Above and Beyond by Kathryn Shay is fairly quick read, a great choice for those that have limited time for reading. Ms Shay has delivered a well-written book. Kudos to Ms Shay for her amazing cast of characters. Nick is Special Agent in Charge of the President’s protection. Isabelle is the President’s sister that has been receiving threats. Their story is loaded with drama, suspense, action, humor and spice. This book grabbed me on page one and didn’t turn me loose until the end. I enjoyed reading Above And Beyond and look forward to my next book by Kathryn Shay. Above And Beyond is book 1 of the To Serve And Protect Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I absolutly loved this author's Mage of Mars series.
This one - not so much.
It felt quite unoriginal and I skimmed a lot.
It never really got me pulled into the story.
PS: Another little niggle is the way the (unnecessary) emphasize is on US, explained with how many personnel the Agency has worldwide. If Canada is to bow down before US because they have a tenth of the US population, fine. But mentioning that Europe doesn't have much troops either is simply ludicrous.
A quick comparison in population, while also keeping in mind that there are 25+ languages spoken in Europe which adds complexity:
US: 320+ Million people
EU: 510+ Million people
Notice something?
Yeah, me too.
Super fun and sexy romp! Despite being a short read it still managed to include laugh out moments, a little suspense, and well-depicted characters. It’s part of a series but it can be read as a stand alone. Charlie and Claire have smoking chemistry from the moment they meet but it doesn’t feel forced (even though it’s almost instant). I normally don’t gush this much about books but this is one of those that makes you want to know more of what's to come.
*** I received this book from the author at no cost to me and I volunteered to read it; this is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.***
