Review: Marked by the Vampire
Marked By The Vampire - Cynthia Eden

I received a copy from Netgalley.

An enjoyable fun paranormal romance. Psychologist Olivia is sent to paranormal prison Purgatory to learn what makers killer vampires and werewolves tick. Unfortunately something goes hideously wrong and all hell breaks loose. And there's a really hot vampire there who's one of the good guys. A good, twisty turny plot full of vampires vs werewolves and Dr Olivia has a mysterious power of her own that everyone wants to identify. All the while she's having a hot romance with a hot vampire.

I didn't really buy the chemistry that was supposed to make her and the vampire totally mad for each other, but the sex scenes were hot, and the story was well written and the plot twisty and unpredictable. The plot did get a little silly towards the end, so many people with hidden secrets and agendas. Though I did like the turn out of Olivia's special powers. Not something I've seen before.

It was a good novel and a fun read for any lover of paranormal romance.

I enjoyed it.

Thank you Netgalley and Season Press for approving my request to view the title.

Ascension - Caris Roane

This is one of the best vampire romances I have read in ages.

When I first started my initial thoughts were this was going to be a Black Dagger Brotherhood ripoff. And as much as I love Blackdagger boys, these warriors were ten times more sexy. The main male character's general attitude and his pure brute strength and sensuality were outstanding.

The  plot was densely woven with equal parts steaming romance, fast paced action, plenty of angst and a good helping of humor. Very intricate world building and utterly fantastic character development. You really get to know these characters and feel as they get used to each other.

A fantastic gripping novel which I loved from start to finish.

A Vampire's Promise - Carla Susan Smith

I recieved a copy from Netgalley.

An enjoyable paranormal a romance. Has all the elements of a paranormal romance that I enjoy, a normal girl gets swept off her feet by a gorgeous figure and into a world of paranormal stuff she doesn't know existed. Well written and intruiging, some exceptionally hot sex scenes.

I had a few issues with the main character, Rowan, I didn't like her much really, her personality was a little....grating and...something about her rubbed me the wrong way. At least to her credit she wasn't a stupid heroine, she had a brain in her head and was quite smart. But something about her still...just...didn't work for me.

However, the story was good enough that I kept reading. The plot was extremely predictable but as with my issue with the main character, the writing and story telling was good enough to keep me interested. The romance was well developed and deliciously sensual.

I would have liked to have seen the paranormal element introduced a little sooner than right at the end only to be left with a big cliffhanger. The were a few original elements written into the story that I've not come across before in a vampire based paranormal romance which were intruiging.

Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for approving my request to view this title.

Reading progress update: I've finished.
Kiss of Death - Rachel Caine

Just some random highlights until I post full review:

“Claire?” “Yes?” “You staked a vampire with a number two pencil.”

“I didn’t actually check the number.”

WELCOME TO MORGANVILLE. YOU’LL NEVER WANT TO LEAVE. So, you’re new to Morganville. Welcome, new resident! There are only a few important rules you need to know to feel comfortable in our quiet little town: • Obey the speed limits. • Don’t litter. • Whatever you do, don’t get on the bad side of the vampires. Yeah, we said vampires. Deal with it.

Welcome to Morganville. You’ll never want to leave. And even if you do ... well, you can’t. Sorry about that.

Creepy, she could fight. Pink underwear ... apparently not.

“Well, they can qualify as supervillains. But only if they have a secret underground base. Wait—you’ve got a mad scientist for a boss, and a lab—”

“Seriously?” she yelled. “‘The Macarena’?” “It’s war,” he yelled back. “I had to bring out the heavy artillery. Next up, Barry Manilow!”

“You know it’s desperate,” she said. “Shane is going to the library.

Fade Out: The Morganville Vampires - Rachel Caine

Finished; not ready to write a full review.

And some quotes I highlighted:

She hadn’t meant to become Igor to Myrnin’s Frankenstein, but she supposed at least it was a paying, steady job.

while—today was, in Myrnin’s words from his note, the “grand reopening.” Although how you had a grand reopening of a hidden lair beneath a tumbledown shack, Claire had no idea. Was there cake?

“Ask him where he got the boots.” “You ask.” Personally, Claire wanted the vampire bunny slippers.

I learned a new word: alembics which per Wikipedia:
