Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story
Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story - C. David Heymann The Kennedys have been a guilty pleasure of mine since I was 13. I've read so many books that most are just a rehash of what I already know. This one was filled with a lot of info I did not know probably because I never read about Jackie and Bobby other than just their relationship as in laws. This was well written and very interesting. I really like that it wasn't phone book size like most historical non fiction!

Bobby and Jackie
Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story - C. David Heymann

Found this book in the library and decided to borrow it since I have a thing for the Kennedys and most of all RFK. I didn't have high expectations on the book. It looks a bit sordid and it felt a bit sordid to read. Did Jackie and Bobby have an affair? Many people seem to think that they did. It was like a secret everyone knew but no one spoke about in the public. Nowadays it would be impossible to keep an affair like that a secret, but in the 60s it was probably a lot easier.

In a way a feel sorry for Jackie, I don't think many people knew her. Men wanted to sleep with her, women wanted to be her and she is often portrayed as greedy ambitious woman, very much so in this book. And perhaps she was precisely so. Who knows?

Perhaps she and Bobby had an affair. Perhaps he was the love of her life. It's easy to write a book about two people that are both dead, since they can't confirm or deny anything.

Yes, it felt sometimes like I read gossip, but since I'm interested in the Kennedys was it also interesting to read about the years after JFK's dead until RFK's death and Jackie's life after with Onassis and her last years. It's not a thick book, and much of the book was about affairs between the Kennedys and other women and Jackie's affairs. But the red thread was Jackie and Bobby relationship and I do think they cared really much for each other and if they had an affair? Well who knows? The people in the book seem to think so...

Reading progress update: I've read 114 out of 253 pages.
Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story - C. David Heymann

Everybody is sleeping with everybody...the Lewinsky scandal seems pretty harmless, at least Bill Clinton didn't have orgies in the White House...well as far a we know...

I wonder if anyone would have wanted to sleep with Onassis if he weren't rich...I just look at pictures of him and shudder...

Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story - C. David Heymann This is another one that deserves more than 3 stars, but it's not quite a 4 star book. It was an interesting memoir, that's for sure. I obviously did not experience these events while they were happening, so I really had no idea that this kind of activity was going on. It seems to me that it was a crazy time in which to live. Everyone was so jaded, stuck in their roles due to fame and religion. It shines such a different light on the Kennedy family. Jackie and Bobby really must have had something if you can believe everything you read. Sad that she lost both men in her life in the same way. Such a tragic life for everyone.
