Highly recommended.
His & Hers - Alice Feeney Wow, I have just finished this book, it was brilliant. Both the book and the narration had me progressively more and more glued to the story as I got increasingly involved in events. Anna is a news correspondent who has risen through the ranks of reporters to the job of reading the lunch time news bulletin on the BBC. It's job she loves and she puts her heart and soul into it, hiding away from a much less happy personal life. Her ex-husband, DCI Jack Harper, is called to investigate a murder in sleepy Blackdown and Anna becomes involved when her dream job unexpectedly goes back to its previous incumbent and Anna finds herself back as a reporter. The narrative follows the interactions between this estranged couple, while simultaneously twisting and turning around the mystery they are both trying to unravel. And twisting and turning it certainly does, until we end up suspecting everyone and no-one seems completely innocent.. As an audiobook we were treated to a male narrator, the wonderful Richard Armitage, to narrate Jack's voice, and Stephanie Racine, who did and excellent job as Anna. There is also a distorted voice representing the killer. All in all I highly recommend this book as an audio and I'm definitely going to go back and investigate the author's earlier work.

HIS & HERS BY: ALICE FEENEY
His & Hers - Alice Feeney

One thing I can say 100% this book kept me guessing until the very end! I really enjoyed the shifting narrators, even though they were rather unlikable at times. This story is full of very flawed people but that was part of the macabre charm to this particular novel. This ended up being a lot darker than I initially anticipated but the twists and turns and fast pace kept me flying through the pages. I can't say I was real invested in the characters as they could be hard to root for but I was definitely way into solving this mystery. Every time I thought I had it figured out something or someone came along and changed the game. The flashes of past intermixed with the present to form the full picture from varying perspectives was really great. I quite liked the addition of the killer's POV along with Anna and Jack's. I can say there is a few different scenarios that will be triggering for some readers so be aware that this book can be disturbing and it isn't for the faint of heart. All in all a solid suspense/mystery for me and I definitely want to check out more from this author.

I received an arc of this book from Flatiron Books and this is my honest review.

Sometimes I Lie
Sometimes I Lie - Alice Feeney

I ordered this book over an online used book store and when I got the confirmation mail, the first thing I read was this:

Sometimes I Lie: A psychological thriller with a killer twist you´ll never forget

My immediate reaction upon reading this was:

[Source]

The book starts of with Amber, who is in coma, can hear anything that goes on around her and who tells the reader right from the get go that she sometimes lie. Put this together with the killer twist and you will get one of the most contrived books out there.

There is so much random stuff going on in this novel, which just doesn´t make a whole lot of sense. Because how much of this stuff can possibly happen to one person. We got marital problems, work place problems, family problems, OCD, a mental ex-boyfriend, a mental and slightly murderous, diary-writing child and everything is shoe-horned into one narrative solely for the purpose of not only having one twist, but multiple twists.

What really pisses me off about this book, though, is the fact that we are told from the very first page that you cannot trust Amber. So I can´t even call out the author on the fact that a whole lot of this novel doesn´t make any kind of sense, simply because Amber is an unreliable narrator and how can I be sure that she is telling the truth. Putting an unreliable narrator as as a sort of disclaimer at the beginning of the novel - wow, that is sloppy writing in my opinion.

At the end of the book there were some "Reading group suggestions", which gave me good laugh. They actually tried to give this book more depth than it actually has by asking some ridiculous questions. This book doesn´t have any depth at all, it´s the authors blatant attempt to jump on the "Gone Girl", "The Girl on the Train" and "The Woman in the Window" bandwagon and to milk the cash cow for a little bit.

This was such a hot mess of a book. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it was a very fast read.
