Reading progress update: I've read 80 out of 348 pages.
Love in the Time of Cholera - Gabriel García Márquez,Edith Grossman

Whenever I read another of his books, It's like I rediscover the weird ways he he uses words and how damn good the writing paints things in your head. I don't know how well that's is captured in translation though. Like:

Which are two bits from the same page.

Also, I love how the daily made grandiose resonates with our family legacy stories. I mean, the little tortures that culminate in an absent bar of soap that almost terminates a marriage of 30 years? A man holding a torch for 50? Dying for a parrot? Keeping an affair secret for decades just because? It hits something close to funny, like there is an implausible and grotesque air to them, but in the end you laugh because goodness, did the elders of your family have stories to share in lazy afternoons.

Halloween Bingo: I think I found the book for my Shifters square
The Wolf's Hour - Robert R. McCammon

I was going to read Fool Moon by Butcher, but it's the second in a series and I don't have time to read the first one before Bingo time (though I really do want to read that series soon!).

So I went looking through Goodreads Listopia, and it was hard to find something that was not part of a series. Apparently, standalone books are hard to find these days!

This one looks great, though. It's the first in a series, which I can live with, and is not the typical paranormal romance (I do like that genre, but there's a lot of saturation in that field and I wanted something different).

Lastly, I see a couple of friends here have read and liked it, which is a great reason to pick it up.

Book list for Halloween Bingo

I've chosen 14 books for far. I'm not sure I can read any more in two months, especially as my degree starts in October. You can see my choices on my blog.

My called and read graphic for the Bingo card.

A few more quilt pictures

I was waiting until Char got her hands on it to post any pictures. Here's a few more!

It's about 60 by 60 inches, give or take.

It's backed in a soft and cozy black & white flannel plaid. I machine quilted it with black thread.

My helper, Jonesy, gave his full approval! He especially admired the print with the black cats in orange party hats. The prints are mostly black, white, gray and orange, with pops of purple and green. And, Char, I don't know if you've noticed, yet - but one of the text prints was designed on Spoonflower, and is printed with last year's Halloween bingo categories! ;)
