Review: Marked by the Vampire
Marked By The Vampire - Cynthia Eden

I received a copy from Netgalley.

An enjoyable fun paranormal romance. Psychologist Olivia is sent to paranormal prison Purgatory to learn what makers killer vampires and werewolves tick. Unfortunately something goes hideously wrong and all hell breaks loose. And there's a really hot vampire there who's one of the good guys. A good, twisty turny plot full of vampires vs werewolves and Dr Olivia has a mysterious power of her own that everyone wants to identify. All the while she's having a hot romance with a hot vampire.

I didn't really buy the chemistry that was supposed to make her and the vampire totally mad for each other, but the sex scenes were hot, and the story was well written and the plot twisty and unpredictable. The plot did get a little silly towards the end, so many people with hidden secrets and agendas. Though I did like the turn out of Olivia's special powers. Not something I've seen before.

It was a good novel and a fun read for any lover of paranormal romance.

I enjoyed it.

Thank you Netgalley and Season Press for approving my request to view the title.

Ascension - Caris Roane

This is one of the best vampire romances I have read in ages.

When I first started my initial thoughts were this was going to be a Black Dagger Brotherhood ripoff. And as much as I love Blackdagger boys, these warriors were ten times more sexy. The main male character's general attitude and his pure brute strength and sensuality were outstanding.

The  plot was densely woven with equal parts steaming romance, fast paced action, plenty of angst and a good helping of humor. Very intricate world building and utterly fantastic character development. You really get to know these characters and feel as they get used to each other.

A fantastic gripping novel which I loved from start to finish.

A Vampire's Promise - Carla Susan Smith

I recieved a copy from Netgalley.

An enjoyable paranormal a romance. Has all the elements of a paranormal romance that I enjoy, a normal girl gets swept off her feet by a gorgeous figure and into a world of paranormal stuff she doesn't know existed. Well written and intruiging, some exceptionally hot sex scenes.

I had a few issues with the main character, Rowan, I didn't like her much really, her personality was a little....grating and...something about her rubbed me the wrong way. At least to her credit she wasn't a stupid heroine, she had a brain in her head and was quite smart. But something about her still...just...didn't work for me.

However, the story was good enough that I kept reading. The plot was extremely predictable but as with my issue with the main character, the writing and story telling was good enough to keep me interested. The romance was well developed and deliciously sensual.

I would have liked to have seen the paranormal element introduced a little sooner than right at the end only to be left with a big cliffhanger. The were a few original elements written into the story that I've not come across before in a vampire based paranormal romance which were intruiging.

Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for approving my request to view this title.

City of Fallen Angels (Mortal Instruments, #4) - Cassandra Clare

I loved this one. One thing I particularly liked was seeing other character character view points and not just focusing on the Jace/Clary thing. I liked seeing more of Simon dealing with the vampire thing, while he is not my favourite character in the series, I still find it interesting. I also liked seeing the familiarity of things introduced in the first three books on how the Shadowhunters work and a new story line come through. While this was wrapped up, a great cliffhanger leading onto the next book. With great writing and some interesting character development, another fanatic instalment.

Completed the book I wanted to read for Clare a Thon challenge. Also crossing off a square for Book Bingo - Written by a Woman.

Snow White and the Vampire - Marina Myles

I received a copy from Netgalley.

I loved the first book in the Cursed Princes series, and now finished the second book I actually love the second book even more. At first I was starting to wonder where the Snow White retelling comes in. But as soon as the story gets going, it weaves itself brilliantly into the narrative.

Dimitri was a swoon worthy hero, Alba was a fantastic strong female lead. Both characters complimented each other well, their relationship was worked on through the novel, their chemistry was amazing, sizzling. The relationship as the plot advanced was hard work so when they were together....ooh, boy was it ever hot!

The writing was top notch, and the historical elements weaved into the plot worked surprisingly well, the London setting (which admittedly isn't something I've been a fan of in the past, wanting English paranormal romances in parts of the UK other than London or Scotland) either way, mixed in with Jack The Ripper, it was pretty damn absorbing.

Who would have guessed you could mix Jack the Ripper in with a vampire paranormal romance and a Snow White retelling? It may sound like a lot going on, but the way the story came together worked really well.

Adding into that a gypsy curse and an Egyptian one. The threads came together beautifully and vividly. Mixed in with some emotional angst I was rooting for Dimitri and Alba to overcome their obstacles so they could be together after some steamy nearly but not quite encounters.

A good cast of supporting characters as well, including Alba's stepmother in the wicked queen role and a few spanners thrown into the Dimitri/Alba relationship - including a beautiful femme fatal vampire with links to Dimitri's past as another good twist in the plot.

All in all a fantastic book. Bring on the next one!
