also I am really delighted that this one was way better than the first one, I was kind of worried I would also not like this one, but thankfully, this one was actually quite good.

I would recommend this one to people, kids will like it, and I am sure adults like me will love it for the nostalgia it brings.

Powerpuff Girls Vol 1
Powerpuff Girls, Vol. 1 - Troy Little

I am a big fan of The Powerpuff Girls.  Even though they do kick butt, I think it's a good cartoon for kids to watch because they are always helping people, fighting against evil ... and they learn their lessons (unlike what happens on a lot of cartoons these days).  Their graphic novels/comic books are no different.

Villains and Heroes working together?!?!  How can you get any better than that?!?!

I had a lot of fun reading this story and the kids I shared it with thought it was great too.  Definitely a good read with some awesome artwork.  I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Note: I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Powerpuff Girls Volume 1 - Troy Little

Received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Rating:4.5 stars.

I was so excited that I could read this little comic. I absolutely love the Powerpuff girls series. I watched the cartoons, read various fancomics and also seen the anime. So I think you all can imagine just how excited I was!

This was all so nostalgic. :)

The girls are all back, this time more Mojo-Jojo trouble, though trouble... more like nothing new. Mojo decides to go good and become normal again. Of course a certain scary villain hears all about this and decides to make all the villains good for now. Nobody suspects a thing, well nobody? One person does, Buttercup.

I loved that the villains were good for once, it was fun to see them do normal stuff instead of being criminal, they all had jobs that just fitted them right (Sedusa being a hairdresser? Perfect! Fuzzy selling property? Even more perfect). I also loved to see them fight alongside of the girls.

Of course I was really happy to see the girls again. See them being good sisters, but of course see them bicker at times too. And I loved how they kept saving the day just in time for bedtime. My favourite girl in this story would be Buttercup. Normally it would alternate between Bubbles or Buttercup. Sorry I just don't like Blossom that much, find her too bossy and a few other things.

The story itself was fun to read. I really enjoyed it. And I could really imagine the narrator's voice during the times you got his text balloons. :)

What kept me from rating this 5 stars? Well the fact that it had that very annoying watermark smack-dab in the middle of the pages. Not one page, oh no. Every page! At times it made the text under it hard to read, and not only that, it just distracted me from the comic. Something you don't want. Nice and all that you make a watermark, but keep it at one page, not all of them. I think people got the message they shouldn't distribute it and blah blah blah.

Oh my that ending. I can't wait for more Powerpuff Girls comics!

But all in all, I would recommend this book to everyone. If you like the Powerpuff Girls then really you should read this!

The Powerpuff Girls
Powerpuff Girls Volume 1 - Troy Little

I received an ARC via Netgalley from IDW Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

I saw the Powerpuff Girls a few times on my dashboard today, and it brought back a lot of memories. I LOVED the Powerpuff Girls when I was a kid, to the level that I collected everything that had to do with them (They used to have a lot of school stuff etc), held an exhibition on the Powerpuff Girls (showing off all cool things I collected) and wrote at least one play an one story about them.

And then, without any warning, Cartoon Network stopped broadcasting in the Netherlands on normal television, and I had to do without. It seemed like cold turkey rehab. You can feel, there still a childhood trauma here ( =) ). Anyway, I was so surprised to see them again, that I thought immediately 'I need to read this.' And that is how it happened.

It was such an enjoyable read, mostly because of sentimental reasons. Everything was just like I remembered and we get to see all the bad guys again! Mojo Jojo has always been one of my favourite villains. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who was once a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, because I'm sure you will enjoy this!
