After Alice was one of those books that had a lot of promise but just didn't quite deliver. I felt so on the fence about this book that I actually did something out of the ordinary...I read other people's reviews. The donsensus of those reviews was that there were a lot of storylines that were begun and then didn't really go anywhere. I have to agree. The premise was basically a look at the world that Lewis Carroll created in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland but from another perspective. The journey through Ada's eyes, however, was basically a rehashing of the original tale. We got tantalizing glimpses into the character of Ada (briefly mentioned as a school friend of Alice) who is stigmatized because of a disability but it never really goes anywhere. The story isn't just focused on her though. In the world of 1800s England, Lydia who is Alice's older sister is having her own difficulties. And then Charles Darwin shows up with a young man and the runaway slave that he's harboring. Did I mention that there are a lot of storylines that are not fully developed? I have to echo the wish of one reviewer that lamented that the issue of gender inequality and the culture of the time period wasn't a bigger theme. (That's a book I'd like to read so if you have any recommendations please comment below!) I'm really unsure of my lasting impression other than I wouldn't buy it and I'm not much inclined to reading anything else by this author. :-/

Because I'm *such* a good student, I decided to put off writing my last paper of grad school (aka LAST PAPER EVER!!!) by re-reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I know I've read this before, but I don't remember when, and I also remember that I wasn't very fond of it. I felt that it was just way too bizarre and honestly I think I just didn't get the humor in it. This time around, I'm loving it. To make myself feel less guilty about reading this when I really should be getting schoolwork done, I read it aloud to the baby while I'm nursing her. Way to multitask, right?!

... well, now I guess I should get this paper written. After all, the sooner I write it, the sooner this will all be over! Wish me luck!

It's a quite mad book. It's very imaginative and random but sometimes it breaks off with some nice words like:

"I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then."

The teaparty chapter was really funny aswell.

So.. I guess this was one of the worst reading month I have had in months.. I've only read 4 books and 2 of them were re-reads. I know.. it's still better than nothing but yea. These are the books I've read:

- Angels and Demons by Dan Brown review 

- Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (re-read)

- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë (re-read)

I had to read Alice + Jane for school and Jane Eyre took me literally a month to read. It was so ridiculous but I think it took me so long because I had to make a summary of it and mark things. It's still stupid to think of the fact I've only read 4 books.. but I had other reasons as well. One of them was that I had exams so I had lots of study to do and the other thing was Gilmore Girls. I seriously watched more than 3 season of it in one month and now I've seen every single episode. It was so much fun watching it! It's so sad the series is over, I wish there were more seasons of it, but yea. This month I really want to read more though and I have a one week break so I guess that's possible as well!
